Senator Wants Specifics On How Remaining Funds Are Spent; Says Obama Dismayed With How Treasury Has Run Program

To be fair, Obama repeatedly stipulated that the bailout must have caveats and checks--such as reviews, no bonuses or limited bonuses for mgrs and CEOS, continually accounting and audits by the government--limits on how the money could be spent...he continually reiterated these points while on the campaign trail and seemed confident they would be included in the final version. It was Paulson and Bush who wanted money with no strings and no one to account or question where it went--and with him having all the control. It was the publics understanding that safeguards were put into place.

About the time of the AIG parties and bonuses and retention packages, we realized that much of what Obama wanted and seemed to think would be in the bill, must not have been put in--it was money with no teeth. But to be fair, Obama was just one senator then and fighting to win an election--certainly without a win, he had no more clout than any other Senator. But that was for the first half--which many experts suspect has been squandered.

Now is the time for Obama to hold those executives accountable for what they took (as he promised us he would) and to NOT give out one more dime until money is accounted for, some people face prosecution, and some money is made to be repaid--only then should talk resume about giving the same set of criminals more tax payer welfare money.

We have seen how these businesses will spend the money, look no further than AIG, it has been proven time and time again that tricle down economics do not work. Their is no actual debt being cleared, and the banks are just using the funds to create more debt for the American taxpayer. Had they truly wished to stimulate the economy and to clear debt, the bailout would have been to the American taxpayer, who drives the economy and virtually holds all the debt. But that of course that was never the intent, so whatever plan that they come up with is destined to fail, if it doesn''t taxpayers of America.

Obama dismayed at how bailout is handled?!!! He was one of the guys that paraded and endorsed it. Some attention to detail is in order.

CORRECTIONS:

-he is fast losing any sense of fealty or currency among us IndependeNTS. I won''''t begin to go into the stupidity of NOT prosecuting Bush and others for war crimes as a prophylactic to other "would- be dictating warmongers." I won''''t go into his backpeddling -he appearS to have been a mistake.

AND THE DEMS ARE THE SAME BUFFOONISH, CLUELESS SYCOPHANTS THAT THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN, RUNNING AROUND--FLINGING CASH IN EVERY DIRECTION, WHILE BUMPING INTO EACH OTHER AND THE CONS--BECAUSE THEIR HEADS ARE STUCK SO FAR UP THEIR OWN AZZES, THAT THEY DON''T EVER HAVE A REAL CLUE WHAT IS GOING ON*

*Which would explain why they did not know that severely redacted NIE reports were possibly manipulated, and why they failed to ever say no to funding for the war, and why they failed to revoke or attempt to revoke the torture and wiretapping and why gitmo was never even attempted to be closed and why, despite their numerous protest "impeachment or even trying to investigate was ''off the table and may remain off the table'' and why Obama wants all of this behind him. Tell that to each and every fvcking family (American, Iraqi and anyone else) who lost a loved one to this stupid war.

Like many, I did not vote for Obama because of his speeches or because I believe the Dems are smarter or better than the Republicans. (I recognized the Democratic votes for each bad choice too) I voted for Obama, because he was the best choice out of the bad choices we represented. But he does not have (like Bush has with cons and Dems have with Obama) undying and unquestioning loyalty from me. Loyalty should be merited--not blindly bestowed--and praise should be earned.

When Obama starts out by trying to ignore the rule of law and help to not seat Burris, try the same stupid rebate gimmicks as Bush and is gung ho with giving more money to those who have already demonstrated a lack of decency and facility to use the money responsibly--he is fast losing any sense of fealty or currency among us Independence. I won''t begin to go into the stupidity of NOT prosecuting Bush and others for war crimes as a prophylactic to other would be dictating warmongers. I won''t go into his backpeddling or delays on most of his promises or his too willingness to kiss butts of the neo cons--suffice to say--with just focusing on the first 3 issues he has taken a stand on thus far--he appear to have been a mistake. Not that McCain would have done better--he would have been worse--but we still appear to have gotten a party machined controlled, game player--and not a person for the rest of us. I base this observation on just what he has done and said since the election --he looks like a scheming flake.

There is always cause and effect. During the past eight years almost 10 trillion dollars has been spent by the republicans who controlled all branches of government. The economic engine was allowed to run ungoverned in favor of free for all markets. We are now entering the analytical part of this experiment in reaganomics which will be viewed by the democrats thanks to a skeptical public. The next few years are going to be interesting as far as history is concerned. I believe 3 of the 19 republican senate seats on the ballot in 2010 have annouced they will not be seeking reelection.

Be honest. Take a good look at that spending. (on the war and otherwise) note who voted for the spending (dems and REpublicans) and note who padded it with pork--(Dems and Republicans) True--a lot of this was the fault of the war based on lies--but for every single spending bill (and I was watching each like a hawk) Dems protested then caved in--but not before bloating each and EVERY bill with even more billions for pet projects. As an Independent, I am not partisan in this like you Dems and Cons are--I see the whole game, not just slam the other side. And the fact is--EVERY SINGLE bill no matter how heinous --on wiretapping us, on torture, on the bailout--you name it--you will find significant Dem support and significant Dem hands out for money for their states. Every single one.

harbinger09, hence this article dodo,

Dodd states that he refuses to give out any more of the

republiCON Bailout to the wall street wealthy unless

there is some accountability.

