To judge a person by how he/she looks is stupid. History is full of people who would never win a beauty contest but are remembered for their greatness. One example is President Abraham Lincoln; another is Einstein; another is Jack Palance who won an Oscar.

Nobody is judging her by her looks...they're simply commenting on the tired cow look...we leave the looks issue to misogynic liberals who judged Clinton and Palin as bimbo's because they happened to have some pleasant looks....

However people ARE judging her on a record she clearly doen't have...when 81% of her SCOTUS referrals have been overturned because she didn't apply the written law to it.
by gangesdak July 14, 2009 11:26 AM EDT
But they are men!
by irishpat183 July 14, 2009 12:10 PM EDT
I have no clue why liberals call Repubs, "Fascist". Look up that word...it aligns far more favorable with the extreme left. It's just "uneducated" morons use it to "stick it to the man". When in fact the very government they voted for (democrats) is in fact, "The man". A government saturated with social programs and control over everything by not allowing personal freedom is what defines "fascists". Get your facts together.

"81% of her SCOTUS referrals have been overturned because she didn't apply the written law to it." -- IthoughtIwasFunny-BS!

You are LYING again! She, and the other judges on the appellate court, applied the written law! The Supreme Court CHANGED THE LAW. That's what they do! They overturn at least part of nearly EVERY CASE THEY HEAR!! They just refuse to hear any case they don't want to overturn.

You effing imbeciles are trying to stir up fear based on NOTHING! You don't have any real case against Sotomayor. She WILL be confirmed. All you are doing is stirring up the hatred and fear of ignorant or mentally ill people, many of whom have guns. Are you trying to start a violent revolution? To overthrow that duly elected government of the United States of America? W/T-F is wrong with you, anyway?

You are liar and a fool. A deliberately ignorant imbecile who just can't stop spreading lies. And you represent a TINY MINORITY of the population of this country... and the numbers are shrinking day by day.
by ErrorInUse July 14, 2009 10:57 AM EDT
Oh my God. I cannot believe I am reading what endurob and TheMasses have written. Take away all the media hype around this very able judge (not woman, not Latina) and you will see she applies the law soundly with the information she has and as it should be applied. And what racial views does she have? She has not said ANYTHING either racially insensitive or divisive at all. However, your posts show you to be bigots.

Well, NO she hasn't...81% of her cases have been overturned by the SCOTUS because she either hasn't a clue about Constitutional law...or she deliberately intended to ignore Constitutional law...

Her record stands as FACT!
by xlib July 14, 2009 11:18 AM EDT
So why were so many of her rulings overturned? How do you explain her rulings on the firefighter case?
Try this, turn her "wise latina" statement around and have something similar be said by,oh, Justice Thomas? OK, right?
by drputt45 July 14, 2009 11:25 AM EDT
OMG, play the race card when it suits you. There is nothing in the posts regarding race except Somayor's own comments. (And, of course your comments).

80% of her thousands of cases DID NOT GET OVERTURNED BY THE SCOTUS!!! Rushed LimpBalls says that, so I know where you get your "information", but all that means is you are you are one big effing IGNORAMOUS.

Of the tiny percentages of cases she, and a panel of judges on the apellate court, ruled on -- of those few cases, 60 to 80% were overturned. Well, guess what, ignorant imbecile? THE SUPREME COURT OVERTURNS ALMOST EVERY LOWER COURT RULING THAT THEY HEAR. If they don't want to overturn it, they just refuse to hear the case!!!

See?? This does NOT mean that she "she either hasn't a clue about Constitutional law...or she deliberately intended to ignore Constitutional law." What is means is that she ruled according to the law as it stood at the time of the ruling, THEN the Supreme Court CHANGED THE LAW with their ruling. That's what the SC does!!

Your ignorance is astounding, IThoughtItWasFunnyNOPE! (And you were NEVER "funny", just stupid.)

It's a hard sentence to get right, I see why the mental defectives can't understand the truth and prefer the lie.

Those that complain most loudly about racism are those who most likely engage in that evil practice in their personal lives.

by IThoughtItWasFunnyNOPE July 14, 2009 11:15 AM EDT

Nice try, but your math skills are evidently even poorer than your (so-called) 'logic".

She wrote 380 majority opinions during her 11 years on the appeals court. Of those 380 opinions, the Supreme Court heard five of the cases and overturned her on three.

So, out of 380 majority opinions: 5 cases heard = 1.3% (which means that more than 98% of her opinions were allowed to stand WITHOUT QUESTION), and 3 cases overturned = less than.8% of the 380 total.

As usual, you are nothing but a lying, misinformed diot!

Judge Sotomayor has been completely HONEST. Her positions have not changed radically. She is NOT lying. You idiot repukes deliberately twist reality, by taking one sentence out of context, failing to understand that one sentence, and then condeming a good person as a "racist" merely because that is what your MASTERS have told you to do. You are incapable of thinking for yourselves. "Rush Limpballs says it, so it has to be true" is your guiding principle.

