I have played team sports and if anyone was knowingly gay in the locker room of course they would be looked upon as different. Right or wrong but sadly that is still the case. Its puts everyone in a awkward position and a unnecessary distraction to the team, so don't ask and don't tell is the easiest course

Oh, they already took that away from the military, so why not sports? Now our men and women in uniform get to deal with homosexuals openly gawking at them in the showers in between sessions of being shot at.

I've had girls who didn't appeal to me, wanting to date or mess around, and I declined. I wouldn't want them coming into the locker room when I was undressed. I had gay kids in school do the same thing, with some getting aggressive about wanting to show me what I've been missing. Some go away with a no, not interested, while others I had to threaten with violence to leave me alone. Neither of those people would I want in the locker room with me, nor would I want some known gay guy who hadn't said anything to me to be eying me up and down. Women wouldn't want guys attracted to them in the ladies locker room, so why would guys be any different in having some dude attracted to them to be in there?

If I am walking down the sidewalk I do not think people are looking at me trying to decide if I am straight or gay! I don't care which way people swing as your $exuallity has nothing to do with anyone but you and your partner!! I don't need to know and if we are friends well then I would think I would already know since friends care about their friends and that talk would have already happened! If we are co-workers, do your job and do it well, other than that I don't care!!!

I get so tired of people thinking I care what you do in your bedroom, I DON'T CARE!!! Do what you want and I will do what I want and the best thing you can do is KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!!!

Now I don't want anyone belittled or not given a job because someone thinks your gay, that's wrong but why does your job have to know your gay! My boss does not need to know what I do away from work as long as I am not doing anything illegal, so again KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!! This not only means gay people but ALL PEOPLE!!!!

LIFE DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND WHAT YOU DO IN THE BEDROOM!!!!

So, then being gay is ONLY about what a gay does in the bedroom? Hilarious. Is that all straight people are about too? You all are ignorant. Get educated. Dumb *****.

So many of the comments here show exactly why gay sportsmen will keep up the charade. Because people like you will make demeaning comments or worse. And you will think you are somehow right in doing so. KnowseekerReturns, did it ever occur to you that some people might find heterosexual sex gross? And mecanik-2009, who said that gay people think you want to know? If you feel that way, please make no jokes about sex with women, or that you kissed your wife, because maybe the gay people don't want to know either. Perhaps gay people simply want to be whole and not keep things hidden.

You mean people want to keep private lives private?

Or that common decency was created for the sake of being mindful of everybody, with people who flaunt their relationship status* being looked down at?

* heterosexual or otherwise, some of society's standards came about for fair reasons (not everybody, single or otherwise, know, care, or need to know what everybody does and if one needs to know that's why rings and other jewelry were created - for both genders), but thankfully we had lovely people like Reagan, Thatcher, and others in the 1980s who ascribed to "There is no such thing as society, only individual men, women, and families"...

It is natural across humans and animals to have and show affection to the opposite sex. Let's call that the norm. Everyone knows what the norm is, but for whatever reason they choose to be outside the norm. Those who choose to go a different way will have to live with the fact they are different because they are in the minority, so they will see and hear the majority or norm do what they do. I will not hide my feelings to the opposite sex just so some "ab-norm" will feel better about themselves. I'm pretty sure the animals or insects will not want to hide theirs either. The fact that some gay guy would see some guy kissing or having sex with a woman as gross, is laughable.

You act as if they are cockroaches or something.

And given they are between 3 and 10% of the entire population of this country, imagine if they felt the same way about heterosexuals who flaunt?
