Supreme Court Nominee Avoided Taking Clear Stands on Many Issues; New Haven Firefighter Ricci Testifies Against Her

I know this is hard to believe, but rowdy's got the facts wrong about this.
Major Cook wasn't given orders to go to Afghanistan - he VOLUNTEERED to go. Therefore, he didn't have to file suit to get out of going, he just had to change his mind, and when he did file suit, the army just said, OK, you don't have to go. Unfortunately for him, he was being used by the birdbrain lawyer Orly Taitz, to pursue her political agenda. Ms. Taitz "neglected" to inform him that if you're a defense contractor, you can't file suit against the army and keep your job with the DOD. Oopsie!
As far as wether he volunteered or not I have no Idea but if he did volunteer he would still have been given official orders. As far as not being able to file suit against the government if you work for a contractor that is incorrect. His position with the contractor is as a private citizen and he has all the rights thereof. If he was fired because of the suit then he has a legitimate suit for that. And don't tell me I am wrong. I am retired Navy and work for a military contractor. - Reply to this comment

- Earlier today, Army public affairs officer Lt. Col. Quon said Cook submitted a formal written request to Human Resources Command-St. Louis on May 8, 2009 volunteering to serve one year in Afghanistan with Special Operations Command, U.S. Army Central Command, beginning July 15, 2009. The soldier's orders were issued on June 9, Quon said.
"A reserve soldier who volunteers for an active duty tour may ask for a revocation of orders up until the day he is scheduled to report for active duty," Quon said.
So, the suit to revoke his orders was not "whistle blowing" - it was purely a political stunt. Therefore, they can, and did, request that he not work for the Department of Defense in any capacity.

- She does'nt give clear answers on many issues, yet she draws praise from both sides. Very typical of the politians agenda and we allow these type to lead us. No wonder we're such a screwed up nation.

- SENATE CONFIRMATION HEARING OF SOTOMAYOR REPETITIOUS RACE-BAITING BY REPUBLICANS
Sen. Sessions race-baiting is one that we all should take note of. As it seems in his case, water always returns to its level. Session will never change"and thank God he never succeeded in getting to the bench. The problem with those who shout bias against others is that they are unable to see the "plank" in their own eyes. Sessions is informed by racial prejudice. How can he as "Ranking Member" of the Senate Judiacy Committee resist not allowing his ideological and cultural experiences to influence his questioning of Judge Sotomayor? When he says he wants judges who are "neutral," what he really means is that he wants judges who would agree with his world view that views women, ethnics and other minorities as less equal than others no matter their accomplishments and even not desirable. His attacks have focused on a narrow frame, ignoring empirical evidence of balance that can easily be derived from Judge Sotomayor's actual decisions in court. He chose to forget or ignore what other sitting US Supreme Court justices (Scalia, Alitio, for example) appointed by Republican Presidents said about the influence of culture and experience during their confirmation hearings. Republicans must be reminded that on the issue of "empathy" President George H.W. Bush said about the same thing as Obama-referencing its relevance. Wisdom tells us that it is; ideological demagogoury says otherwise. On this, we must be continously reminded of the famous adage that "justice must be tempered with mercy." - Reply to this comment

http://www.docstoc.com/docs/8561112/Warren-Buffett-blasts-system-that-lets-him-pay-less-tax-than-secretary
"Mr Buffett said that he was taxed at 17.7 per cent on the $46 million he made last year, without trying to avoid paying higher taxes, while his secretary, who earned $60,000, was taxed at 30 per cent."
When Buffett offered $1million to any CEO that paid at a higher rate than their secretaries, nobody came forward. Basic tax rates bedammed, what they end up paying is what matters.
When the wealthy routinely pay a lower functional rate, exacerbated by phony conservative govt "control", THAT is an Entitlement.
Gonna talk about your wife instead, now?
And as I told you before I don't buy it. Someone making $60K a year does not pay %30. And any cleaning woman that is paying more than 17.7% as buffet also claimed in the story is a cleaning lady making a lot of money. And like I said before I made $98K and paid just under 10%. Buffet is talking out of his a.s.s. and exagerating. His claim that he didn't try to avoid paying higher taxes is B.S. because you know he uses an accountant and they do all they can to avoid paying taxes. - Reply to this comment

- You're guessing and wishful thinking-out-loud. My experience is more in line with the Buffett claim. And i could be lying, just like you could.
Try a legitimate source.
- Yeah, that sounds suspect to me too.. My understanding of the statistics are as follows, and I got this from a macroeconomics textbook published 3 months ago:
Divide america into fie groups by income. The poorest 20% to the richest
In order from poor to rich, 1-5,these are the RATES OF TAX AS A PERCENTAGE OF INCOME paid to IRS, on average
1:(poorest) Fed 7.9% State taxes 11.8%
2: Fed 11.4% State 11.9%
3: Fed 15.8% 11.2%
4: Fed 18.7% State 11.0%
5: Take the richesst 20%, and divide into three more groups.
--The first 15%, the next 4%, and finally THE RICHEST 1%
And you get
5.1 21.1% Fed 10.5% State
5.2 Fed 22.5% 9.7% state
and 5.3, the richest one percent of americans, pay:
24.6 % to the feds and 8.2% to their state
Now these are averages, and they dont account for corporations stocks bonds etcetc
This is federal income tax...
Interesting, no?
..for what it's worth...
- According to the Non-Partisan Congressional Budget Office website http://www.cbo.gov/doc.cfm?index=10068, the Effective Federal Income Tax Rate for the last tabulated period 2006 was 9.1%.
The Effective Federal Income Tax Rate is what the Average American pays After all Deductions and Credits.
If you include Social Security, Medicare, Gasoline and many other Federal Taxes, the Effective Combine Federal Tax Rate is 20.7%. This is the lowest of all the Industrial and Developed Nations.
In fact, according to the former House Majority leader Dick Anmey, R-Texas, whose conservative group FreedomWorks setup Tea Parties around the country this past April 15, 2009, said to the Washington Post that "...the tax rate right now is at a good level."
We can pay down our $13 Trillions Federal Debt by just raising our Effective Tax Rate to Average.
SO, Americans are the most Lazy, Selfish and Irresponsible Taxpayers of the World.

- Actually if a "white" male had said that as "a wise latina he might better understand the problems that "white" males don't", not only would it be funny as all get out, but it would also be the closest that a "white" politician has ever come to the truth.

Meanwhile, Major Stefan Cook who filed suit to stay his orders to Afghanistan because he thinks the orders are illagal because Obama is not in fact a constitutionally qualified president of the United States....Obama pulled his orders so he wouldn't have to face him in court, and then through the DOD took his job with a DOD contractor away, which is illegal.
I know this is hard to believe, but rowdy's got the facts wrong about this.
