Could Attitudes On Skin Color, Not Issues Still Decide The Presidential Contest? Experts Debate What Voters May Truly Feel
- "I don''t want to say I''m prejudiced or anything, but for one, I''m not going to, I don''t want to vote for a colored man to be our president," said one voter.
That always makes me laugh. It is a de facto admission that the individual knows that racism is bad, yet they believe that they should be allowed to be racists.
As if they were entitled to treat racism as a "personal decision", if you will.

- In a brief conference call with press reported by the Anchorage Daily News, Palin said, "I%u2019m very, very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing %u2026 any hint of any kind of unethical activity there. Very pleased to be cleared of any of that."
What part of "broke the law" doesn''''t Palin understand?

She probably just finished up with Hillary 101 and just hasn''t learned to hide it as well. That comes in the advanced class. - Reply to this comment
- Once again, the major news media is pulling out the race card. I wonder if anyone else sees what I see.
It seems like all they do is try to start wars in the streets by stirring people up. You got the mexican pot growing thing, you got OJ, you got the political sparring...but it''s just not enough, so they say its a black and white thing.
Watch these media elites....they are pushing people''s buttons and they know it...and people''s fuses are gonna get shorter as the money gets tighter, and they know that, too. Maybe if they can do it fast enough, Bush will declare martial law and remain dictator for 10 more years.....lol....ya just gotta love this country, don''tcha? - Reply to this comment
- Joe, You missed the whole point. He identifies with how he was always treated. He was never treated as white so why would he identify himself as white? Almost all African Americans are part white, and if he was not Barack Obama he would be thought of just like any other African American. 100% American and called black even though it is an inacurate description of a people who are actually mixed. That''s the reality of it and it has nothing to do with a dislike of America.

- I am White and I could care less if Obama or any other candidate is Black, Yellow or blue. What I care about is experience, truthfulness, political agenda and judgement. Obama has so many failings in all these areas that I do not believe he is capable of being our Commander in Chief and actually will harm our country with his socialist goals and a democrat controlled Senate and Congress. I do believe that Democrats just dont care about his background, as long as they can ride the "free handout promise train" though it will end up in a camp similar Fidel''s, Chavez etc. The only race comments Ive heard have come constantly from the liberal news, and Obama and his camp. They have played the card thtough the whole campaign yet dont mind at all that most blacks will vote for him based on race vs his qualifications of which he has none. Racism is here and its thriving in both OBAMA''S

- What a race issue media blitz today. Everywhere I looked when I got up this morning. First thing on Headline news, then on Sunday Morning, then the first headlines online. I too was very disappointed on this biased story. Not one mention of all the black voters who will vote for Obama just because. It''s scary to think of all the people who will vote based on such silly reasons. But, most do. Very few people take the time to really research their candidates.

- Commenting on internet boards is a waste of time. Nothing anybody says matters. I am not white and I am not black. Where I come from everybody is of the same race. I think Americans like to have racial tension. It keeps the working class in line. From my time in America, from observation, Black people have more rights than white people. Lastly, I don''t believe Americans really have a right to vote. That is just a show to make people feel better. Obama will be president because America''s power elite want to make nice with Arabs.

- Rolling Stone Magazine Article on John "The Make-Believe Maverick" McCain
" Growing up, McCain attended Episcopal High School, an all-white, all-boys boarding school across the Potomac in Virginia, where tuition today tops $40,000 a year. There, McCain behaved with all the petulance his privilege allowed, earning the nicknames "Punk" and "McNasty." - Reply to this comment
- Race unfortunately, does matter and there will always be a lingering sense of difference with some people.
It just is sad that there are those in this country that cannot see past the face.
I hope that if Obama does get elected that people will not judge too quickly, one way or another, on the decisions he is making because of the color of his skin.

- It was interesting to see a news article that devoted itself to voting on racial lines while only exporing the impact of racial bias from anglo voters. The overwhelming issue of racial bias in this election has to come from black voters who are alomost in their entirety voting for Obama. This is the most reverent adherence to racial bias. Black voters are voting on racial lines. This is prejudicial bias. Why do news reports not delve into this aspect of the picture when they focus on a much smaller percentage of anglican voters who are prejudicial and fail to vote for a person because of his merits, but vote against him because of his race? This is not more of an issue than voters who vote strictly for a person because he is of African heritage. Wise up CBS. Give us the full story.

- I was amazed at how one sided CBS handled such a serious issue. No mention of the 90+% blacks who will vote for Obama because he is black? If it is racism when whites vote white, what do we call blacks voting black? By not even mentioning this issue, CBS lost all credibilty. I am a very disappointed 20 year viewer.

- I am so afraid for this country. Everything that is happening is prophesized in the Bible. It is our fault for the way things are now. Jesus, if we really have Jesus in our hearts, teaches us that we are to love EVERYONE, no matter what color, gender, etc. This presidential campaign has shown us and others in the world that we are nothing but hypocrites. We cannot tell another country about "ethnic cleansing" and we can''t even solve our own problems. What are you going to do on judgement day when its too late to change? Can we just love one another like Jesus has loved us and stop the bickering? Things are going to get worse no matter who wins the election, so get ready!!!

- King had a dream that people should be not be judged by the color of their skin but by content of character. Blacks are not solely descriminated against by the color of their skin but by their character and cultural differences. King may have known that, but placing emphasis on skin color would be easier to accept among Blacks. There are other races whose skin color is other than
White but their character and culture are more easily accepted. Obama, no matter what his background, is linked to those differences among Blacks and that is why he stands to lose the support of many White voters. Until Race is delt with in realistic terms with a more honest and truthful approach we will never overcome. - Reply to this comment
- The real culprit in turning the 2008 presidential election into a destructive racial conversation of us against them is the media.

You are so right.
Why does the media apply a double standard in the "race decides votes"issue. Why is black voters voting for race ignored. The media has in fact tried to instill in blacks the RESPONSIBILITY to vote for Obama. - Reply to this comment
- It is the intelligence which counts. Intelligent person will never vote for McCain.

- The choice is clear this election
1. You can vote for intelligence, a person who is wise enough to choose as advisors those considered the best in their field. One who revered his country so much that he chose a highly qualified person to run as his VP. And a person who happens to have the advantage of knowing and liking many people who may or may not be just like him
OR
2.You can vote for the maverick, that person who flies by the seat of his pants, one who leaps from idea to idea, without a complete idea. A person who chose for his vp one who only has a PR image, very shrewd, but ignorant on every issue. And finally, this person who surrounds himself with ex corporate heads, ex Bush advisors, and lobbyists, - Reply to this comment
- Who is the real John McCain?
Why does he refuse to answer any questions regarding his close ties and collaboration with known terrorists?
-Why did John McCain pal around with known anti-Semitic terrorists? McCain served on the board of an international pro-Nazi, anti- Semitic terrorist group that worships a gold statue of Adolph Hitler and supports ultra-right-wing death squads in Central America, (they literally worship in front of a golden Hitler statue.) John McCain is a terrorist sympathizer who condones the murder of innocent civilians.
