Worried About Gas Prices? Ben Stein Says Don’t Look To Government Or OPEC To Help
- Even today, running some errands before all the family who decided as a whole not to travel out of town this year comes over, people are driving like bats out of you know where. I almost got plowed one time by someone who must have been doing 55-60 in a 35 mile zone BECAUSE OF AN INTERSECTION ON A CURVE!!!
Additionally, after finally making my turn and not being plowed over, another car came out of nowhere probably doing 45-50 behind me, and this section of road is also 35. I looked and saw I was doing nearly 40 and they were trying to push me along. I dutifully slowed down to 34 the rest of the way and made sure they didn''t pass me.
I LOVE holding people up who can''t bother to follow the speed limit if not for safety''s sake, then because of the cost of oil and the state of the economy in general.
I also slow WAAAAY down below the speed limit when people ride my bumper. It''s best on two lane double divided country roads, where they can only pass by putting their own lives at risk. Let them eat cake. I hope someday to see someone bite the dust passing me on a two lane road after riding my bumper to the point I can''t even see their headlights. - Reply to this comment
- I wonder how often Mr. Stein takes a subway, bus, Prius, bike, or sequeway to his appearances and career obligations. Funny he didn''t mention that, isn''t it?
I bet he rides in a big fat limo nearly everywhere, and with his money, has a private plane to get from point A to point B faster, but using a lot more resources than the average SUV gas guzzling family.
The ploy here is the rich want the rest of us to ''save, conserve, etc.'' so they can ride in their custom buses, limos and planes to where ever they want to go. We''re costing them too much money, so the have-nots have to give up something.... - Reply to this comment
- It should be pointed out that much of the rise in gas prices has to do with the dollar hitting all time lows as a currency. Which, could be argued, has been caused by borrowing money from the Chinese to pay for the war in Iraq (while giving massive tax cuts to the most wealthy Americans.)
That might have something to do with it as well, Mr. Stein - you shameless conservative douch.ebag. - Reply to this comment
- Ben Stein is very good at trivia. It''s little wonder, then, his columns are so very trivial.
I have a feeling this conservative shill would be singing a MUCH different song if the GOP hadn''t been running the show for so many years. - Reply to this comment
CBS are you just going through a "stein" phase?
Murrow would be absolutely ashamed of having
this reeetard as part of your group.

any value.

- Stein is right about there being no short term solutions.
The long term solution is to authorize drilling and exploration for oil and gas anywhere the geologists think there is any - on shore or off shore - anywhere it could be found. We need to relax environmental laws so we can build more refineries and nuke plants.
We need to increase our domestic oil supply as soon as possible! Not to do so is pure stupidity. - Reply to this comment
- "Stop Whining AND" vote out Republicans so we can move away faster from the two oilmen currently in the White House ... AND invest in alternative energy sources.

- Ben, Ben, Ben! And CBS Sunday Morning Show that broadcasted this segment:
You are commenting from an elitist seat. How do you propose to buy a new car or ride mass transit if you, as millions of us do, live in a rural area? Here is a small dose of reality: With minimum, or even "average" income for a rural area, there is no money for a new car, unless you can sell your house and live in the car. Here is breaking news for your world: In our rural areas THERE IS NO MASS TRANSIT! And the national bus system, Greyhound, has cut out service to many of these areas. There is not much train service either, and none that would help getting to a job, a Dr. appointment, the grocery or drug store, or church.
Your revised solutions to the energy crisis are....?
