Comments on: High Court OKs Fast Track For Border Fence
Justices Refuse To Rein In White House's Power To Waive Laws To Speed Fence's Construction
- What a crock! ANY nation must maintain control of it''s borders or it won''t be a nation for much longer.

- Illegal immigrant is a valid term. If you immigrate illegally, technically you are an illegal immigrant...Simple basic, easy to understand by anyone with better than an elementary education.

Illegal immigrant is the term given by white racist to the descendents of the original inhabitants of this American continent.
I find it interesting that you people only want the laws enforced when it suits you, but when the President violates our Constitution, you are all for amnesty. - Reply to this comment
- good post Roachcrusher! I think before we can stop the insanity we have to admit the truth. Truth is immigrants fill a need, they are here because they are invited, even welcomed, and they are a part of our economic health. There are problems, and there can be solutions.
This path of labeling and criminalizing someone who takes a job to get ahead must stop now. - Reply to this comment
- The term "Illegal Alien" was first used in the "Exclusion Act" of 1882. That was a complete ban on Chinese immigration that lasted into the 1940''s.
We all know the hate that drove that disgusting piece of legislation and the term "Illegal Alien."
Why was the Act passed? Well, it seems people here were complaining of the "burden" of having these people here: they take our jobs, they lower wages, they''re lazy, dirty, unlike us, foreign, taking our gold and land. All untrue.
The fact that a government law or act uses a term does not legitimize it if it is repulsive and hate-based. Many other terms have been used by American society and the various government bodies that are no longer considered decent.
It''s time to stop the insanity, the hate and the ugly ignorance. - Reply to this comment
- crusherkings arguments, as unfounded as they are, just do not compute economically. Many immigrants DO pay taxes, in particular payroll taxes that they will never claim (under false ID numbers). So they donate to the economy.
And yes, immigrants are here at our invitation--you and me, we both invite them in. You do not want them to leave because of the impact on your economic world, although you may not understand that. Talk to a businessman who does and you will learn why Republicans and businesses are leading the charge fro immigration reform. - Reply to this comment
- "If you immigrate illegally, technically you are an illegal immigrant..."
insults aside, no sense to this. If you drive illegally you are an alleged speeder or a person with unpaid parking tickets, not an "illegal driver."
A person can never be illegal. All persons have a right to exist and any implication or label otherwise is intolerant and incorrect.
The immigration debate comes down to racism and lazy Americans who fear competition from people who are willing to work hard. That is why Republicans and Democrats, farmers and business people, all support immigration.
of course there are problems with our immigration system. but a fenced addresses none of those. - Reply to this comment

then we agree, illegal immigrant is not a valid term. A person who jaywalks is not called an "illegal walker." Even worse, this term is only applied to workers from Mexico, and is clearly an attempt at racism.
In the end, just a label applied to try to dehumanize someone and bias the debate. Yes, indeed I am one of those, and fact is there are a lot of us :-).

- "Don''''t you understand economics?"
I do but you do not apparently. Undocumented workers are here because we invite them, and we need them. They are a key to economic health in many regions and industries. Many of them pay taxes and all contribute to local economies.
The opposition is really from lazy Americans who think the country owes them a free lunch (and dinner and ...), and see each immigrant not as a contributor but as another hand out for a slice of the free pie.
Fortunately the immigrants fo not see it like that: they are willing to take risks, work hard, and seek opportunity to help their family and get ahead. Those are core American values, and immigrants have always been the core.

No, you don''t understand economics. First, most of them do NOT pay taxes. In fact a VERY large portion of illegal immigrants do not pay income tax in any form. Second, Billions of dollars are lost each year to Mexico. Thats money out of our pockets because that money is going to Mexican business not business in the US. If you understood economics, you''d know that this is a VERY bad thing. And we do not invite them here. The US is inviting because of its freedoms and prosperity but there is no formal invitation. And I am all for them being here, IF they do it legally. Why can''t they just come in legally like so many others do and have done for decades? Why do you insist on failing to realize that they are breaking the law?legal or get out. - Reply to this comment
- The economy is near collapse now. The only reason this isn''t being seen as a depression is because the Republican owned and controlled media peopled with Conservatives is still calling this mess a "recession."
If there was no Bush wars, we''d be in even worst shape. All those people in the military would also be looking for jobs in an already bleak employment picture.
Food prices (helped by the low wages paid to many undocumented workers) are going to go up even more. Of course, with this Republican regime, gas will continue to push toward $6 per gallon.
Fabricating stories of dedicated workers draining the welfare system can only be seen is ignorant at best, and hate-based at worst. - Reply to this comment

