Comments on: Has DC's Handgun Ban Prevented Bloodshed?
The Supreme Court Will Examine Ban's Constitutionality, Others Question Its Effectiveness

This would still leave states to restrict citizen carry laws off their property, outside of their autos, as the state sees fit. Keep in mind though, that still would leave the looney
left entities to make their childish gun laws, like requiring law abiding gun owners to transport their firearms outside their homes in a locked container with the word ''GUN'' in big white letters on the case (eg: Boulder, CO, Jan 17, 2001). Presumably this was so that their non-gun owning neighbors could be alerted to such a heinous threat so that they could start running around their home interiors, in circular desperation, hands flailing in the air, shrieking, until their law abiding but obviously evil gun-owning neighbor drove out of sight.
=======================
Otherwise, I have seen prior posts here mentioning 30,000 US citizens killed by guns every year. This is true, for 2004, but only to the extent that well over half of them are suicides. Liberals would have you believe that this group of suicide-by-gun individuals posses a unique genetic trait, such that if they do not have a gun then they will not commit suicide, EVER. Here is the actual CDC US mortality data for 2004:
By gun:
Suicide ........- 16,750
Homicide .......- 11,624
Accident .......- 649
Undetermined ...- 235
By other than gun:
Suicide ........- 15,689
Homicide .......- 5,733
Accidents ......- 111,363

By Accident other than gun:
Auto/Truck/etc .- 48,053
Falls ..........- 18,807
Drowning .......- 3,308
Fire/Smoke .....- 3,229
Poisoning ......- 20,950
Unspecified ....- 17,016
www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr55/nvsr55_19.pdf
Since almost 15,700 other individuals managed to commit suicide W/O a gun, liberals will have to provide genetic proof that these 16,750 individuals are a genetically unique group, somehow predisposed to ''Suicide-by-gun-or-Live''. Since they cant, I submit that common sense dictates otherwise, which leaves the honest number of 12,500, not 30,000.
So if you are worried about gun homicide you are over 4X more likely to die in a car accident than by gun homicide.
And if you are worried about a gun accident you are 5X more likely to die in a fire accident, 32X more likely to die of a poisoning accident, and 74X more likely to die in a car accident than by a gun accident.
=======================
But, that being said, I do not see why some common sense steps, possibly those outlined above, could not be taken to restrict access to both firearms and ammunition by criminals and the mentally unstable. The only problem is that all of this would require our liberal, conservative and independent representatives to come together and make it happen. Seeing all the other un-enforced laws they are already collectively responsible for, Im not holding my breath. - Reply to this comment
- Has anybody heard from my buddy ELCantante1? No gun stories for allmost a week, he may have hung himself, or jumped in front of a bus or over dosed on sleeping pills. I am worried about him.

- ubrew12 underestimates my training and other service members who have been trained like me. The Japanese have said one ninja is worth a thousand soldiers in battle. I believe my unit proved this phylosphy in Vietnam.

- The people who are advocating to take away our right tohave firearms, i ask you what are you afraid of ? If you are not a crimional committing a crime i have no intention of shooting you.

- The democrats clearly state their intention to pass a law so that ownership of firearms by individuals would be illegal. They are not intent on enfrcing existing laws to prevent criminals to have guns and for citizens to lawfully own and carry firearms. They want to take our guns from us. This is not my idea of a democracy and is not what i fought for. Guns do not kill, people kill so lets eliminate the criminals. Problem solved.

They refuse to accept facts. They only want to take away ouir rights to have handguns for protection. They do not respect our right to carry as we respect their right to choose not to carry. - Reply to this comment
- Some years ago, Florida passed a liberal gun law allowing law-abiding citizens to carry a gun. After that, crime and gun-related deaths went DOWN.
Does that tell you anti-gun nuts anything, or do you simply refuse to accept facts? - Reply to this comment
- I guess when someone cannot answer with an insult and have no logical retort they become quiet.

Those that underestimate are already defeated. Yes i have killed in war and the weight of those deaths i carry every day. I came back froim the war with a much better attitude. I do not wish to harm anyone, but i will protect myself ,my family and any innocent victim. I doubt you would do the same. - Reply to this comment

I am offering advice to help educate those who are cabable of learning. I go not belong to the NRA. I do not wish to harm or kill anyone, however i think i have te right to protct myself, my family and my property i worked hard to earn. If you do not wish to have a firearm that is your right and i respect that, do not try to take away my right to do so. I am retired military combat veteran, trained as an expert in the use of many weapons, 27 years martial arts, retired from law enforcement, and have a degree in criminology. What is your background ? Have you even served in the military in any capacity ? Have you ever seen the horrors of a crime scene ? Why do you believe only your point of view is valid and the rest of us are wrong ? In every state that has enacted a right to carry program the crime rate has decreased. The criminals do not want to attack someone who can defnd themselves. If you believe your idea will work , take a criminal home with you and rehabilitate him. I would like to know the results - Reply to this comment

I have found that people that start name calling are ignorant, uneducated and have a lack of vocabulary to express themselves in a rational manner - Reply to this comment
- From the criminals, YES. It has prevented a lot of criminals to continue their trade without losing a drop of blood.

From the criminals, YES. It has prevented a lot of criminals to continue their trade without losing a drop of blood.
From the unarmed victims, NO! THEIR blood is spilled on an almost daily basis. It has, however, prevented the victims from defending themselves and their families from criminals who will not obey the law. - Reply to this comment
- Ecveryone should know the democrats are planning on passing a law to take all guns away from law abiding citizens if they get into office in this election. That alone keeps me from voting for democrats, even though i am against the war in Iraq.

You are completely right. Until the public sees what you have seen in your careers they have no idea of what a criminal can do and how brutal crimes really are. I had a neighboir mudered by her bf, shot her 9 times point blkank, drove away and turned himself into the first police oficer he found. He was then allowd to plea to a charge of manslaughter, got 4 years served 18 months and was let out. The criminals know how to use the legal system. - Reply to this comment

What state do you live in ? I am moving back to Nevada so i can obtain a permit to carry. I know the law in California forbids a citizen from carrying a handgun and will not honor carry permits from other states. This is a major reason i would not live in California. - Reply to this comment
