Vaccine safety is a very serious issue that can not be ignored. Doctors and pharmaceutical companies don't want to admit that there could be a problem. I was recently told that the Amish people do not vaccinate their children and that there is no such thing as an Autistic Amish child. I plan on checking to see if this is really true. If it is, I would say that speaks volumes and settles the argument right there! Many people probably assume that of course these vaccines and drugs are safe or my doctor wouldn't prescribe them. That is not true. All one has to do is watch the tv and see all of the drug commercials, one right after the other. Many of these drugs list side effects that are worse than the original condition. Side effects that I have heard with my own ears are TB, Lymphoma or fatality. Do you realize that means that those things are "accepted" side effects? Well, in my book they are not acceptable. Why has the rate of Autistic children skyrocketed? Why do we have so many childhood diseases and so many learning disabilities? If all of these vaccines are supposed to keep our children healthy, I would say that it is not working. It is about time we really looked into finding out once and for all just how safe these vaccines are and what their side effects truly are.

There is enough information out there now regarding the poor science and poorly designed population studies that attempt to exonerate vaccine administration in any number of adverse events that parents see following receipt of the vaccines.
I have a youngster, now 20 years old, who suffered two serious neurological adverse events following Hepatitis B vaccine at the age of 11 years, a trigeminal neuralgia and a phrenic neuralgia, with months of spasmic pain until treated by adult practitioners (not pediatric practitioners) . Never a problem before or in the years after, except for the G.I. symptoms that are now residual from the event.
Until this system gets off its behind and starts to do real scientific investigation of these reactions, me and my children are out of this deadly game.

Has anyone considered that the NUMBER of immunizations given at one time might have something to do with the problems being seen? My children received one or two shots at a time, weeks or months apart. Children now get 3,4,5 immunizations at one time - ridiculous! How can anyone expect a young child's body to handle that sort of insult. I would not want my grandchildren to go without their immunizations, but I would demand that they not all be given simultaneously.

Any medical "experts" making claims on this blog that vaccines do not cause diseases like autism must realize their ignorance when it comes to the "studies." Unless you were personally involved in the study or physically present to view the study, you are as ignorant as anyone else who wasn't there. The results of "studies" have much more to do with statistical variance and bias than true science. We can prove all sorts of things through studies with the magic of statistical presentation. The best evidence to prove any claim is an eye-witness account. If I have thousands of stories of perfectly normal children that took a nose dive with their health just after vaccinations, then no amount of false science or statistical mumbo jumbo can fool the public.

I am so glad to see some press coverage on this disturbing issue. I don't think it is a coinsidence that the increase in autism has risen since vaccinations were introduced. Autism is virtually non-existant amoung the Amish who don't believe in vaccinations. Those that are where adopted. I would recommend reading "What Your Dr. May Not Tell You About Childhood Vaccinations." I think it is well put and helps you make an educated discion on vaccines. The pharmacutical industry has the most to loose on information like this and I am glad to see that CBS has the gutts to show it. Now lets get it on during prime time for more people to see!

With autism rates at 1 in 150 children how can anyone honestly say the the mercury in those vaccines caused no harm. Mercury is a known neurotoxin and in the early '90's our kids received more shots then ever before in history and nobody took into account the increased amount of Thimerosal (which is half mercury by weight) in those shots. Some will have you believe that the huge rise in autism is better diagnosing or that these kids would have been classified as mentally retarded 20 years ago but if this were true then why are the mental retardation rates exactly the same as they have been for decades? You would expect to see a drop in one and a rise in the other but no so here. When you directly inject mercury into a baby at rates that exceed the E.P.A standards there will be a consequence and that is a severe neurologically damaged child. Just compare the signs and symptoms of mercury poisoning and classic autism and they are almost identical in every way. More research is desperately needed in this area but the government refuses to do it. They need to protect the vaccine program at all costs including hiding the facts of how dangerous they really are.

Once again this silly argument continues without the bottom line that vaccine manufacturers are in it for the money, not public health. Any parent with a child who suddenly becomes autistic after a shot knows the truth, regardless of what the party-line drivellers want you to believe.

Enough research HAS been done that shows the relation of vaccines to autism, and a myriad other autoiommune diseases that young people are getting in exponentially increasing numbers (vaccine dosages are increasing at the same rate--a statistic coincidence?). But those in line to make megabucks from new drugs are also in power to be able to have these studies discredited.

If there's any doubt left, really look into how a vaccine is made, and what it's made of. You wouldn't want to be in the same room with the stuff, let alone INJECT some of it into your child!

I would just like to see the medical field be honest about vaccines. A flu vaccine paralyzed me; after 16 months I still have no feeling in my legs. I am told by the Neurologists that this is not uncommon. I never knew that this was possible. I now know of many cases of the flu vaccine causing paralysis. They can not prove that any vaccine or drug is 100% safe or effective, yet when there are complications stemming from the introduction of deadly chemical ingredients into the body, they act like all problems are genetic when the issue is brought to the forefront, so they say there can not be any problems with vaccines or drugs.

As for your comments that No scientist had found a link between MMR and Autism, may I ask your opinion with regard to Dr Andrew Wakefield's findings. Effects of thimerosal on NGF signal transduction and cell death in neuroblastoma cells.

Parran documented that thimerosal causes DNA fragmentation of neuronal cells and disrupts neuronal growth factor signaling at micromolar and even nanomolar concentrations. With and without NGF, thimerosal caused elevated levels of fragmented DNA appearing at 0.01 microM (apoptosis) to decrease at concentrations 1 microM (necrosis). These data demonstrate that thimerosal could alter NGF-induced signaling in neurotrophin-treated cells at concentrations lower than those responsible for cell death.

NOTE: 0.01 microM equals 10 nanomolar concentration or 2 ppb mercury - trace level mercury containing infant vaccines are 600 ppb or more.

Asking for vaccines without mercury is not being anti-vaccine, it is showing common sense.
