Once again a member of the Religious Right and the Morals Police has been caught with his pants down. That's the problem with the morals police, they have no morals themselves.

It is very hard to feel any symphathy for Sanford. When Clinton finally admitted to the Lewinsky affair, Sanford was a Congressman and was a leading advocate of Clinton's impeachment based on moral grounds. Now, he is caught in the same delima but maintains that same standard does not apply to him. Why not? No explanation yet.

Also, the people of SC should be advised who paid for Sanford's round trip to Argentina and his expenses while there.

I absolutely agree. Where is Sanfors'd moral outrage at his own behaviour? Abandoning his family on Father's Day to go see his mistress! Based on his own "moral" standards, he should resign as governor immediately. What's good for the goose...

Where are the criminal investigations? This person, who some saw as a possible Presidencial candidate has been consorting with a/unknown number of Foreign Nationals for 8 years! Has his sexual urges comprimised State or National security?

I have news for you. It's not a Republican thing. It's not a Democrat thing. It's just human nature. We are animals, and having six is a natural thing for all animals to do.

Is this what you were saying when it was Bill Clinton it is not a Republican thing it is not a Democrat thing.

The problems is the Republicans want it both ways they want to be able to get away with this and say it is private but when the shoe is on the other foot they want it to be open and impeach and remove and all the other nonsense that goes along with it.

This is not about sex it is about hypocrocy and that is a lie upon a lie NO EXCUSE.

Yeah? How many "Animals" do you know who have sold Snake Oil to the small minded American Taliban for votes? LOL Yes it is HUMAN as SO MANY American's tried to tell the American Taliban and the fanatic Right during the Clinton embarrassment! We have NO business involving ourselves in the Private Lives of these or any other people. It became stylish to do such things when the Republican's merged with the Jerry Falwells of this planet. When you act like pimps you better be prepared for the fall out!

What if it turns out "Maria" is really Sonia Sotomayor ?

That would really throw a monkey wrench in things.

This says it all:

South Carolina's governor once cited "moral legitimacy" when he was a congressman voting for President Bill Clinton's impeachment. He became a darling of fiscal conservatives over his ideological opposition to federal stimulus cash.

Now Mark Sanford has taken a swan dive from the moral high ground.

The republican'ts have taken HYPOCRISY to new limits!

Sure would, but then, we should hire Sotomayor if that is the case. Because any woman who can be in Argentina with Sanford and appear in public and before Congress all at the same time--deserves not only to be a judge but to rule the universe. duh.....

"Sanford... said he spent the last five days "crying in Argentina."

=====================================

That's even worse than apologizing in Europe.

Spitzer resigned when he got caught. What are you goona do, Mark Sanford?

Small difference, Spitzer was banging a prostitute. Sanford was banging a mistress. Last time I checked just cheating on your spouse is not illegal, paying for it is. Oh well, his days are numbered anyway.

So Barack Obama wasn't the only politician swept off his feet by a wise Latina woman.

Maria may indeed be a "wise Latina woman" then again..as an Argentinian--she just may be a direct descendant of transplanted Nazi German stock.
by zonkzilla June 25, 2009 8:38 AM EDT
"You shall reap what you sow"
"Judge not lest you be judged".
Which is why I am not going to make the same mistake and trash Sanford. He was fair game when he was hiding it and lying about where he was and doing the disappearing act but now that has changed.
Now that sanford has made it public and apologized it is a personal matter between him, his family, and the woman in Argentina, and none of my business.
Be careful putting yourself up as the morality judge like people did with Clinton or the same thing that happened to Sanford might happen to you.
Karma!

This may be more than a moral issue. This person some thought might aspire to the presidency was cavorting with a Foreign National. She could very likely be operating as an agent for her country or others. I personally don't care how many times he acted on his "needs". I want him investigated to see if he gave away any State or Natinoal secrets.
by apple2pie June 25, 2009 12:39 PM EDT
Sanford has not made his affair public of his own accord..the press has made it public in spite of HIS attempts to keep it secret. If he had come out and admitted his sin without being forced to, then I agree it would be just a private thing. And, we are all morality judges..if we didn't judge we would have IQs less than 3 year olds. It is plain SUPERSTITION to think that judging Sanford's actions will rebound on us....How many millions of people judged Clinton publically and privately for being a hypocrit, and haven't had an affair much less been unmercifully treated for any similar kind of sin???
