william2281, Maybe I''m lost here...are you taking to me? I''m on your side man, 100%. I *was* a lifelong Republican, but now I think Bush is a criminal and McCain is insane. Okay? -Doug

william2281, I whicha man, 100%...don''t get me wrong...I was just saying that some congressmen who supported the war by voting for it probably had no idea what it was merely an oil war. I don''t think they''re all that smart. I know Chris Shays, who supported the war for many years, personally. I don''t think of him as unpatriotic, at least not until he came out in support for McCain. By then he should have had the common sense to know better, but labeling him unpatriotic because he supported the war is further than even I am willing to go.

william2281, Even as an Obama supporter, that''s a little too tightly defined for me. I defended the decision to enter Iraq for years. I even supported Obama at first while still thinking the war was righteous. It wasn''t until I rented the movie "A Crude Awakening" and learned about "peak oil" that I began to understand what Obama meant by saying there was a better way. The better way was not to be on a par with the Chinese in Sudan who aid in the Dafur genocide in order to maintain access to the remaining easy oil, as we have killed an estimated 400,000 to 1,000,000 Iraqis. Peak oilalso explains the relationship between Russia and Iran, as well as the harsh Russian response to Geogia''s aggression. THESE ARE ALL OIL WARS. IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THAT, THEN YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE WORLD IN WHICH YOU LIVE. Few do, though. They think we are spreading democracy in Iraq. Wrong. What we are doing in Iraq is killing people. The better way took me a long time to understand though. It is spenind billions not on war, but to develop alternative energy, to break our dependence on oil and keep our wealth here in the states. Exxon/Mobile who runs adds non stop on these page, Bush and the Republican Party want us to think they are doing something righteous. We''re not. It''s a purely mistaken foreign policy turned all out, shameless war profiteering. I know that now, but it takes a lot of time and committed thought to see this truth. Few are willing to do so.

I might add, that maybe being willing to lay your life on the line is a subset of supporting the constitution...but anyone that dodged the draft, or pushes making war, should help fight the war.

That is the point of my writing.

It would seem that we disagree on this point...that does not mean we disagree on everything.

I know a lot pf people, mostly republiCONS, that would not be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice or allow their kids to for their country. They see any war as a way to make money. You know...Halliburton etc

I did not enlist to give my life...I enlisted to serve my country. I am pretty sure you did the same.

However, if it came to me or them, guess what I would pick???

tuckerndfw and joe68sg1, I''m pretty sure you guys are on the same team and this is largely a semantics thing, but I do recall Patton or someone else saying we should let the other poor dumb *** die for his country.

There is a difference between giving your life for a false premise, and being willing to give it for your country.

Example :

Bush & Cheney dodged the draft to avoid fighting for their country.
You and I did not dodge the draft, and were willing to lay it all on the line for our country.

That is patriotism to me.

Patriotism is a state of mind...and I layed it on the line to preserve that.

I believe McSame is a Patriot...however that does not qualify him, or you & me, to be president.

tincup356, I''m only hear because my soon-to-be commander-in-chief, President Obama, said not to take anything for granted and to keep fighting until the last minute, but I''m pretty dang sure we got this one and that there will be no vote rigging this time because the entire world is watching. Early voting in itself is a major victory for us. TWO MORE DAYS! It feels like Christmas to me. Two more days until the Karl-Rove-Steve-Schmidt-Puppet-President-Propaganda machine is laid to rest. Two more days until we have a true leader in the White House. Two more days until this "who stole the Republican Party" nightmare is over. TWO MORE DAYS! until these citizen bashers, "we''re the only true patriots" disgusting, vile show comes to an end and we can get back to the business of living life, not worried about loose cannon in the White House. TWO MORE DAYS!

i would hope it would mean Americans waking up and seeing we are under a serious attack economically, to thwart this attack we must act to remove those from office who voted for the SELLOUT.Mark my word these people are not through, they only await to be re-elected to finish the attack. After getting re-elected they will say that they under estimated the problem and are going to need billions more , after we cant do a thing about it. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

I''m not sure what the best defintion of patriotism is when your country is underattack from an enemy within who waves flags in your face night and day and slams anyone not wearing a lapel pin, but I do know McCain thinks of himself as a WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO WAR HERO Okay Johnny boy, we heard you the first time.

You are correct in the context pf the current war in Iraq.

However, the premise still remains.

I agree with you that I would not volunteer to fight this war in Iraq. That war is worse than the one I served in...Vietnam.

However, I would volunteer to go to Afganistan if I wasn''t way to old to really help.

I really think we need a draft, EVERYONE spends at least 2 years in the military. No deferments.

I believe that if we sent a few rich republiCON sons & daughters to war, they would not be so fast to start these stupid, unjustified wars.

Send Bush or Cheney''s kids over there, and the war would end RIGHT NOW !!!

Some bloggers do more harm for their cause than good. Some bloggers are mentally ill, and I advise all Obama supporters not to address this man. His is clearly sick, adnd most likely very drunk. I have reported him multiple times now but noone is at home at CBS. Please do not engage him. It only makes it worse.

The way ah see''s it.
No matter from what country or nation

Everyone should have two flags.

You can s--t on one flag
and cover it up with the other flag

other than that flags are a curse for causeing trouble.

Patriotism is caring enough about the direction of your country to take the time to try to pursuade your fellow countrymen to your point of view even though you know in your heart that what they really want to say is "I ain''t vote''n for no ..." (if such blatent racism were not now politically incorrect), you know, guys like John McCain or "That one" as he likes to say.

How Do You Define Patriotism?
I define it as being willing to lay down your life for your country
If you are not willing to do that, how can you possibly be a patriot?

You are definitely a republiCON idiot...
Maybe you should join the military and make the ultimate sacrifice...anyone that is so vile as you can redeem yourself that way.
Everyone will think you are a hero...instead of a republiCON idiot!!!

Power to the people, not corporations

But real Americans know fascism when they see it.

Agreed! The USA has been a Fascist nation since 1980. And now that there are a new set of voters known as patriotic college and university students, 90% of whom plan to vote this week, 65% for Obama, 30% for McCain, America can finally move into the future with its head held high, instead of living in the divisive fascism of the past 28 years brought to US by the Republicon Party.

jgg0002 said: "how many poor people do you know that provide jobs? "

I know many poor people that make beds, sweep streets, fix toilets and, in so doing, allow the rest of us to be more efficient in our jobs. In that sense, they provide jobs. I don''t believe that rich people ''provide jobs''. They want to make money, and they need to hire poor people to do the ''dirty work'', otherwise they wouldn''t hire them. They don''t ''provide jobs'' out of any sense of charity to poor people, although the best of them understand that that''s the most important thing they do, even as they try to make a profit, just as most poor people realize that, by working, they keep the business going.

tuckerndfw, And what we need now, more than ANYTHING ELSE, and I do mean anything, is a constitutional admendment that requires computerized voting machines, if they are used, to print out a result of what the voted did and that it can be reviewed and SIGNED by the voter before being put in a voting box. The constitutional amendment must clearly state that the act of dropping the signed, printed ballot in the box is the legal act of voting. That same admentmend must also require that a certain number of voting machines are available for X number of voters, say one machine for every 500 voters or so. I pray to God that Obama makes this a priority. We just lost control of our contry to a bunch of criminals who have our fellow citizens berating us night and day for NOT being patriotic because we belong to a different party. How insane is it that foreign coutries with far fewer freedoms than we have, such as the Russians, are so afriad of McCain stealing a third election that they are sending people hear to oversee our election?
