This country's economic problems go way beyond politics. I am going to make a statement- When workers do well, businesses do well. I don't think many people would argue with that. Businesses depend on consumers, consumers are people with money to spend, and people with money to spend generally are people with jobs. Conversely, for the economy to function, the flip side of that has to be true as well- When businesses do well, workers do well. There is where the economy is broken, for when businesses do well, it's not workers but investors who do well. Struggling and healthy companies both reduce their workforces as much as possible and/or send jobs to China or Mexico in order to increase investor's ROI. We as a country have abandoned rewarding hard work in order to reward gambling. As long as businesses refuse to recognize that it is their responsibility to create consumers, and not just reward investors, expect the economy to continue to flounder and the middle class to shrink.

I have always enjoyed Sunday Morning. Today we have a segment on the poor in the Atlanta area, and how some of these people don't know where their next meal is coming from. Then we have a segment on someone spending almost $300 for meal. We have the extreme rich and the middle/poor class in this country. Our country is in trouble.

This picture and story makes me sick. Socialist Obama over the last several months has made ignorant comments like the economy is heading in the right direction or things look positve...... The only thing more ignorant than this idiot are the ignorant Liberals who want to re-elect him. I know Liberals, it's Bush's fault. Almost three years into Socialist Obama's administration and this idiot isn't responsible for anything. If you idiots put him back in office, you deserve what you get. I live in South Carolina where there are thousands of Liberals who are so poor that their mailbox is worth more than their house. Yes, I'm a Republican but situations like this make me sick regardless of which party they belong to. Liberals, pull real hard until you hear a loud pop.

Why do people get pregnant without any means to provide for the child & of course the rest of us get to pay for all the medical expenses for both mother & child ??? There are many low wage jobs that anyone can get without any experience to help themselves, there are jobs but you might have to travel outside of your hometown to get them. Too bad all the church cult clubs don't use their billions to provide for the people instead of building worthless gold temples & shopping malls & buying art to display in their mansions. Oh, I forgot, in order to get any help you have join their clubs & pay them to be brainwashed!!!

Without a doubt this is America's biggest shame and one that really is so unnecessary!

While our "leaders" remain "fat and sassy," dawdling over how to get our country back on track, our people back in jobs, entire families are being devastated.

It appears that those in Washington, D.C., essentially believe we can't afford to adequately address the issue of poverty among so many millions of Americans. In truth, we can't afford NOT to address the issue!

Wake up, America, before it's too late!

I'm going to act like a republican now......

Maybe these lazy people should get off their ***** and get a job...

Wait you say they are trying or holding multiple jobs and still struggling...

Well then they should only blame themselves for their situation... Why should we help.

Oh, and one more thing, where is the birth certificate..... teleprompter.... Socialism, death panels, we'll use 2nd amendment rights if ewe have to.... abortion, more tax breaks for the wealthy, deficits don't matter, regulations are bad... etc..... etc..... etc.....

republicans = BOOOOOOOOOO HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

How does a society survive with 15% on welfare and 9% unemployed? The great depression had a rate of 25%. We are close to that number now - 24%. Who is fighting for these people? Who really cares?

I have no doubt that there is hunger in America, but this was an odd way of putting it on display. Of everyone shown and interviewed, either picking up food at the food bank, being served a meal, or telling their story -- everyone was 20 to 50 lbs. overweight -- give me a break.

I don't understand why these people would even consider voting for Obama or the Democrats. I'm going to retire at the end of the year. My biggest concern is our leaders in Washington are going to destroy the buying power of the dollar for political reasons and their reelection. Obama continues to say one thing about jobs and does another. The decison to put off the Keystone oil pipeline was an attempt to please his environmentalist constituency and was not made for the good of the country. We don't drill even though we have plenty of gas and oil in this country. We put roadblocks in front of businesses, and their is a great deal of uncertainty in the country. We elect our leaders to lead; Obama defers or makes decisions to enhance his political chances. The good people of Forsyth County will be doing themselves and the nation a favor by voting to remove Obama in 2012.

the food banks have become useless. no meat, no rice, no potatoes, no sugar, no jam, just cans of applesauce, cans of beans, and inedible junk. not worth the bother. 3/5 meals at the soup kitchen are inedible. not worth the bother. foodstamps are $200/month, doesn't cover a month when red meat is $6/lb and bread $3/loaf. but even then, earn more than $1174 a month, you get zero on foodstamps. who can live on $1174 a month, when rent is $700, and gasoline is $3.50 a gallon? i commute 65 miles to work - costs $300 in gasoline a month, and car repairs and insurance are least as much. Rent $700, car $600, electricity $100, heat $100. that's $1500 in expenses for the working poor, before food. i earn $1300, before taxes, not eligible for food stamps. so I am $200 short before I buy food or pay the government.
