I guess when dems promise they will not raise your taxes they mean until they are elected. Brown is trying to raise taxes in 10 different areas including the sales tax which is already the highest in the country. And the folks in California could have had women as a governor who understands what it takes to run a large business and could have turned CA around. Sad poor folks are the ones who are going to suffer the most because of Brown's incompetence.
Although the state sales tax in California at 7.25% is the highest in the country by .25%, the combined local & state sales tax is only the 12th highest in the country.
Schools were paid for until Proposition 13 in 1978, California was in the top 5 ranking and due to funding restrictions sunk lower over the years.
Since Proposition 13 limited property tax revenues, more of the money had to come from the state, this is why it gets tough to balance the state budget, a larger proportion goes to schools to make up for less from property revenue.
4 police sergeants in my California town of 60,000 people made more money last year than the chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. If a tax increase is required, it's at the Federal level, not the state. The Feds have been cutting and cutting and cutting taxes, committing economic suicide. the State has not been doing this. What do the cops in this town do? I'm trying to fend off diabetes by exercise, riding bicycles and walking. The cops took my picture twice riding a bicycle. they put an article in the paper with the headline "If you see bicyle riders in your area, call the cops." They coined a phrase according to the local paper of "SOBS" for Scum on bicycles. I'm a Democrat, but I'm a no vote on more money for cops. We have too many the way it is. If the governor would have let the 3 proposals stand, I would have voted for more taxes for teachers. But since it will mean more cops, the way it's presently written, it's no vote from this retired Nuclear Engineer and 14 gallon blood donor.
Gov Brown must be nucking futs. He thinks the California people are his personal ATM. We are already over taxed. First of all, he threatens the Education (schools) and The Police, fire departments with cut backs. How many times do we have to hear that. Those are easy targets to get the public's attention.
Secondly, get rid of some of the entitlement programs, aid to illegal immigration, How much money we spend on Illegal immigrants? Count all the services they use, Medical, Medi-Cal,Police, Fire schooling, not to mention the additional stress to our infrastructure, IE, crime, traffic, hospital facilities,
California needs an outside auditor track and help GET RID OF GOVERNMENT waste, How many state buildings are empty? How many high priced administrator in the school system do we really need. How much money is being wasted in our criminal Justice system?
Make California more attractive to corporations. The number of Corporation leaving California is alarming. They take jobs and tax money with them when they leave, doh!
I believe Brownie wants Obama reelected, so that Obama can bailout the land of the fruits and nuts!
Greater minds than mind have to figure this out. Tax upon tax is not the answer.
We have abdicated our responsibility to one another, our society and our posterity. As long as we get our tax cut, who cares about what it paid for? This is insane, we're already paying for it and it's going to get worse.
