Question: If the reason for not voting for this bill is that it contains "pork projects" within it; why don't the Republicans reveal these pork projects by name, list them and give them to the public.
by chevyhotrod July 20, 2010 11:10 AM EDT Clinton did not balance anything, that is left to the House of Representative, just like Jefferson intended.
Who balance the budget during the Clinton years, or should I say who was in control of the House of Reps during the balance budget years.
--------
This is what I mean by not being a GOP lap dog. It makes you look silly.
Like giving the GOP credit for a balanced budget (which was due to second largest tax increase in our history) in this post. And then blaming Clinton for the final nail in the Glass Act during this same time in a previous post.
BTW, did you know TJ wanted Congress to have the power to remove SC judges for political reasons? LOL...how is that for "balance"?
The Republican response to people in need reinforces their long standing policy of keeping special interests happy while letting the unfortunate starve. This party became the champion of the corrupt long ago. Then they turned their backs on the American people and everyone is left to fend for themselves. Unemployment is a subsistance payment, not a replacement for the wages the workers have lost. They are not getting fat and rich but instead it slows their decline into bankruptcy in the hope that the economy will turn around. If the Republicans want people off of unemployment let them produce jobs. Unfortunately it is Republican policies that destroyed the economy so don't expect them to know anything about reversing our economic plight. Remember these folks at election time. There is no reason to support any group such as this which has turned it back on you and your neighbors when you need help the most.

What the USA needs now is socialism, socialism..it's the only thing that democrats know of....let's just keep spreading everyone else's money around...not our own.
Just a side note, guess what party the richest member of Congress belongs to...He is Democrat. In fact, 13 other members of Congress are also considered very, very wealthy--guess what party they belong to--Democrat. How what party has the rich peope in it??? DEMOCRATS
Once unemployment runs out, that should be it. As long as you keep extending it, some of the people will never go back to work. Minimum wage is $7.25, that's $58 a day , $290 a week. Why work for $290 a week when the government will pay you $309 a week not to work. It's time to set up work camps in all cities, instead of just giving these people $309 a week for nothing let them work a 40 hour week at minimum wage, $290. Work sites can be setup at city/county work places. A work master at these sites can assign people a job to do. At least tax payers will be getting something for their money. I think will see some of the people on unemployment get out and find a job. If not, they will have one at a work camp.
The Works Progress Administration (renamed during 1939 as the Work Projects Administration; WPA) was the largest New Deal agency, employing millions to carry out public works projects, including the construction of public buildings and roads, and operated large arts, drama, media, and literacy projects. It fed children and redistributed food, clothing, and housing. Almost every community in the United States had a park, bridge or school constructed by the agency, which especially benefited rural and Western populations. Expenditures from 1936 to 1939 totaled nearly $7 billion.[1] Created by order of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the WPA was funded by Congress with passage of the Emergency Relief Appropriation Act of 1935 on April 8, 1935. The legislation had passed in the House of Representatives by a margin of 329 to 78, but was delayed by the Senate.[1] The WPA continued and extended relief programs similar to the Reconstruction Finance Corporation (RFC), which was established by Congress in 1932 during the administration of Roosevelt's predecessor Herbert Hoover. Headed by Harry Hopkins, the WPA provided jobs and income to the unemployed during the Great Depression in the United States. Between 1935 and 1943, the WPA provided almost eight million jobs.[2] Until ended by Congress and war employment during 1943, the WPA was the largest employer in the country. Most people who needed a job were eligible for at least some of its jobs.[3] Hourly wages were the prevailing wages in each area; the rules said workers could not work more than 30 hours a week, but many projects included months in the field, with workers eating and sleeping on worksites. Before 1940, there was some training involved to teach new skills and the project's original legislation had a strong emphasis on training.
Of course the Republican version of this is the armed forces and the infrastructure improvements are in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
omega42, if we are going to pay the extended unemployment, this would be better. At least the tax payers would be something for their money. Better than paying someone not to work.
You are not living in the real world. Yes, while some folks will try and take advantage of the situation there are many place, like here in AZ where no jobs are available at any hourly rate. Please don't lump everyone into the same category. It says the average is $309.00 but it differs state by state. Here in AZ it is much lower. Please get your facts straight before you criticize everyone getting unemployment.
You are joking right? I was making close to 1000.00 a week. I've been working steady for 16 years. I lost my job when the company I worked for filed bankrupt in early 2009 due to the poor economy. I was getting 350 in UI benefits a week. Not nearly enough to cover my bills. I've exhausted my benefits, used up all of my savings, and will soon be on the streets. Your benefit amount is based on what you were making. If you were making minimum wage before, you were NOT getting 309 a week. And by the way.. IT IS NOT YOUR TAX DOLLARS, IT IS MINE TOO!!! I heard McDonalds was hiring, I went to apply and my application was put on the bottom of a stack that was about 3 inches thick. Guess what? I didn't get the job. Who complained about the billions and billions spent on bailouts? 'nuff said
chevyhotrod- Great post.. Can you libs read? Try it it will hopefully open your eyes. But I doub't. You peole can never admit when you're wrong. You just side step it.
