Obama thinks he can deliver anything because he''ll just print more money. Unfortunately he''s going to make the dollar worth nothing before the end of next year.

Quoting from the article: "There''s widespread agreement, however, that improving classrooms helps student performance. Studies in Houston, New York City and North Dakota have made a link between classroom conditions and performance; in the New York study, researchers found kids in crowded classrooms scored lower in math and reading."

What a bunch of fluffery!!! Of course kids in crowded rooms have trouble studying and getting teachers attention. But this has nothing to do with how fancy the room is, its about class size.

And I would expect students that dont care about their schools end up trashing them so its pretty likely that students in poorly maintained schools perform poorly. But which came first? The poor preformance or the poor maintenance.

Finally, is that a federal problem that the US congress is skilled at handling? Or do our congressmen need to go back to school, take the class labeled "American Government".

Wuoting from the article: "Obama aides working on the stimulus package say they want projects that can start immediately, putting people back to work. A study by the Economic Policy Institute estimates that spending $20 billion on deferred maintenance in school districts across the country would create nearly 250,000 skilled maintenance jobs."

There we go, fix the boilers in the basement, then the kids will be smarter.

The reason students have not been achieving any better with all these fancy programs is that if you put lipstick on a pig it''''s still a PIG.
Meaning that the teachers teaching these kids most of them cannot even pass the proficency test themselves. So we have the blind leading the blind.
Then the second factor is Teaching is no longer a labor of love. Its just a job that pays no better than an entry position at a manufacturing plant.

Yeah, teachers should form a union so they can develop quality products like the UAW does. Then the feds should bail them out like the BAnks and the Big 3. Maybe THEN we can get the country back on track. Especially if we have a smart black president.

A great place to start. US education has fallen way behind other Western nations.

Sadly, you are right. It has fallen nearly every year since the federal government took over the rules. But, then, what can you find that the feds in Washington have done right? But, thats ok, lets give em more responsibility over us because they say they can "and its free".

Education is the KEY and it always was. Like the wise quote points out, if you think education is expensive, try ignorance!
