- You point means what? What does the President and his Agenda have to do with the Devil and Bush/Cheney? Decisions have to be made. If those decisions are wrong then someone must decide to pursue them or not. According to OUR Constitution and LAWS, that is the JOB, independent of other's, of the Attorney General. This ISN'T rocket science people. Just because the Department of Justice became a Political Arm of the Bush Administration does NOT mean the New Attorney General can't function as he's supposed too.
- Before anyone attempts to defend members of the Bush administration for torture of suspects they should read U.S. Code: Title 18: Part 1: Chapter 113c: Sections 2340 for a specific definition of the act of torture:
(1) ?torture? means an act committed by a person acting under the color of law specifically intended to inflict severe physical or mental pain or suffering (other than pain or suffering incidental to lawful sanctions) upon another person within his custody or physical control;
(2) ?severe mental pain or suffering? means the prolonged mental harm caused by or resulting from?
(A) the intentional infliction or threatened infliction of severe physical pain or suffering;
(B) the administration or application, or threatened administration or application, of mind-altering substances or other procedures calculated to disrupt profoundly the senses or the personality;
(C) the threat of imminent death; or
(D) the threat that another person will imminently be subjected to death, severe physical pain or suffering, or the administration or application of mind-altering substances or other procedures calculated to disrupt profoundly the senses or personality; and
(3) ?United States? means the several States of the United States, the District of Columbia, and the commonwealths, territories, and possessions of the United States.
Chapter 2340A states:
a) Offense.? Whoever outside the United States commits or attempts to commit torture shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both, and if death results to any person from conduct prohibited by this subsection, shall be punished by death or imprisoned for any term of years or for life.
(b) Jurisdiction.? There is jurisdiction over the activity prohibited in subsection (a) if?
(1) the alleged offender is a national of the United States; or
(2) the alleged offender is present in the United States, irrespective of the nationality of the victim or alleged offender.
(c) Conspiracy.? A person who conspires to commit an offense under this section shall be subject to the same penalties (other than the penalty of death) as the penalties prescribed for the offense, the commission of which was the object of the conspiracy.
Section 2340B, reads:
Nothing in this chapter shall be construed as precluding the application of State or local laws on the same subject, nor shall anything in this chapter be construed as creating any substantive or procedural right enforceable by law by any party in any civil proceeding.
It is past time for the Justice Department to issue arrest warrants for every member of the Bush administration who sat in on this meeting where it was authorized.
Cheney admits authorizing detainee's torture
David Edwards and Stephen C. Webster

Monday, outgoing Vice President Dick Cheney made a startling statement on a nation-wide, televised broadcast.
When asked by ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl whether he approved of interrogation tactics used against a so-called "high value prisoner" at the controversial Guantanamo Bay prison, Mr. Cheney, in a break from his history of being press-shy, admitted to giving official sanctioning of torture.
"I supported it," he said regarding the practice known as "water-boarding," a form of simulated drowning. After World War II, Japanese soldiers were tried and convicted of war crimes in US courts for water-boarding, a practice which the outgoing Bush administration attempted to enshrine in policy.
"I was aware of the program, certainly, and involved in helping get the process cleared, as the agency in effect came in and wanted to know what they could and couldn't do," Cheney said. "And they talked to me, as well as others, to explain what they wanted to do. And I supported it."
He added: "It's been a remarkably successful effort, and I think the results speak for themselves."
ABC asked him if in hindsight he thought the tactics went too far. "I don't," he said.
Evidence that President Bush himself was aware of and approved of the illegal tactics was revealed by the man himself. - Reply to this comment

- You went to some work here to make your point! Nice job!
But, you still know two things are 'locked in'!
First, that in spite of how obvious it is that Bush/Cheney have broken the law, according to the legal code itself, their supporters will STILL deny it!
Second, in the long-run, nothing will still be done about it! So, Holder and other appointees don't mind 'waving the flag' of morality for all to see, because they know, in the end, the flag will be 'rolled up' and put back in it's case! Sad, but true!

- I believe this will complicate the President's agenda but as important as I believe healtcare reform and the other priorities are, I believe this is more important.
I respect Mr. Holder, and I trust him to do the right thing. I realize the idea of an Attorney General who is not a lapdog of the White House is a remarkable concept these days, but Mr. Holder is acting exactly as an Attorney General should.

- Don't be foolish. Holder would never do this if it wasn't strongly suggested by Obama. What you see going on here is during the first 6 months Obama told the GOP that if they cooperated he would quitely sweep all the illegal stuff under the rug. Well, the GOP has not cooperated and is threatening to scotch Obama's healthcare agenda. So, Obama is sick and tired of fooling around, and he's getting out the big guns.
In about 3 months Obama will have enough to prosecute Bush and Cheney and jail them. Then he will offer the GOP one last chance to cooperate on his agenda. If they refuse then Bush and Cheney will go to jail and it will utterly destroy the Republican Law & Order party. I predict that around that time you will see the GOP quietly supporting the Obama healthcare plan, despite what they publically say.
- If the democrats pass a mandatory health care plan this country will be ruined,,,,the problem with health care is that there are no rule for that industry to play by,,,they make them up as they wish,,,, there is no way people can afford to pay the high costs when the only factor making them so expensive,,,IS GREED. It is just a simple ploy by corporate America to get every penny you have BEFORE you die....because we all know the FDA is letting them poison us anyway with all the high dollar drugs that get recalled after they make a few hundred billion off them......makes you wonder with all the recent recalls ....how much R&D did they really do on them when they CLAIMED they spent billions? The whole industry is based on lies deception and corruption,,,the worst part of it is.....if you have enough money you can get a better price,,,,,than if you have insurance or none.

- What the h*e*l*l* is there to consider?! This should have been on his 'Top Twenty' list of things to-do when he came into office!
While poll numbers have come down for this, at one time the vast majority
of people thought it SHOULD be done!
But, it's another issue that the federal politicians have chosen NOT to do what the public wanted, like getting out of Iraq immediately, or not bailing out Wall Street, or single-payer health care, or not bailing out the banks on derivatives, or---you name it, we want it and they protect their corporate MASTERS! - Reply to this comment
