So Sandra Day O''Connor was at the Court today ...

As this abysmal administration staggers toward its sorry end, one cannot help wondering ... does she regret stealing the election????

One strongly imagines that she might. I can''t wait for her memoir .... assuming she chooses to write it honestly.

My guess is this US Supreme Court will never side with a class-action lawsuit. Just my opinion!

There is a lot of deception or misinformation on both sides.

With my job, I do a good bit of visiting people in hospitals. One of the most striking things that I have observed regards smoking and lung cancer.

Several times now I have been with lung cancer patients who are going through really intense emotional crisis because they are devasted because of the belief..."I can''t have lung cancer because I never smoked!"

Their ange invariably turns to blaming others for getting lung cancer from "second hand smoke", even when they really have not regularly been exposed to that.

Often times the people have been fabric mill workers who are constantly in clouds of dust without wearing any masks or resporators. Some work at construction and demolition sites, again with no protection from the dust. Most people will live in a house for years and never check it for radon gas. Yet when they do come down with lung cancer they can''t believe it, because they never smoked.

Smoking does cause lung cancer, but it comes from a lot of other causes that don''t get the publicity that smoking does.

We all know Smokey Bear is wrong when he says all forest fires are caused by human carelessness. We should not take the same attitude about all lung cancer being caused by smoking. Wearing respuratory protection and checking for radon gas are just as important as not smoking.

And I would like to know what happened to all the money that was won in the 1st lawsuit?

Posted by slim1h2o at 07:02 PM : Oct 06, 2008

By the way slim1, the premise of the lawsuit has been proven to be bogus. The States sued on the grounds that ''providing health care for smokers cost more money'' BUT the Government of the Netherlands conducted a long-term (20 yrs?) study that proved that smokers COST LESS in health care because they die sooner. The incredibly obnoxious ''health fiends'' are the ones who live much longer, develop more long term illnesses, and require treatment for much longer. As I light up my next cigarette I smile as I think of those ''health nuts'' living to be 95 or a 100 & spending the last few years in diapers with bedsores ''cause their ''warehoused'' in a ''nursing home''

At best, it is complicit in the mass murder of its own citizens... hey! So the US government is no better than that of Saddam Hussein? Could it be? Literally gassing its citizens?

I agree.

And I would like to know what happened to all the money that was won in the 1st lawsuit?

The states obsconded with that little payday.

None of the money went to the health care of the smokers.

That should be grounds for an investigation as to where that money went.

This is strange - no one is mentioning that the Supreme Court put another nail in the coffin of the "pro life" activists who would rather see another welfare child brought into this world than allow a sexually violated woman terminate a pregnancy that was from a rape crime.

Nicotine''s trick is to make you think you can''t last three days without smoking.

You can.

Many Christians think that a verse in 1 Corinthians condemns tobacco but, tobacco was produced solely in the America''s at the time of the writing of that verse and thereby Paul couldn''t possibly have had that in mind. Besides, those Christians that interpret it that way do so in contradiction of Jesus'' teaching that what comes out of a mouth defiles a man not what goes into it. Lastly, prejudice against tobacco shouldn''t be a justification for denying the tobacco industry it''s rights.

It is every day common knowledge that smoking kills. I used to smoke and thankfully, I quit. So I''m not a lifelong non smoker with an attitude. I believe that light cigarettes exist so that people who are choking to death off of regular cigarettes can smoke longer. They are expensive, they stink and they kill. Years have gone by and I''ve never been healthier. Try it, you will be amazed at what you can do.

Now this is a true lose-lose situation. The smokers lose, big tobacco lose and the government wins with taxes.

When do we stop attacking the cigarette companies? When to we stop suing cigarette makers for things we''ve known since 1963. It is just apparent that the government has allowed tobacco companies to be fair game over the years and it''s time we stop. I mean where all of these people that sue living when all the warnings and ads about the dangers of smoking came out, Fantasy Island. It''s like people forget that there are 2-3 generations of people who''ve been given this information yet these same people have been allowed to sue like they''d never heard any of it before. It''s just time we pick on someone else for a change.