- too funny still... a wall no one wants, to address a problem that is not real, at a cost that cannot be afforded, and in violation of too many environmental and conservation laws to list.
Yeah, not gonna happen. Just a ruse to appease a few ignorant haters and do some election year posturing.

Well, you just keep laughing with yourself, and then watch what happens when the people who really keep this country afloat do with the two bit politicians, drug dealers, illegal slaves, the ignorant, and the home grown freeloaders. Yet in the end, the very dumb ***** crying hate, will be the ones running to their so called haters, in order to save their sorry ***** from themselves. You''re welcome, in advanced. - Reply to this comment

- "no illegal immigrants in the US.."
that is true. A person, by definition cannot be illegal. A person who drives too fast is not an "illegal driver."
All immigrants are human and therefore legal. Whether any human has followed the laws at any point in time is a different question.
So no, there are no illegal immigrants.

Oh your one of those huh. Please grow up. Its not the person they are referring to as illegal, its their residency status. If they are not legally in the US then they are here illegally. Gees. Nice try though. - Reply to this comment

- The problem with fences, barriers, walls is that they have been used by governments to oppress, whether it is the Communists trying to keep people OUT of West Berlin, or in concentration camps as the U.S. did to the Japanese-Americans arrested and confined during WWII.
The German Communists were not trying to keep people in Germany; the borders to other countries were fairly porous. They didn''t want Germans going into West Berlin, which is deep in eastern Germany.
The German people wanted to go to West Berlin. They didn''t necessarily want to leave Germany.
The Berlin Wall was a definite wall to keep people out (of West Berlin).
In this case, and in reading some of the comments, this is big government (Republican style) at work playing to the worst in people. The fence will be costly, ineffective and will not keep U.S. employers from hiring workers.
What it is, is a symbol of oppression by a Republican party and a Con group of people playing to the worst elements in our society. What a waste of money and sorry state of affairs. - Reply to this comment

- Without undocumented workers this sorry economy would collapse.
They contribute a hundred fold more to this economy than they will ever take out. As stated, the economy would be in even a worse condition under the Republicans than it is now without these hard working and decent people.

LOL. Yeah our WHOLE economy depends on illegal aliens. Is that REALLY your argument? Don''t you understand economics? Billions of dollars a year are funneled OUT of our country into Mexico. Thats money thats NOT being spent in our grocery stores, dept stores, sporting events, gas stations, restaurants etc. That hurts our economy. And believe this, if we had 0 illegal aliens, someone would step in and do the jobs they are doing or employers would pay more to get people to take the jobs. Prices may jump a little but the savings to our economy would be tremendous. All of the sudden those workers are actually keeping the $ in the US where it boosts OUR economy and not Mexicos! - Reply to this comment
- Drilling offshore is just more money in GWBs pocket Remember he has his money invested in oil exploration! Not to mention it will be a drop in the bucket WHEN we get oil from offshore in 25 years! Dude YOU need to stop making stupid, ill informed statements about "congress" and get your facts straight before insulting others.

Yeah idiot. Same post 3 times and its still wrong on ALL counts. Why don''t you try and post something that hasn''t already been shown to be WRONG! 25YRS!! Omg..You think an Oil company is going to wait 25 years for that investment to pay off? Ridiculous. And answer my question. So we should NOT Drill for more oil just because you think Bush is going to make a profit off of drilling for more oil?? Explain THAT logic to me. Why do you care? Or is it that you don''t care enough about the REST of us to get over your petty hatred of Bush? - Reply to this comment
