The shroud was damaged in a fire a few centuries ago. Part of it was repaired using a different material than the original. When they did the carbon dating, they analysed by mistake the part of the shroud that was repaired. This was proved by re-analysing one of the samples from the original carbon testing. One of the scientists involved in that test intended to publish a book admitting that the carbon dating was improperly done, but died before doing so. I saw this on a Discovery Channel program a year or so ago. Just google it, I'm sure you'll find all the details. I hope they do a definitive test to silence the non-believers.

After close examination I believe it is the burial shroud of Frank Zappa. Since we can prove beyond reasonable doubt that Mr. Zappa actually existed it is at least as likely an explanation as one steeped in mythology.

The shroud's supposed "authenticity", while an interesting story, is nonetheless irrelevant.

As are the supposed accounts of walking on water, healing the sick, raising the dead, calming storms, etc.

All of this was simple propaganda, meant to lend some kind of supernatural ability that would convince potential followers to give their energies to the cause.

And the cause? Power. The more followers, the more power. Simple as that, nothing more, nothing less.

So mush money, and so many words are wasted by so-called "Christians" trying to use accounts of prodigious feats of "magic" in an effort to justify their proselytizing, that the main knowledge that was contained in the accounts of his life go totally ignored.

I have yet to see an actual "christian" leader (or any religious leader, for that matter) actually living by the words of their respective deities.

Preaching a word that does not actually live inside one is the height of hypocrisy, and I hope that the saying about the "millstone around the neck..." etc., would somehow manifest towards the hypocrites for the entire world to see.

But then again, I am an atheist. I don't have to believe in a deity to know the wisdom in the accounts of the preachings, sayings, and conversations of the Aramaic Nazarene Isa bin Yusuf, better known to the ethnocentric western revisionists as Jesus.

I don't even have to believe in him to appreciate the wisdom in that which is ascribed to him.

As I recall, there was some thought the tested threads were from a repaired area. Thus, they are dated to the time of repair.

Really CBS on my religious holiday you are going to show the shroud of turin and some "expert" who is basically saying that the resurrection of Jesus Christ my savior didnt happen. Wow Nice job, and PR_in_Alabama if you believe that religion is used to manipulate the masses, go to china, better yet North Korea cause they share the same view as you im sure youd love Bowing to a picture of Kim Jung Un. Im dissapointed CBS and this is just rediculous to show on a Christian Holiday.
Sincerely yours,
One pissed off viewer

This phenomenon is most likely the result of gases released from a dead body reacting with the chemicals within the cloth and causing discoloration. Photograghy 101.

Your article fails to mention that the carbon dating was only done on a small corner piece of the cloth which was proven to have been REPAIRED & REWOVEN during the middle ages! Since the carbon dating procedure results in complete destruction of the material the Catholic church has never permitted the main part of the cloth to be tested.

Here's an interesting theory, believe it or not: Jesus's resurrection was not unlike our resurrection upon survival after death. Just like our own, Jesus's resurrection had nothing to do with his physical body. His body was missing from the sepulcher because it was rapidly decomposed by order of celestial spirits (who did not want the body of the incarnated creator of our universe to decay slowly over time). If the shroud is the genuine burial cloth, it could be the imprint was caused by this accelerated decomposition process.

Fabric from 1300 was NOT present in Jesus' tomb.

Celebrate the fact the He is Risen.

Quit making up phony stuff to distract us.

Jesus wouldn't care whether a cloth showed his image or not. His message is what was important. Of course, big business religions find it hard to profit simply from his message.
