Paulson Says $700B Plan Not Designed For Big Three, White House Noncommittal But Open To New Ideas
- I think the auto industry is very important to our nation. I would love to be able to purchase a new well-designed AFFORDABLE and COMFORTABLE vehicle completely made in the US that gets at least 35 mpg and has air conditioning. Bells and whistles are not important and create complications. We are still driving a 94 Buick and 87 Honda and both get over 35 mpg. Have looked but not found a new car we want to buy.

- The Big 3 are profitable in their oversea divisions and produce cars with higher fuel economy.
We are all fools if we bail the out here because it is the UAW that accelerated tanking them and this money mostly goes to them.
Wake up everyone, write your Congressman and Senator before they do this, they are planning on doing this. - Reply to this comment
- I want the US auto Industry put out of its misery before it becomes our misery. 25 billion is a check that will be drop in the bucket to these inept companies and the UAW thieves they employ.

Well said. I don''t blame companies for wanting to do business outside the US when they have to deal with the UAW and other unions which have become obsolete. - Reply to this comment
- And GM just makes CRAPPY cars. I wouldn''t buy an American-branded car to save my life. And that''s sad. I WANT to buy American, but the quality of the cars is still sub-standard. Ford is alright, but Chevrolet cars are just junk...rattly, poorly-designed, substandard quality.
A friend of mine works for an extended warranty company, and he said the #1 claim frequency for them comes from Chevrolet cars, and GM in general. - Reply to this comment

- Perhaps Exxon Mobil could provide a loan to the auto makers that it''s in cahoots with! We all know that they have lobbied to keep fuel efficiency requirements low...
They deserve what''s happening to them. Our tax dollars should not go to bail them out. Especially when we can buy well-made Japanese cars built in the US that have good fuel efficiency.
And the unions are also a HUGE part of this problem.
"the president of the United Auto Workers union pressed Pelosi and Reid to provide an immediate $25 billion loan to keep the companies operating and a separate $25 billion to help cover future health care obligations for retirees and their dependents."
When the rest of us can''t afford healthcare, the auto industry wants another $25 BILLION for the healthcare of the company''s retirees? That''s absolutely RIDICULOUS. - Reply to this comment

- Pelosi''s statement did not specify the size of the aid package. She has tasked Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, to draft legislation, and a companion effort is under way in the Senate.
Oh my god, Barney my gay lover is an executive at Fannie Mae and nothing is wrong.
When will we learn? - Reply to this comment

Americans are cool to bailout except for democrat lawmakers in the tank with the UAW.
