- No, it was "yesterday" (when I posted) that they received the letter. Get your head out of your rear and look at the facts.

- The last I heard the LVPD and the FBI had never heard about this story of blackmail. It was news to them. It is a felony to extort money. Which only leaves one to wonder how truthful Ensign is being? So now we have the 3rd version floating around of the story. It's hard to say how many more he will come up with before it's over. No one would probably have said much about it if Ensign wasn't such a holier-than-thou hypocrite about it. He was the first to condemn Clinton for having an affair. Ensign set himself up for ridicule by condemning numerous others for what he as obviously been doing for years. What I read this isn't the first time he has been in affair. This is typical Republican family values. Maybe I should say complete lack of any morals!

- These guys (power/money men) still think that women can't resist them and as a result they fall on their backs, or knees, out of admiration and unconditional love. When I was five years old I knew there was something expected to be exhanged for little Jane's affections. That lesson has stood firm for all history. It is called trade.

- Two consenting adults or three , as the case may be, and it's no one else's business, whether he's a senator or the President.

Ensign was the one who couldn't keep it in his pants. anything to deflect the criticism from where it rightfully belongs. talk about hard up.

- SO! He didn't actually voluntarily come forward, he came forward because the women's husband was going to hold him accountable and make him pay for his adultery! Literally!
And, this fine example of Republican 'family values', morality, and ethics plans on remaining in the Senate? Well---
I think the public will have a lot to say about that! And what they decide may NOT coincide with his plans, so HE'LL have to change his! - Reply to this comment
- TV preachers & politicians have very high expenses for their sex lives-is that why so much $ has to be donated ?-When some of these bimbos are shown ,the donors do not often get their moneys worth-Ensign laid out close to half a million for a 46 year old married temp.-that "Queen" Swaggert had was not worth 2 $!

- So now we hear that Ensign double his mistress's salery, gave her husband a job, then gave him another job from his big campaign contributer's Aligent Airlines company CEO's, gave the 19 year old son a job as a Republican policy expert, the husband confronted Ensign in front of Ok Senator Colburn. All you Republican campaign contributers gave your money to Ensign for engaging in an affair with a married women, he is married too. This guy should resign right now...he's a sham, a scammer a liering and a cheat. Ensign's wife should throw his butt OUT the door. Republican't , the party of greedy, corrupt politicans..Democan'ts party, just as bad and all this Congress and the last Congress have brought our country to it's knees.. Our United States in Not United anymore. All because of the leadership of George Bush, Ronald Regean, George Bush Sr..and that lying cheat Bill Clinton. It was because of Clinton that Al Gore lost the election and that this illegal war in Iraq was allowed to take place, now thousands of people have died..how does Clinton sleep at night..Was a tangled web....

- They explained it yesterday -- do a little research. In fact, they explained it BEFORE it became news on the MSM.

- If you live by the sword, you die by it. Ensign was self-righteous enough to beat up on Bill Clinton for having an affair outside of his marriage...and then he did the same thing himself. He postures himself as a defender of the so-called "sanctiity" of marriage...and then he not only cheats on his wife in his own marriage, he violates someone else's marriage by cheating with a married woman. On top of all that, she was a member of his staff. You can't defend that by saying that he was separated from his wife, so somehow it's not so bad. What he did is a betrayal of everything that he claimed to stand for regarding this issue on every level.
There have been several politicians who have cheated on their wives since Bill Clinton did (the most notable being John Edwards) and the press and public have been all over them. Nobody can defend this, no matter how hard you try. The guy is a total hypocrite. And now he has the nerve to say that the husband was trying to blackmail him...with the truth about his hypocrisy after he put himself in this position. What was the husband supposed to do...let him get away with cheating with his wife? After his public posturing, did he actually think that he was going to get away with this and that the husband wasn't going to say anything? That's both arrogance and stupidity.
Regarding the conduct of FoxNews, that's a different story. Apparently, the husband came to them with the story and they contacted Ensign for comment. They embargoed the story and then Ensign went public. Now whether FoxNews did anything wrong depends on how long they sat on the story. I don't know the answer to that one, but I do believe that FoxNews needs to explain what it did with the story and why. - Reply to this comment
- Wait, did I read that right...Hampton went from being an administrative assistant to a senior vice president...the senator really did or "owed" him a favor.

- I meant Dodd, not Todd. Sorry for the typo. Chris Dodd

- Why should he resign? Todd and Kennedy didn't resign when word leaked of their "sandwich" escapade years ago. Barney Frank didn't resign. Or is it just Republicans who should resign?