Sotomayor is more qualified than anyone else on the SC now. She is far more conservative than any other judge you are going to get. She was nominated for her current position by REPUBLICANS, and she has already been thoroughly vetted and confirmed.

Why you idiots want to rant and rail, spewing LIES which make you all look like imbeciles, is a mystery to me. The GOP is down to 20%, and dropping off a cliff. Buh Bye!

Not everybody thinks the way you do. Lots of people in power actually tell the truth. (Especially when they know that everybody with a computer will 'google' their every word.).
by jclark7613 July 14, 2009 10:47 AM EDT
It's unfortunate she would have to explain this comment again. It's not racial. She was pointing out that because of her background and the place she has came from gives her a better understanding then a white male that has not lived that life. Anyone the believes that is racial is ignorant. I'm not hispanic but I understand her. Of course she would have a better understand and if people don't realize that then so what. She will be confirmed....

You sound just like a typical democrap, and it wasn't racial what she did to the White and Hispanic firefights right? Her answer was a expected "that's not what I meant" Which is nothing but a lie it could be only be understood one way she showed her arogance and racial views more the once.
by xlib July 14, 2009 11:16 AM EDT
So based on your reasoning, Justice Thomas could have said "that as a wise black man who comes from share croppers and who lived in poverty and who had to overcome racism......." so on and so forth, that would have been just fine-RIGHT??
And what she said is not racism but someone having the AUDACITY to question her, they are racist? You people are just so funny!

Yes.
by Henri_Rochard July 14, 2009 11:47 AM EDT
I agree with jclark7613. Sotomayor's comment is pretty much the same as when Sarah Palin described herself as a 'pit bull with lipstick'.
by nolalou July 14, 2009 3:08 PM EDT
Senator Sessions tried to jump on this, but he had no problems when he was on the committee when Justice Alito was being confirmed. He said at the time that due to his Italian heritage, and discrimination his grandparents suffered, it would have an impact on any cases dealing with immigration or discrimination! How is that different from what Sonia Sotomayor said? of course people with different backgrounds are going to be influenced by that! The court is not made up of robots!
by iam4honesty July 14, 2009 7:55 PM EDT
Funny sheit!!!

Republicans are shooting themselves in the foot again!!

Go ahead, wring your hands, repeat over and over "Oh Woe Is Me".

This is one voice on the SCOTUS. Even if she wanted ot slant policy infavor of latinos... she couldn't!

RIP

She was married to a white guy for 8 years... I think she know what shes talking about....

It's not her face I am concerned with it is her racial views I don't like.

This woman is flat our LYING...she expressed her sentiments exactly already 7 times that she thinks because she is a Latino woman she can make BETTER decisions than white males...

It's too late to change her story NOW....
by rafterman1 July 14, 2009 11:35 AM EDT
We have been electing racists and semi-racist whites for the last 200 years and now suddenly, that minorities are starting to gain power, you are concerned with "racial views" of a candidate. LOL.
by irishpat183 July 14, 2009 12:02 PM EDT
Wow. Is this how you people talk to others?? Or do you just us internet boards to call people names?? Talk about cowards. "pubsnomore" and "imprisionrove" what chumps. You're both probably in your late 30's, living in mom's basement off food stamps and praying for socialized health care. Good God.

And to "rafterman1" to imply that "we've been electing racists and semi-racists whites for 200 years" means that you're grouping all of them together. So if you're white and you're in office...you're a racists? Clinton was a racist? Oh, he wasn't, but republican whites are? And yes, anybody that uses race to make a decision or base their decision has no place on the supreme court.

I'd like to know where the right's outrage was when Justice Alito said "When I get a case about discrimination, I have to think about people in my own family who suffered discrimination because of their ethnic background or because of religion or because of gender. And I do take that into account."

My football team is better than yours.
My Church is better than yours.
My car brand choice is better than yours.

My high school is better than yours.
My house is in a better town and state than yours.
My dogs breed is better than yours.
My music taste is better than yours.

My DNA is better than yours because I am best !

You never changed your mind, Rowdy???? say no and that makes you a liar.
You biggest problem with this person is that 'President Obama' chose her. If McPain had won and chose her, you would be singing her praises. "Say 'no' and that will make you a LIAR again."
by BeckieBest July 14, 2009 11:00 PM EDT
It's funny to watch a bunch of racists accuse her of of being racist.
by stn_sage July 14, 2009 11:22 PM EDT
First, it's not a 'beauty contest', buddy! It's for a court position.

Second, I'm waiting to hear about how she totally ignores the law in court proceedings! Or, how she's terribly bungled rulings on several lawsuits! Or, how she has some terrible personal habits like she has an extensive, pornographic tape library or gropes law clerks!

But, so far I haven't seen anything like this! In fact, the BIGGEST complaint against her is some hasty, smart-aleky comment she made, known as the 'wise latina' comment!

IF this is the BIGGEST complaint AGAINST this judge, the GOP Senators
opposing her ALL ought to be CENSURED for obstructionism, because it stinks of RANK, PARTISAN REPUBLICAN POLITICS! The kind that has killed the U.S. in twelve of the last fourteen years!