You republiCON NAZI''''s know no truth, sad to see your

handiwork destroying America for GREED.

Try reading it again you partisan slvt. The article says Obama was "not happy about the way the money was spent" but says there will be more doled out if the banks will give "assurances" that they will lend the money and account for it. No reference to prosecution or accounting for already spending 350 BILLION dollars--just wants a "word" from them that they will do better when the next load is passed out. And you must be pretty new to these boards to not know that I am an Independent (since 1982) not a Democrat and not a neo con--frankly both of your parties svcks huge weenies.

Such posters are generally commenting for egotistical or selfish reasons and add nothing of importance to the discussions. Or at the very least, such comments detract from the poster%u2019s credibility.

Obama said that the change we are seeking is us. You need to learn that. This means that both sides stop the partisan cr@p and face a few hometruths. Go back and look at the record. YOu will find very few spending appropriations that the Dems were not on board for. VERY FEW. This is BOTH their faults, and many more are at fault for the war--and if you want to say that they were fed wrong intelligence, funny how I and many other Americans knew the WMD, etc was a bunch of bs and the Congress did not. If they are that stupid--they should not be representing us in the first place. Plenty of news articles debunked yellowcake at least 7 months before the CIA told Bush, they also debunked the roving labs--one had only to pay attention. Dems see Repubs as the problem, Reps blame Dems--the rest of us know its both of those clusterfvckers and we are sick of it.

Finally, with the republicans leaving "responsible''''

government rears its head. Sadly, the last 12 years of

republican rule have be completely without any such

responsibility, leaving America a third world nation

Responsible government would be NOT giving money to a group that has had issues of misspending on bonuses, parties, etc swirling around them. Responsible government would demand an accounting and would prosecute and try to collect on the misspent funds before trying to throw good money after bad. But the Democrats have never been responsible when it comes to spending. Like many Americans, they have no concept to the limits of funds and think the Treasury can just print more. No one can name one time when the Democrats has been fiscally responsible. Don''t say the Clinton years. The Congress was controlled by Republicans since 1994 to 2006.

Posted by ConDumbistan at 10:07 AM : Jan 12, 2009

But Democrats CAN be trusted!! Trusted to throw as much money as they can possibly imagine at any and every problem* Trusted to not understand or bother to learn how to really solve a problem and just keep trying to spend their ways out of it. Trusted to continually *****, moan and complain while still passing bloated spending bills, Trusted to try to pretend to be moral while secretly not having a clue what that means as they kowtow to the Republicans on war, torture, easedropping and pretending to excoriate their own party members.

Finally, trusted to be so gullible that we can be assured, that any time the neo cons have a way to spend money--no matter how heinous, the Democrats will be there to whine..then see how much they can pad the bill and pass it. Dems remind us of hooookers--dangle a quarter in front of them--they can''t help to spread their legs.

Dodd wants a better accounting? How about this--NO more money until the part given out is adequately accounted for and if misspent--PAID BACK. How about that?

* For all the complaints about the Iraq war--no matter the spending bill, Dems passed it and added Billions more to each and every one.

Why should we allow them to distribute more money when they and the banks made such a mess of the first half? Trips? hundred million dollar bonuses and retention pkgs? Stupid half-azzed forms to fill out with banks telling the media that they aren''t going to say how or what the money was spent on?

Sorry, Dodd--the banks like the auto industry should get NO money. The lending for the most part has not loosened--instead the huge money give away resulted in an institutional free for all, with the US tax payer left to hold the bill and on top of that credit card companies and others exploit the situation by raising rates for no reason, other than the fact that they misspent their loans and need to get more capital from somewhere. Fvck them all and Fvck Congress too.

Congress knew going in that this Neo-Nazi administration did not want to be regulated as to how the $700 BILLION was spent. When will the democrats ever learn that unregulated capitalism will never work in the USA! Too many southern state scumbags around that have proven time and time again that at the end of the day, these southern ConDumbs can not be trusted!

You simpleton....CONGRESS gave unilateral authority to Paulson to do as he liked with the first installment. Paulson yelled, ''fire'' and everyone in Congress got in line to pump money to him....now they want to know where it''s going and Paulson is basically saying, ''none of your business'' which he can do because Congress didn''t take enough time to really add stipulations. I know you have a w.oody for Obama and can''t dump enough on Bush in the way of blame...but at least be educated about it.

Dodd is a typical old time DC politician. It doesn''t matter whether he''s blue or red. Give him a forum and the words start flying. In his position the issue of foresight should have been first and foremeost in his mind. Money was authorized to save this economy and now we''re hearing that they know as much as where it went as we do. Shameful.
