First, I want to say is that I've watched almost every season. I probably missed two seasons tops when they first started.
Of course it's a popularity contest. That's why fans vote. Not just for the celebs, but also the dancers. All the dancers are amazing, but guys like Hough, Max, Cheryl and Ballas are always expected to make it far unless their dancers are terrible. Imagine Julianne Hough coming back.
That's why I think that one sexy female dancer (forgot her name) quit few seasons ago.
However, that's not always the case.
No one knew Levy or Jenkins and them making it to the final three proves that.
Lots of big celebs get eliminated early sometimes.
Personality means a lot.
But no matter how you look at it, in the end, it is a popularity contest. Especially with football players. They will always win if they just show a little talent.
Warren Sapp was final two. How embarrassing was that?
It really isn't fair. Football fans with dominate the voting. I would refrain from using anymore football players.
As far as this season goes....
I was never impressed with William Levy. Make fun of Cheryl all you want for having a softer body then the others, but she is hands down the best dancer/choreographer on the show.
Levy was the 4th best dancer on the show. He was too stiff. Len was absolutely right about him when he called him predictable.
3rd best was Donald Driver. Even though he shouldn't have won(in my opinion) he was very good. That freestyle was amazing.
Maria was 2nd best. Derrick's Hough's dancing and choreography is extremely predictable. Maria is just about the hottest and sexiest girl I've ever seen, but something about her just didn't look like a dancer. Her emotion, personality, humor and charm won me over.
Number 1 was Katherine Jenkins. Is there anyone or anything sweeter than that girl? Not to mention that voice and beauty. You can tell how sincere she was. If you pay attention, you could even see her go nuts for the other celebs when they'd score a 10. Even shedding a tear for them. Yes she hurt her back on one dance, but she was the best. She looked like a pro.
Again, the sweetest thing I've ever seen. She was so genuine about everything. She really captured my heart and should have won.
Heard that Kate Gosselin might be back on DWTS. Would be nice to also have OCTOMOM on the show as well, she is full of energy and would bring in a lot of viewers
I couldn't agree more with the writer that this is indeed " a popularity contest, as much as it has anything to do with dancing." As I told my husband wearily last night, this is a popularity contest, not a dancing competition! Donald struggled until he landed on the top 3 for the semi finals. i watched every episode and truth be told, he was never graceful and fluid, more like a driftwood. Don't get me worng, Donald is a sweet guy - you can tell from the videoc lips that captured happy and tender moments. But for the life of me,, why him? I wuodl have been happy if it were Katherine who was amazing!!! William Levy was my candidate for the Mirrorball. He glided, he danced to your heart's content. The guy is suave and debonair even with that Hulk-like masculinity. He has what it takes. Too bad, too bad. I guess the producers of the show should re-write their rules. Maybe, lower the percentage of fan votes. Donald clearly won because of his footballl fans who are ignorant about the classic side of dancing. IF you asked former dancers and judges (outside of this show, take note), I be they'd vote for Katherine or William. What a sham!
Donald Driver won because he is a competitor -- he studied the competition and devised a plan to beat them. If you listen to the pre-dance interviews he called exactly what William and Katherine were going to do -- dance latin and do something ballroom, because that was what they did best. What William did was devise a way to break away from the pack and win. Whether it was the support of football fans or, hummm the merit of the dance he was TRULY the better competitor. I do believe that William calling out his competition definitely took the luster off of their performances and his SPECTACULAR country dance not it out of the park. He showed more creativity, execution and skill than is competition and deserved to win. William and Katherine -- Get you some of that, if you want to win next year.
Of course, it's a popularity contest. Why would you have a vote? Everyone sees things differently. Frankly, I didn't see anything special about the way Katerine danced and Levy was so predictable, but cute. Maybe, it should be. . . . .who is the most handsome, sexy, or beautiful contest, according to you. I though Donald was all of that. . . .incredibly handsome, gracious, very smart and well planned. You evidently didn't watch closely enough. He could shake his botty, just like levy. He chose to have a different style, which set him apart. He was so smooth. He just glided across the floor, with just the right moves. Perhaps, you just didn't like his moves, but he definitely brought it every time. I frankly thought the judges actually cheated him with their comments and scores. And, yes, I have danced all my life and I know real dancing. He had it all!!!! Derek, even commented one time that watching him dance, he would mistake him for a pro. . . . that coming from a pro is commendable. Stop being a hater and give Donald his props. He was very, very good, not fifth good, nor fourth good, not third good, but as good and better than the top 2 and that is the way the majority saw it as well. Your favorite didn't win so get over it and stop bashing!
