Nicely done, Michael Phelps.

Eventually, someone else, male or female, will break Mr. Phelps' record. Records are made to be broken.

Also, kudos to Kim Rhode, the first U.S. athlete to medal in individual events at five Olympics !!!

Just guessing, but maybe he's just breathing hard. After all, he just finished a stinking RACE.

He may have blundered at the end of this particular race, however, in regards to the 400 IM in which he placed 4th, is it really appropriate to say he "squandered" the opportunity just because he didn't race his best at that moment?

Also, today Michael Phelps medaled yet again in an Olympic Games--that is something. To say it was "only a silver" is incredibly insensitive to all athletes who have stood on the podium at any level-or to all who have gone to the games at all because that too is more than most people will ever achieve. It is an insult to their hard work, sacrifice and dedication to their respective sports.

Get it together.

I watched that race that he came in 4th. I remember the announcer stating that Phelps was in lane 8 and that NO ONE had ever won the race in the lane (maybe it was any swimming race, not sure). It was explained that Lane 8 is hardest because the swimmer cannot see any of their competition. He explained it further but evidently, he was right. The lane position may have messed with Phelps mind a little, but I was sad to see him come in without a medal, but only because he was trying to break the record for the most medals.

I agree with you about the medals. ALL of the Olympians from ALL of the countries are to be congratulated just for the fact that they made it to the Olympics!! I am happy for all of the medal winners but I will admit, my smile brightens when it is an American!!! No matter what color the little disc is, it IS A MEDAL and only 3 are given in any sport/race.

Congratulations to Mr. Phelps. He has achieved the goal he set out to do in these Olympics. Job well done, Sir!
