Comments on: Diagnosing The Health Care Debate
Sunday Morning: How Are The Candidates' Health Proposals Different And Will They Help The Uninsured?
- Under Mccains plan if you have healthcare from your employer you will be taxed on the benefit which is about 12,000 for a family plan...at 28% tax bracket and get ready to pay about $2500 for it. Mccains plan is a disaster and will make more employers drop coverage. furthermore insurance and pharmeceuticals are deregulated just like wall street was and they are comitting fraud, denying coverage and ripping off the public and no one is paying attention....mccain will continue this deregulation..in fact he thinks it is good. By the way why hasn''t mccain opted out of his taxpayer funded health care if its so bad for the rest of us?? I am having a hard time with this because he can purchase any plan in the world....

- "I''''m a healthcare provider (shrink) and you are wrong. We want health care for everyone. And, please....do not ever classify us with lawyers",
reading comprehension would help. yes, we want healthcare for everyone, but not run by some bureacrats in Washington that only know how to balance budget, and are not involved in medicine.
secondly, if health profession is targeted (and it already is being demeaned as "providers" instead of doctors or professionals), then rates of all the other professions will have to be government controlled. and if you think that should not be the case, I would like to know your rationale. - Reply to this comment
- "you have no idea what you are talking about. My father was a disabled vet, and he received top quality care his entire life from a HUGE government-run medical health care system, call the VETERANS ADMINISTRATION. The VA is a SOCIALIZED HEALTH CARE SYSTEM." ... yes, a really bad one, a system that systematically denies care and puts roadblocks to veterans, instead of providing them first rate care... thats why vets are always calling their congressmen to complain... your experience may vary, but as far as I know nobody is pointing at VA as an example of healthcare we would like to have in USA. same goes for Medicare, yes, it is "free" for seniors, but good luck with finding a provider that will accept new Medicare patients. Medicare rates are something like 25% of customary charges. Medicaid, and other state run programs, even worse, mountain of papers to fill out, lousy reimbursement.

- I worked in Taiwan and Spain for many years, and I traveled to Japan and some other countries for business very often. I can say the healthcare system/insurance in United States is a big joke. Here a %u201Cdecent%u201D health care plan cannot save a person with severe disease from bankruptcy, and it will drop the person when he lose the job due to the illness. Furthermore, such a bad %u201Cdecent%u201D plan cost so high that tens of million people in this country cannot afford any plan.
In Taiwan for example, which GDP per capital is about half of US, but the medical expense cost less than 1/10. It took only $250 US dollars for a middle class to insure a whole family for a year. Co-pay is like 2 dollar and you can go any doctor any hospital you like. No appointment needed either. And I could not tell any different in the quality of treatment from the experience of my families and myself.
By comparison, the healthcare system here sucks, it%u2019s much worse than a developing country. And the most unbelievable thing is many still think it%u2019s fine!
People, please weak up and vote Obama! - Reply to this comment
- anyway, I don''t see physicians of this country going along with "government controlled medicine" ideas, until all the other professions, including lawyers, accept a total government control of their work and government dictated rates. that will be the end of professionals in this country. I fully expect doctors to tell the government to go to hell, if they try to take over health care. At that point Congressmen will become defacto "healthcare providers"; patient will go to see them to obtain their healthcare, hehehehe! That will last about one week and then the whole government plan will collapse.
Shades of that crazy women Clinton and her secret healthplan administered by "unbiased" accountants and lawyers. - Reply to this comment
- "Good program but you totally missed the point. France has NO malpractice, you can do no wrong, can''''t get sued and there is NO Trial Lawyer''''s Assoc. Now if you remove a trillion dollar load from our health care system..." Exactly right!!! I see tens of thousands of dollars wasted each day in so-called DEFENSIVE MEDICINE.. if you don''t document everything and do all the tests, you will get sued, your insurer will drop you, and you will not be able to practice medicine. the insurer will drop you even if you win the medmal cases, because you cost them too much money to defend. it costs tens of thousands of dollars to defend a medmal suit, and millions if you loose it. even for crazy *** stuff.

- Face it, there are some people in this country that think only about themselves. Patriots? Not a one of them. As long as they have got theirs, to hell with you if you somehow have fallen on hard times and can''t afford health care. Now of course, they don''t mind handing out billions to Israel, because that makes them feel holy. Or billion, trillions to companies like Halliburton because that''s just the way of war. But when it comes to saving lives, forget it.

- Yeah, all you smart people on here are right. The US government should administer and charge us ALL for our health insurance instead of letting private companies. Afterall, we all know that the US government really knows how to run an efficient profitable or at least budget neutral business now. Lets let our government show us how its done. (Yeah right...)LOL.
Its OK. If the US government messes it all up, they can just get ANOTHER $700 BILIION BAILOUT for it, right? But at least we can all have free health insurance.
