- "We have totally full employment."
Where? They are dismantling manufacturing facilities here, but I don't see any new ones going up. I can name 20 people who are unemployed--who lost their jobs since W has been in office--and want to work.
I noticed Stein didn't bring up W's presiding with signing statements--more than all other presidents combined; recess appointments, skirting Senate confirmations, warrantless wiretapping, detention without representation for anyone who crosses him, being caught (repeatedly) manipulating intelligence for his own purposes... and the list goes on.
Oh, and just in case anyone wants to try it, No Child Left Behind is not working.
The success of Bush is as short as Stein's editorial but his tenure is six years. I ask Congress: Why should he get to finish two terms? - Reply to this comment
- Just because Ben Stiller is ugly and wears glasses, doesn't make him an intellectual. Stiller doesn't express ideas or facts, just a child-like wish to believe in the President as Daddy. Daddy's job is to heat the earth and give us light like the sun radiating from the heavens. Mr. Stiller aren't you a little old for this attitude? The President doesn't keep us safe from terrorists, the folks in NYC who created their own anti-terrorist dept are more responsible for this success than the federal government. What is President Bush's responsibility, setting foreign policy and representing US interests in the world, has been bungled, mangled, and mis-directed since the get go. If you want to get an intellectual's opinion on this, read Fiasco, or Cobra II, or State of Denial, or Jonathan Alter's columns in Newsweek, all well-researched, and fact based reporting on this administration.

- There is NO justification for the Dictatorship of George Bush. He does NOT represent the people of this nation.

- It's really odd Mr Stein is the only one who sees this rosy picture! Could it be he is a Bushie in disguise???? Wages around here have not gone up! They are at a alltime low! New homes are out of reach for the average hard working American! My neice and her husband are paying $1700 a month payments! Healthcare for most American's is unaffordable! I don't know who the economy is booming for but it's not the average American! So, I find it hard to find any successes in George W Bush's Presidency!

- I think you must be smoking some of that wacky weed, the only reason the real estate market has been doing so great is that they lowered the interest rate down from 10% to 4 to 6 % so people could afford to buy what they could not before afford. The only people %u201CBush%u201D has helped is the top 5% and that is a disgrace. The only thing you got right in this article is using Bush in the same sentence as Nixon.

- Far too many Americans are single-issue minded and can%u2019t focus on anything other than what makes them most passionate, whether collecting detailed fine china figurines or being totally anti-war. No president in my half century plus life has proven himself gifted for perfection in making all the right decisions, and it%u2019s doubtful I%u2019ll see any in my life. Yes, the war in Iraq is a mess. I want all of our warriors and civilian advisors out of there. However, not all is wrong with the nation just because of Iraq. I%u2019m concerned about our economy, environment, energy demands, outsourcing government workers and educational issues, too. Can we distribute our attentions better, maybe see news investigating waste of tax dollars else where in government? You know, magicians always use slight of hand to draw you attention %u201Cover here%u201D while they pull a quick one with their other hand. Don%u2019t you think some of that might be going on within government? You%u2019d be surprised how many shenanigans you can pull off when you have people%u2019s attentions focused elsewhere. If the press pays more attention to what%u2019s going on in the country that is not Iraq war related, the more they%u2019re going to discover real political mischief. I am by no means supporting or decrying the president. I am saying that we need to pay attention to those issues and concerns that may be sliding by us unnoticed that may cause us even more harm than Iraq.

- Dear Sunday Morning,
Poor Mr. Stein really is much to close to his subject to see what he is saying I guess. I'm afraid I must apply the word "pitiful" to him as well as Mr. Bush. I'll give him a hint since he seems to be in trouble here. So, Mr. Stein, you seem to think we should go beyond accepting mediocrity and self-interest. Outright disasters from our so-called leaders is OK mit you???? Korea, Vietnam, Iraq....
Sincerely,
Neil Talbot - Reply to this comment
- Mr Stein -- you define the word "denial". Nothing, I repeat - nothing any success you can even remotely attribute to Bush can mitigate the enormity of his lies, incompetence, and arrogance.

- Let me try to get this straight..
So country singer Merle Haggard "knows nothing of what's up in America right now." But elitist Ben does.. OK!
If that is true, then I'm sure Bush will be fondly regarded by history as the president who made the stock market climb and had no terrorist attacks for five years. Sure he will...
Clinton had the stock market climb and no terror attacks for eight years!
The real estate boom Benny refers to was started under Clinton- Bush has put an end to it with his trillion dollar Chinese-financed war.
Cllnton also created many more jobs...
No American cities or pieces of American cities destroyed on Clinton's watch.
Is anyone in America still buying this republican kool aid?
God Bless our Troops
God forgive George Bush - Reply to this comment
- Ben,
If you really think that the US "...will be out of Iraq soon..." (forgive me if I paraphrased you incorrectly), then you are as ignorant as your president. - Reply to this comment
- Ben- Everything is rosy huh! You know I see where you republicans when it comes down to one way of thinking is you read from right to left. Thats the only way you could come up with a statement that we are doing so good. Don't blame it on good ol bush the puppet.

- Oh, Benny, I'd say 'take two aspirin and call your doctor in the morning...' but you are WAY too disturbed for that advice. You need some serious education to get the facts straight.

- Well, for some it seems Bush hasn%u2019t done anything right since birth. While thoroughly disgusted by the Iraq mess, I feel pity and recognize the stupidity of those who cannot accept that he has had other successes. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who thinks this country would have been better off with Kerry as President, particularly on and after 9/11, just has mush for brains. Good job Ben!

- BENJAMIN JEREMY STEIN
Despite his prominence as a commentator on politics and economics, Ben Stein is perhaps best known for his career in the entertainment industry, which began as a Hollywood consultant before he moved into acting. His film career received a boost from his famous role as the colorless and boring economics teacher in the 1986 movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off. In one scene he gives a real, unscripted economics lecture - profiting from his own economic expertise, he decided to just "run with it" when the director told him to try to be as 'boring' as possible in this scene. The only scripted lines are those in which he calls attendance.
Stein excelled at playing these bland and unemotional characters, and was subsequently typecast into many roles, mainly as a nerd. He had a recurring role in the TV series The Wonder Years and played himself in Dave.
He also appeared several television commercials, most notably for Murine Clear Eyes throughout the 1990s and 2000s - WHAT A RESUME !!! GO BENNY GO !! - Reply to this comment
- I really cant believe what I'm hearing. If George Bush and *** Cheney were roasting babies on the white house lawn there would still be people like this saying that there's nothing wrong and it's just the evil media. Wake up! As for no attacks on US soil since 9/11, Are there any pinhead republicans that noticed that there were no attacks on US soil for nine years after the first attack on the world trade center in 92? Stop spewing propaganda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
