- The greatest Ponzi Scheme in the history of Chritianity is the tithe. God said it was food, man changed the bible to convert the tithe to money. I resigned from tithing after 30 years of deception. Now I want everyone to know it does not work. Lean how to resign from tithing and read this:

- Churches LOVE to use Malachi 3:8-10. But they gloss over what it says.
Malachi 3:10
"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be FOOD in my house."
Is it talking about funding the Church? No. Is it talking about paying for Staff, or maintenance, or that spiffy new multi-million dollar addition? Nope. Malachi 3:10 says FOOD. For the PEOPLE.
That was the purpose of the Tithe, to provide for the Levites (who had no inheritance), who gave 10% of the Tithe to the Priests (Num. 18:21-28). Every third year, the Tithe was to be shared with aliens, orphans, widows, and the poor (Deu. 14:27-29).
Using the Tithe to fund the Church is NOT Biblical. It is twisting, abusing, and distorting Scripture. It is a lie from the Father of Lies to pervert the true purpose of the Tithe (to care for the people).
If the Church cannot survive in its current form without falsely collecting and misusing Tithes, then let the Churches fail so that we can finally serve God in Spirit and in Truth. - Reply to this comment
- In regards to tithing, the question is not what is someone?s opinion or interpretation of Malachi 3:10. The question is what does the Word of God say about Malachi 3:10 and other scriptures concerning the tithe? The Word of God is the truth and the Word of God addresses tithing. The tithe command in the Bible was part of the law, which was given by God to the Israelites through Moses. The tithe command had to do specifically with the produce of the land and the livestock (not money). The tithe can be found in the Old Testament (Leviticus 27:30-34) (Numbers 18:20-32) (Deuteronomy 14:22-29).The tithe command can be found in the New Testament (Hebrews 7:5). In Matthew 23:23, Jesus spoke of the Scribes & Pharisees tithe of the produce of the land (mint, anise & cummin). In Luke 11:42 Jesus spoke of the Pharisees tithe of the produce of the land (mint, rue and all manner of herbs). The Israelites followed the LAW which required them to tithe the produce of the land and the livestock as stated in Deuteronomy 14:22-29 and Malachi 3:7-12. There are no percentages placed upon the giver, as shown by Jesus in Mark 12:41-44 as the poor widow gave all she had to the temple treasury. The rich gave to the temple treasury out of their abundance in Mark 12:44, also proving that there are no percentages placed upon the giver. The temple treasury is where the money was given and the people gave freely to the temple treasury. There were no percentages for the giver. The tithe was a food program designed to feed the Levites, strangers to the land, the fatherless and the widows, as stated in Deuteronomy 14:29. The tithe consisted of the Israelites giving 10% of their produce of the land and the livestock. Hebrews chapter 7 verse 5 states: And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham. Numbers chapter 18 verse 21 states (God speaking to Aaron): And behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation. How do you give money? FREEWILL GIVING, which has NO PERCENTAGE placed upon the giver, as shown by Jesus in Mark 12:41-44 as there were NO PERCENTAGES placed on those giving to the treasury, and also stated by the Apostle Paul in 2nd Corinthians 9:7, as Paul said "EVERY MAN according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver". The Apostle Paul said that no one is to give out of necessity, which is the Greek word anagke (an-ang-kay'), which is defined as constraint, and a person is not to give out of having constraints placed on them to give. People are under no command to give any other way than as they purpose in their hearts to give as God has prospered them. The Apostle Paul did not teach the tithe and there are no records in the New Testament showing that the Apostle Paul paid tithes to anyone while following Jesus Christ, and there are no records in the New Testament of anyone in the Church of Jesus Christ paying tithes to anyone, or taking tithes from anyone. The reason that the tithe was not taught was because the tithe is not for the Church. The tithe is for the Levites, Levite priests and the Israelites and this is proven in the Word of God. Sunday paycheck preachers who place an obligation on Christians to pay them tithes are going totally against the Word of God through teaching their lies, and scamming people out of money, just as people were scammed out of their money through lies by Bernie Madoff, the Enron executives, and numerous others.

- Dear Sir/Madam
Hope you may be able to help? We are doing a film project and would love any kind of support.
Our film is on Religion and its effects on the Economy.
Tithing is one of the theams in our documentry.
We feel no one has ever done an intencive study in to tithing and how other religions practice it, different perspectives, not to mention the after effects?
Could you please help us in any way or form.
This might be through statistics or put us in contact with people that would help put the film together.
Val G
P.S. I am from Australia, right now live in Ukraine gathering material for this documentary film.
After 20 years of addiction to narcotics and 20 years of recovery it became clear to me that this film needs to be done?

- "For all the promises of God in Christ are "yes and Amen" 2nd Corinthians chapter 1 verse 20."
He does not say only if we pay God tithes. - Reply to this comment
- How can you call someone lazy? You read the New Testament, but missed Matthew 5:17-20 which says
Passage Matthew 5:17-20:
17"Do not think that I came to abolish the (A)Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.
18"For truly I say to you, (B)until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
19"Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least (C)in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20"For I say to you that unless your (D)righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Cross References:
# Matthew 5:17 : Matt 7:12
# Matthew 5:18 : Matt 24:35; Luke 16:17
# Matthew 5:19 : Matt 11:11
# Matthew 5:20 : Luke 18:11, 12
So bottom line, if the law is to tithe, then we tithe. If we choose not to tithe, then we are punished.
After all, if we rob a 7-11, we'll get locked up. So why do we think we won't be punished if we break God's laws? - Reply to this comment
- It is a sad but an obvious fact, that the majority of Church members are too lazy, trusting or gullible to study the New Testament Bible in detail for themselves on this matter. I did and know the truth, if they did they would also discover that tithing was abolished at the Cross of Christ. If most people are being duped then it is their own fault for accepting whatever they hear Preached to them. I do however feel that some law should be passed against scared people on welfare or government assistance into tithing because it is the Tax payers money & some are not being helped by the Church but blamed for being poor for not tithing as in Malachi 3. Some of my out of work friends have had to later borrow money for their food/utility bill because they are scared not to pay tithes like the examples in this CBS News Story. If you try to point out Bible verses that proves otherwise they are so brainwashed they won't even read them in order to discover that Christ paid all of our debts & perfectly fulfilled all Old Testament laws for us to be freely blessed by God. It is plain as day in Ephesians 2:15 He(Jesus)abolished the law with its commandments and rules. In Malachi 3:7 God said "you have not kept my Ordinances" speaking of the tithe, but Jesus has now nailed that to the cross. It is right there in Colossians 2:14 (Christ) "Blotting out "ordinances" that was against us he took it out of the way & nailed it to his Cross". If "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law" according to Galatians 3:13 then someone is lying and I don't think it is The Apostle Paul(writer of Galatians and most of the New Testament. Why can't they just tell the truth that tenth percent is needed to keep the light/gas on and pay the Church staff?

- Wow! Terrific article!
Thank God Christians are seeing the deception of Ministers regarding tithe.
What if everybody tithed? The love of money that has corrupted so many Ministers would destroy Christianity as we know it. The Church would no longer need God; it would have money to solve the salvation problem.
I pastor a non-tithing church and we have feed many hungry folks; we have blessed the needy without exploiting God%u2019s Children.

Deut. 14:23: the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always. And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee: Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose: - Reply to this comment
- tbweb: i respect your opinion, but i do not share it. i think man (in general) does what he has to do to get by. sure, there are some really evil, hateful people out there...but to claim that "sin" is a valid default setting seems absurd to me
