Illegal immigrant is a valid term. If you immigrate illegally, technically you are an illegal immigrant...Simple basic, easy to understand by anyone with better than an elementary education.

Illegal immigrant is the term given by white racist to the descendents of the original inhabitants of this American continent.

I find it interesting that you people only want the laws enforced when it suits you, but when the President violates our Constitution, you are all for amnesty.

good post Roachcrusher! I think before we can stop the insanity we have to admit the truth. Truth is immigrants fill a need, they are here because they are invited, even welcomed, and they are a part of our economic health. There are problems, and there can be solutions.

This path of labeling and criminalizing someone who takes a job to get ahead must stop now.

The term "Illegal Alien" was first used in the "Exclusion Act" of 1882. That was a complete ban on Chinese immigration that lasted into the 1940''s.

We all know the hate that drove that disgusting piece of legislation and the term "Illegal Alien."

Why was the Act passed? Well, it seems people here were complaining of the "burden" of having these people here: they take our jobs, they lower wages, they''re lazy, dirty, unlike us, foreign, taking our gold and land. All untrue.

The fact that a government law or act uses a term does not legitimize it if it is repulsive and hate-based. Many other terms have been used by American society and the various government bodies that are no longer considered decent.

It''s time to stop the insanity, the hate and the ugly ignorance.

crusherkings arguments, as unfounded as they are, just do not compute economically. Many immigrants DO pay taxes, in particular payroll taxes that they will never claim (under false ID numbers). So they donate to the economy.

And yes, immigrants are here at our invitation--you and me, we both invite them in. You do not want them to leave because of the impact on your economic world, although you may not understand that. Talk to a businessman who does and you will learn why Republicans and businesses are leading the charge fro immigration reform.

"If you immigrate illegally, technically you are an illegal immigrant..."

insults aside, no sense to this. If you drive illegally you are an alleged speeder or a person with unpaid parking tickets, not an "illegal driver."

A person can never be illegal. All persons have a right to exist and any implication or label otherwise is intolerant and incorrect.

The immigration debate comes down to racism and lazy Americans who fear competition from people who are willing to work hard. That is why Republicans and Democrats, farmers and business people, all support immigration.

of course there are problems with our immigration system. but a fenced addresses none of those.

"Its not the person they are referring to as illegal, ..."

then we agree, illegal immigrant is not a valid term. A person who jaywalks is not called an "illegal walker." Even worse, this term is only applied to workers from Mexico, and is clearly an attempt at racism.

In the end, just a label applied to try to dehumanize someone and bias the debate. Yes, indeed I am one of those, and fact is there are a lot of us :-).

"Don''''t you understand economics?"

I do but you do not apparently. Undocumented workers are here because we invite them, and we need them. They are a key to economic health in many regions and industries. Many of them pay taxes and all contribute to local economies.

The opposition is really from lazy Americans who think the country owes them a free lunch (and dinner and ...), and see each immigrant not as a contributor but as another hand out for a slice of the free pie.

Fortunately the immigrants fo not see it like that: they are willing to take risks, work hard, and seek opportunity to help their family and get ahead. Those are core American values, and immigrants have always been the core.

No, you don''t understand economics. First, most of them do NOT pay taxes. In fact a VERY large portion of illegal immigrants do not pay income tax in any form. Second, Billions of dollars are lost each year to Mexico. Thats money out of our pockets because that money is going to Mexican business not business in the US. If you understood economics, you''d know that this is a VERY bad thing. And we do not invite them here. The US is inviting because of its freedoms and prosperity but there is no formal invitation. And I am all for them being here, IF they do it legally. Why can''t they just come in legally like so many others do and have done for decades? Why do you insist on failing to realize that they are breaking the law?legal or get out.

The economy is near collapse now. The only reason this isn''t being seen as a depression is because the Republican owned and controlled media peopled with Conservatives is still calling this mess a "recession."

If there was no Bush wars, we''d be in even worst shape. All those people in the military would also be looking for jobs in an already bleak employment picture.

Food prices (helped by the low wages paid to many undocumented workers) are going to go up even more. Of course, with this Republican regime, gas will continue to push toward $6 per gallon.

Fabricating stories of dedicated workers draining the welfare system can only be seen is ignorant at best, and hate-based at worst.
