What Makes Sundays So Special? Charles Osgood Takes an In-Depth Look
- Come on, people; lighten-up! CBS Sunday Morning has from its inception been a delightful way to see our world and many of its peoples. Charles Osgood has been as wonderful a host as Charles Kuralt. It is journalism at its very best; informative, and entertaining. A great way to start a Sunday! THANK YOU! Let%u2019s go for another 30! I am 74, but I plan to be watching your 60th! And all in between!

- If we need a day for play and fun then Sunday is fine. But if we are truly interested in obeying God''s Law and wish to please Him, then we will keep the 4th commandment as it is fully written, not just the short version of it. God says to keep the 7th day. (a bit of history can prove to anyone that this is, has been, and always will be, Saturday.)
For those who say the commandments of God were nailed to the cross, then why do they believe it when told that Sunday is the Sabbath? Why do they even care since they also believe that the Law of God was nailed to the cross and done away with?
God''s Word and commands written in His own hand will never change. The world is so deep in Tradition that it means more to them the what the Word of God says.
We need to study more to see what the Bible really teaches. Only one day was ever made holy and sanctified and that was the 7th day Sabbath. This was given at the beginning of time before there ever was a Jewish Nation. It was given to All mankind. - Reply to this comment

- Most people who say that the seventh day Sabbath is no longer binding upon Christians like to quote Colossians 2:14 and then they criticize others who don''t engage in religious activities on sunday. Can''t they see that this is very hipocritcal?

- The one thing this segment failed to mention and maybe it is not been "studied" even though, inc. myself and others I work or have worked with (if they work a M-F work week) is that alot of reason people get that Sunday gloomy feel is the fact they go to jobs they dislike, work with people they can not stand, or hate the fact they have a long commute (IE Washington DC area) or other work related factors. It is not so much that people work 6 days a week (which alot do) or go go go on Sat with kid related sports stuff and realize that Sunday is the only day for them.
I agree with Brei513 on the statement of faith and state and force people to close on Sunday. I think it should be left to the owner of the store (ie Chikaflet, it is up to the owner to make that choice, not the state). - Reply to this comment
- DUH???
If you establish a day of rest for all...if you legislate it then you ARE establishing a religion. You are punishing people that do not see it that way.
Rudeness I guess goes along with your arrogance. - Reply to this comment
- There is no mention of "separation of Church and State in the Constitution". Perhaps rather than being lemmings, some people might actually read the document for once in their life and see what it actually says. I believe you will see that it says that the government may not establish a religion such as The Church of England. DUH !!

- To add my 2 cents worth... Observant Jews, Muslims and even Seventh Day Adventists were not mentioned at all in their observance of Sabbath which as you have learned from others is celebrated on Saturday (the seventh day according to a calenar). Televisions, computers, phones, ipods, blackberrys, etc ARE turned off. Family and friends gather round to ''veg'', worship, play, love..... it should come as no surprise that it is not the fact that ''Jews have kept Shabbat'' rather it is the fact "Shabbat has kept the Jews"

- Loved the story on Sunday, the FIRST day of the week. I have to make a note to Ms. Shulevitz, that SATURDAY, the seventh day, is the SABBATH, not Sunday.
It was changed by the Holy Roman Church by Constintine, under HIS law, not 4th commandment, Jesus is the keeper of the Sabbath. It was changed for pagan sun worshippers in the 4th century. Saturday is SABBATH in over 100 lauguages throughout the world. I think that alone stands on it own merit. Read the Bible for facts too. By the way, I am not a Jew or an Adventist. - Reply to this comment
- Yes, it''s a good idea for peop[le to be able to rest, spend time with family, "vege" out one day a week, but it can''t be legislated. We proclaim ourselves to be a nation with separation of church and state. With so many different religious affiliations, the state cannot just pick a day and say your business can''t be in operation today. For those who observe the Sabbath on Saturday, it would pose an economical hardship to force them to close 2 days a week by mandating Sunday as an "official" day of rest.

- I enjoyed hearing "Gloomy Sunday" in the televised version of this story. I never get tired of Billlie Holiday. Her birthday is coming in April...April 7, 1915. That might be a fun Sunday Morning story. Make it a long piece with lots of pictures and of course, songs.

- Ms Judith Schulvitz....the Sabbath is Saturday. Look in the Bible...it is the seventh-day not the first. It was changed by the Catholic Church in the 400s or maybe earlier to compromise with Sun worshippers. As you sit there so glibly and talk about possible legislation..have you also forgotten about the separation of church and state. The Puritans didn''t understand that...but hopefully we won''t forget it.