Actually, quite a few pros couldn't understand why Donald wasn't getting more 10's early on when William was. Quite a few of them did not think that William deserved some of his 10's. Btw, did you see William's horrific, mistake-riddled Jive? He had trouble keeping up with ONE partner. In his own Jive, Donald kept up with TWO partners and brought the House down he was so brilliant. Donald's graceful, spry, delightfully elegant Quickstep in just the 2nd week of the season, prove he was the man to beat. No one ever did. Donald's magnificent Viennese Waltz in Week 7, his thrilling Tangos in Weeks 5 & 10, his mesmerizing Paso Doble in Week 4, his astounding 3-Person Jive, his jaw-dropping Freestyle, and his sensationally sensual Finals Cha Cha solidified in many DANCER'S minds, that Donald Driver is the hard-working, skillful, dedicated, tenacious, good-humored, DESERVING winner of the most competitive Dancing With the Stars in 14 seasons of the show!
I never vote for Cheryl Burke, no matter who her partner is. She is too fat to be a ballroom dancer. She needs to go on a diet or give it up. I'm glad she didn't win.
This is the most accurate and entertaining description of Dancing With The Stars I have read. What witty, clever and on-the-money observations. Reading this review was better than watching the show. Good Job.
Actually, it was not "accurate" in the least. It sounds as if the article's author listened to someone else's description of the show(s) or he is the most unobservant "journalist" I've ever read. Is CBS so envious of the fact that Dancing With the Stars is a top-rated show that it would allow lies to be perpetuated about things millions of people saw with their own eyes?! Donald Driver did NOT rub Carrie Ann Inaba's face with his vest. Donald gently caressed her face with his HANDS, then went on to dance one of the most sensationally sensual Cha Cha's imaginable. And Mark Ballas appeared as choked up emotionally as Katherine was.Btw, Donald "stopped" because the very effective choreography required it of him. As for the dancing? In point of fact Donald Driver danced magnificently from the beginning of the season to the end. He was consistently brilliant. Donald's graceful, spry, delightfully elegant Quickstep in just the 2nd show of the season proved he was the man to watch. Donald's magnificent Viennese Waltz in Week 7, his thrilling Tangos in Weeks 5 & 10, his mesmerizing Paso Doble in Week 4, his astounding 3-person Jive, his jaw-dropping Freestyle, and the aforementioned sensational Cha Cha, solidified in many dancers' minds that Donald Driver DESERVED that trophy. The writer should actually LOOK at Driver's dances before holding forth. Both William Levy, in his horrific Jive, and Katherine,in falling out of a move and TRULY stopping her performance, needed votes to stay in the competition because of problematic performances. In contrast, Donald ALWAYS danced well and only needed votes to help compensate for poor judging. Speaking of which: Len Goodman was man enough to admit he'd underscored Donald. It happened after Donald's amazing Quickstep in the 2nd Week. Take a look. That's the first time in 14 years that ever happened. Donald ROCKED it and like a MAN overcame the unfairness with his work ethic, his skill, his tenacity, his good humor, and his dedication. Thank you, Donald, for showing once again showing America that those things make for excellence. Btw,look at PROFESSIONAL dancer, Mark, balance Katherine on his shoulder during the finals (Freestyle), but watch NONprofessional dancer, Donald, hoist Peta OVER his HEAD and keep the beat with his feet at the same time! Watch finalist William Levy's atrociously mistake-riddled Jive in which he found it hard to keep up with ONE partner in that fast-paced dance. Then watch Donald keep up with TWO partners in HIS Jive. In that same Jive Donald not only kept up in the dancing with TWO partners, he simultaneously pulled them both behind him, then slid them both between his legs, then LEAPT over the BOTH of them while they were STANDING, and then landed ON the BEAT! JAW-DROPPING! Donald was always the man to beat. No one ever did. Btw, if anything there seemed to be some bias against a "football player" at work, if anything. When William made awful mistake after mistake in his horrific Jive his score from the judges was 7-7-8!! Donald's score for his nearly perfectly executed First Cha Cha? 7-7-7! They even seemed to try to do some "handicapping" of a football player by "saddling" Donald with a pro who was the FIRST one to have to leave the show JUST last year! What Donald Driver did in overcoming all of that was nearly miraculous! Just as his performance in the 3-person Jive was for a NONprofessional dancer! Donald brought down the HOUSE! And blessedly, it wasn't the only time. Donald Driver DESERVED to win this. Thank God he did! Btw, OTHER athletes have won on the show as well and their percentage of victories is higher than that of football players. 3 Olympic gold-medalists have appeared on the show and WON! Was it the "huge fan base" of each or was something else at play? Could it be that top ATHLETES can become excellent at an ATHLETIC endeavor like dance if they apply themselves? That's what it looks like from here. Should Olympic athletes be "banned" from the show as well? Why should the public have been denied the dynamic, truly exciting Jive, Freestyle, Viennese Waltz, Paso Doble, etc. of a Donald Driver. Athletes, in general, have won half of the seasons of DWTS. Other professionals, including singers have won the other half. Sounds about right. Since if you're looking for "unfairness" you should look no further than Bristol Palin in that gorilla suit inexplicably making it to the finals! Though her mother's brainless conservative supporters, who clearly couldn't care less about actual MERIT, voted like crazy -- and I mean the word, "crazy," literally.
