Well, to be fair, think of Josh Groban singing 'Dude looks like a lady'..however, Steven rocks that song. Josh, as good as he is, would not do justice to that song. Just sayin'. Steven did okay considering. And like one commenter said, he didn't try to disrespect the National Anthem like Roseanne Barr did, so there is no comparing.
I PERSONALLY THOUGHT HIS SONG (AND I SAY THAT VERY LOOSELY) WAS HORRIBLE....I JUST MUTED THE SOUND BECAUSE IT WAS SO VERY OFFENSIVE....BUT I ALSO BELIEVE HE IS TRULY A PERVERT....SICKENING ON AMERICAN IDOL...HOPEFULLY THEY WILL GET ANOTHER JUDGE VERY, VERY, VERY SOOON BEFORE THEY TAKE IDOL OFF THE AIR BECAUSE OF HIM....SOME OF HIS COMMENTS ARE DISCUSTING...EVEN THOUGH HE THINKS HE IS SO CUTE....UGG...UGG...UGG....
I think Steve Tyler did an AWESOME job at the National Anthem. He is a ROCK Star, so what did anyone expect. He performed it just as he has his #1 hits that have made Aerosmith MILLIONS. He is an amazing and talented performer and he did an excellent job performing the National Anthem. Go Steven!!!
Oh my gosh! It wasn't that bad! Who said is was bad made it out to be the worst ever, so I had to youtube it and I was waiting and waiting for the bad part, but it never happened. So what was the big deal?
I love Aerosmith - as long as it's a studio recording. Whatever magic they do in the studio mixing is great. I heard them live once, without knowing who the band was, and thought they were utterly butchering a great Aerosmith song.
Obviously, they can't handle live performances without a lot of effects and enhancements so it sounds more like music and less like a blind rhinoceros having sex with an unwilling elephant inside a tin shed during a hail-storm. Keep them in the studio and away from open mikes...
No, that was pretty much the standard Aerosmith sound. Not as polished as what you get out of a studio session maybe, but it wasn't as horrible as some people are making it out to be.
I would rather hear America the Beautiful than the Star Spangled Banner. Just the words to America the Beautiful make more sense than "bomd bursting in air"...I want our national anthem be something beautiful and many many people can't sing the Star at all..like some of the posts say...it is Tyler...what did you expect. This guy is in his 60's. I don't dig the nail polish, the hair extensions, etc. but this an over the hill hippy...takes one to know one.......
The Star Spangled Banner is based on an event in American history, and it's about our nation surviving under difficult circumstances. Both songs have meaning, but the Star is about the triumph of the American spirit; America the Beautiful is essentially a geographic description.
I looked for the video, and I think the complaints are over the top. He did a decent job! He hit all the notes, he didn't jazz it up, he was respectful. I had the impression he tried to do a good job. Some people are comparing him with Roseanne Barr and that's ridiculous. She disrespected the flag and the crowd in various ways with that incident. Stephen Tyler was not making a mockery of it.
He's a ROCKER and a screamer, what do they expect?? I think everybody should settle down. I'm not a rock fan, but I don't think Stephen Tyler deserves to be shredded like this.
Look, it is Steven Tyler, what did you expect? He has made a living, rather good one at that, with his unique style. Why hasn't anyone say anything about all the other performers who sand then anthem no where near how it should be performed. It IS the National Anthem. When any of the people I have heard, from NASCAR, NFL, NBA, or Baseball turns it into a performance, instead of our anthem, why doesn't anyone complain? Look back when Geddy Lee sand "Oh Canada" before the World Series several years back. He sang it EXACTLY as it was written and meant to be performed. Then some American sang the national anthem and it sounded like a train wreck, but that is ok. Steven Tyler is Steven Tyler and sang it the way he sings every song. Ease up or pass an amendment making it a crime to sing it any other way then when Francis Scott Key wrote it. That is how it should be anyway, not jazzed up, sang like a country song or a heavy metal song. Whitney Houston, Jennifer Hudson have both butchered the song but are they uncriticizable because they aren't white? Leave him alone! Atleast he has the balls to sing in front of thousands, you try it before you criticize anyone.
I listened to it and thought it was fine. As someone else mentioned, he is Steven Tyler. That is how he sings. He was not mocking with his singing and in fact I thought he was displaying passion for America in the way he was singing. It is pathetic that so many people criticize him. He expressed humility and thought it was was an honor that he was asked to sing our "National Anthem".

I'll take the Star.
