Mary Vargas had mentioned that her unborn child had a fatal condition & chose a partial birth abortion for her child. It was never stated why she felt this was necessary. I'm curious what kind of disease her child had. The most common is a PUV. Many consider this fatal b/c the urethra is often blocked from making amniotic fluid/urinating.
My son had this condition. He was a miracle although we were told our pregnancy with him was not going to be viable; abortion was the best option. For 3 weeks in NICU we were told he would not make it. After 7 weeks he came home.
Most parents of PUV fetuses are told their unborn baby is unviable & give up on life. But there are MANY of us moms who chose life for our child, although for some it's short. Now many of our children are beautiful and normal (some have dialysis or transplant services, or even growth delays- nonetheless beautiful & fully functioning) My son is now 2, so alive you'd all fall in love with him.
I believe that because we honored & fought for his life, believing positively & praying hard, my son is now a testament to why the tendency to abort without hope is not right. He is also a testament to the power of a parent who believes in life. Our story: www.kmmurray.net/victoryunderpressure

The difference between "partial birth abortion" and murder is about 6 inches. If the baby's head happens to "slip out", the child is fully born. Can't anyone realize how barbaric this procedure is?

President Bush hailed the ruling, saying it affirms the progress his administration has made to defend the "sanctity of life."

"I am pleased that the Supreme Court has upheld a law that prohibits the abhorrent procedure of partial birth abortion," he said. "Today's decision affirms that the Constitution does not stand in the way of the people's representatives enacting laws reflecting the compassion and humanity of America."

Bush's compassion and humanity of America:

cut welfare for the poor

teen moms living on the street

Abu Gharib prisoner abuse

suspension of habeas corpus

Conceal-and-carry firearms

The ruling is huge, because the ban is now the first abortion restriction ever approved, with no exception for the health of the mother, said Andrews.

If the mothers life is at stake this provision ignores two individuals in preference for the unborn child, namely the mother and the father. It is there joint lives and they should be making this decision not the courts.

I think this just guaranteed a Democratic sweep in 2008. Way to go Supreme Court. A group of horribly out of touch men have now said that a Woman has no right to choose what happens to her own body.

For anybody who doesn't see anything "wrong" with partial-birth abortion, please take the time to read page 15 of today's decision by the Supreme Court, as pasted below. If this does not affect you, it's possible you do not have a soul, or a heart.

"Dr. Haskell went in with forceps and grabbed the
baby's legs and pulled them down into the birth canal.
Then he delivered the baby%u2019s body and the arms%u2014
everything but the head. The doctor kept the head
right inside the uterus. . . .
The baby's little fingers were clasping and unclasping,
and his little feet were kicking. Then the
doctor stuck the scissors in the back of his head, and
the baby's arms jerked out, like a startle reaction, like
a flinch, like a baby does when he thinks he is going to
fall.
The doctor opened up the scissors, stuck a highpowered
suction tube into the opening, and sucked the
baby's brains out. Now the baby went completely
limp. . . .
He cut the umbilical cord and delivered the placenta.
He threw the baby in a pan, along with the
placenta and the instruments he had just used."
Ibid.

Our nation would have been better off if Scalia, Roberts, Alito and Thomas had ALL been late term abortions.

Oh my gosh, we cant have governments telling women what they can do with their bodies, we cant have governments stopping women allowing Drs to split open a beautiful little defenceless babies head to kill it just before it is born, or to tear it out limb by limb, or to use salt to burn the baby until it dies a little time later in horrific pain.

All women have the right to do to their bodies what they want, yes, but not someone elses body....
Women have the right to make sure that they dont get pregnant in the first place but they dont have the right to take the life of someone else. But I supose justice is not ours, it appears that women who abort are more likely to get breast cancer. As an abortion is different to a mis-carriage where the body has allowed the baby to be misscarriaged...with an abortion the baby is suddenly pulled from the body.. I wonder if there would be a difference if they killed the baby then let the dead baby lie in the body till the body got rid of it.. I have seen photos of the head of aborted babies and some of them were so cute and pretty..Sadly, even though abortionist are supposed to be sure they stop the baby's heart with a direct injection of potassium chloride some
babies are aborted alive more often than is known...even to the mothers, and they are left to die.
Lets watch the fight from the abortion clinics, they will loose millions of dollars of they loose this fight.

The fact that the Court would uphold a ban on partial-birth abortion is not outrageous...many Constitutional rights are limited to some extent by court decisions (like incitement to riot or commercial speech not being protected by the First Amendment).

What is outrageous is that there was no exception for the health of the mother. It seems that Republicans favor the rights of the unborn over the life of adults, and I don't see how that could possibly jive with their rationale for banning abortion. But then again, they favor the death penalty as well. Maybe they're just hypocrites.

And here, we're supposed to believe that Supreme court justices are supposed to rule based on what is RIGHT instead of what their Party believes... riiiight..
