It's a sad state when any lobby group becomes more powerful than the electorate. If we banned lobbyists, superpacs, and instituted public financing, well who knows?
by inickat July 22, 2012 2:18 AM EDT Yamamoto said no such thing. He said, "I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant."
YOU'RE wrong too, inickat. Go to Wikipedia, and look at "Isoroku Yamamoto's sleeping giant quote".
It states: "The supposed quotation was abbreviated in the film Pearl Harbor (2001), where it merely read, "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant." There is no printed evidence to prove Yamamoto made this statement or wrote it down."
The people who like to shout their loyalty and love for the government from the rooftops are almost always the same people who think they need a home arsenal in addition to hunting rifles to make the government fear them. For some reason they think they can fight off the U.S. Army. These are the same people who like to characterize those who don't think they need to carry a gun to fight off the government as disloyal to the government.
As far as the latest massacre? If we don't get a handle on this and ban assault weapons and put some reasonable limits on gun ownership such as check-ups for past or present indications of mental health problems this will happen again and again.
If you're sane, safe, have no criminal record, a certificate to show that you've been trained in gun safety, and a ongoing check by the proper authorities for any incidents that might indicate you were involved in an accident that indicated failure to use gun safety rules or use of a gun to illegally hunt, I have no problem with you owning a gun.
He had an assault rifle, dreadnut. Assault rifles are not used for hunting game, they're used for hunting people. We need to ban ownership and destroy assault rifles when found. Not having an assault rifle would have slowed him down and maybe saved a few lives.
Americans have a love affair with guns, so many thousands of innocent people will continue to die at home, and in the countries you invade. It REALLY is that simple.
Most people comment on the gun issue Let's step off for a moment and reflect on the murdered, the fathers, mothers ,brothers, sisters, grandparents, friends whose lives were changed for all time in an instant . No one to hug, share love and share each other One individual who inflicted his Spite, selfishness and self loathing on all ,even a nation Think what he might have accomplished if he had turned that vileness into caring about others with love
Rid the nation once and for all by banning these military style weapons, which were only designed to kill PEOPLE! Anyone who thinks they can justify someone being able to buy body armor, grenades, automatic high powered military rifles and pistols is either a coward, a loser or a wannabe fool, or is on the take from the gun lobby!
In 2010 almost THIRTY THREE THOUSAND people died on the nations roads and highwys ! Thats about 90 people a day who die a violent death in the US. I don't hear too much about stricre "car control" ! In fact Obama bailed out GM and pandered to the UAW in the process. If Big Rig trucks were removed from the highways and we got back to trains for shipping long distance , the roads would be safer and we could "go modern" with lighter, more fuel efficient and safer cars.
Big Rigs may not be the direct cause of a large percentage of deadly crashes, but people like driving bigger heavier cars as a defense against trucks. A modern freight train can move 1 ton of freight 500 miles on one gallon of diesel vs 7 gallons on a truck. Its way past overdue for the US to start working smarter ! As tragic as the incident in Colorado was, another 90 people, more or less, are going to die today on the nations highways and I don't see one word being said about it on any of the networks. The daily bloodbath has just become business as usual .Time to reform ground transport in the US and get into the 21st century ! However, the UAW, the Teamsters, the oil companies , and whole host of other special interest groups would have to be dragged kicking and screaming into a common sense future.

Thank You Jesus.

There are other pages for posting about those left behind in this tragedy.
No,let's NOT! Let's stick to the subject, OK?

Guns ,Drugs
Sadly,Sadly it will find its own equilibrium
Doesn't have to be that way
Now add in texting and people talking on cell phones while driving and you think the deadly crash rate will go down by removing 18-wheelers?
America has 17 times the population of Australia.
America has 370 times the gun related deaths of Australia.
Australia has gun control.
America has the N.R.A.
Gun related death rates per 100,000 of populataion
America 10.27.
Australia 2.94
Only a complete idiot could not fail to see that gun control works
LOL!
17 x 2.94 = 49.98
Only a complete idiot does not know how to multiply.
The Irony

I'm not going to say anything else but to quote you.
LOL!
Chicago and the State of Illinois has the toughest gun control on the planet.
The Irony.