What a sham. When Maria Menunous was sent home instead of Diver, my co-workers and I agreed that Donald Driver was going to be declared the winner. Didn't matter if Katherine Jenkins was ten times better or William Levy five times better than Driver. The black community was going to vote for their own. This leds me to understand how stupid I've been to vote for the best candidate for office. I now realize I need to stick with my own. Thus, Romney will be getting my vote.
Actually the week Maria was sent home - Katherine should have been sent home according to the judges scoring. All of the contestants were good this season so they were all winners. And a side note, the season that Donny Osmond won, the true winner should have been Mya...
Why is your comment posted over and over? Just a fyi...I am a white, middle aged mom of 4 that voted for Driver as did most of Packer nation. The black community is going to vote for their own? Try Wisconsin voting for one of our best athletes on and off the field, a man that loves his faith and family, that donates generously to charities especially in WI and his home state of TX, and wears a smile that lights up a room! He has been loyal to WI fans and we are loyal right back. Your comment is nothing but mean spirited.
If you really believe it was only Black people voting for Donald Driver you are clearly delusional. The Packers have fans throughout America AND Packer Nation is color-blind!
Your ignorance and bigotry is amazing. Do you really think African-americans are watching a show full of people who don't look like them. Wake-up, the world has changed and ignorant bigots no longer rule. Donald Driver garnered votes from mainly Caucasians and won the competition based on creativity, execution, skill and strategy. Maybe if William and Katherine did something other than what was expected they could have won also -- if they can GET THEM SOME OF THAT maybe they can win another time.
Is this comment a joke? Black community? It was 45-year-old white women in central Wisconsin who won this for Driver. Anyway, he's fun and I'm glad he won.

?!? Twit Robme will be getting your vote? With his firing of American workers and shipping of jobs overseas? With his "leading" Massachusetts to the 47th spot out of 50 states in job "creation?" With his off-shore bank accounts because either 1. This country wasn't good enough to keep his money in. OR 2. He wanted to hide it for some reason? President Barack Obama is "your own." As a candidate in '08, Obama promised to get a Health Care Bill passed. DONE! Candidate Obama promised to get Bin Laden. DONE! Promised to bring Troops home from Iraq. DONE! Promised to get an Equal Pay bill signed into law. DONE! Bailed out GM(against Twit Robme's wishes) so that it once again became the #1 automaker in the world! You should vote for your own, Barack Obama, instead of a cajillionaire who thinks corporations are people and looks at REAL people like mere pieces on a Monopoly Board! Btw, go back and look at Donald Driver's graceful, spry, delightfully elegant Quickstep in just the 2nd show of the season, his thrilling Tangos in Weeks 5&10, his mesmerizing Paso Doble, his magnificent Viennese Waltz in Week 7, his astounding 3-Person Jive, his jaw-dropping Freestyle, and his sensationally sensual Finals Cha Cha. William Levy's horrific, mistake riddled Jive, Katherine's falling out of a move and stopping her dance altogether, and Maria's glaringly obvious lengthy section of out of sync dancing on the steps with Derrick NEVER happened to Donald. William, Katherine, and Maria needed votes to overcome problem performances. Donald always danced well and only needed votes to overcome unfair judging. One of the judges, Len, admitted ON CAMERA that he'd unfairly UNDERscored Donald for his 1st Cha Cha. That apology came in the 2nd Week right after Donald's wonderful Quickstep!
What a sham. When Maria Menunous was sent home instead of Diver, my co-workers and I agreed that Donald Driver was going to be declared the winner. How much did you pay them to say that?
