- As a convicted felon, he can''t VOTE in the election, but he can RUN for and be ELECTED to senate? How backwards is that?

- The above picture of Senator Ted Stevens epitomizes the Republican party itself: old, worn out, corrupt, and badly in need of a tune-up. Seriously, if the GOP doesn''t take a good, hard look at itself and figure out how to reinvent its image, its future is pretty dismal. Rather than attracting people, true conservatives are beginning to leave the party in droves.

- The cranky old dude should just retire. He is well past his prime. Go to you snazzy little hot tub & cottage and stay out of trouble. Republicans love money more than life itself.

- Well...it''s a start...
ALL MEMBERS OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY SHOULD BE VIGOROUSLY PROSECUTED AS MEMBERS OF AN ONGOING CRIMINAL ENTERPRISE!
Those found guilty of looting our nation''s wealth, enslaving our children and grandchildren with a crippling debt, killing our son''s and daughters with this cynical, illegal war for oil...a war they blundered, should be imprisoned.
Vermin like Bush, Cheney & Co. should be publicly executed with the event televised on Pay-Per-View. The gigantic proceeds would make a sizable dent in our current financial difficulties and give most Americans a warm, fuzzy feeling.
Perhaps they could be waterboarded to devulge the whereabouts of the billions and billions they used their offices to steal
The idea is not without precedent. In ancient Rome, the former elite after a political upheaval had their property confisicated and they were executed with all the embellishments the new regime could devise for the general entertainment.
By the 3rd century, Rome spent 4/5 of the imperial budget on games to keep the people placated and not complaining about their loss of rights and freedom. It sees that seeing some former bigwig thrown to the beasts can give the average "Joe" a sense of well-being.

- We have also lost 75% of our manufacturing when NAFTA was passed
Posted by corey2444
Oh, another thing, the Pennsylvania STEEL mills and heavy machinery industries etc were all failing long before NAFTA- they were closing up, and by the 1970''s and early 80''s the rusting hulks of these abandoned huge plants were being demolished and strip malls and condos put in.
Steel went down partly because CHEAPER materials came in like plastics to replace it in appliances and stuff.
Maytag went down because who the hel1 is going to pay $1,200 for a freaking "Neptune" washing machine when right next to it in the store is a GE or some other brand for $199.95 ?? I could buy SIX washing machines for what that one cost! no wonder it was a total FLOP- like Detroit still building SUV''s and tank sized pickups no one wants- during a freaking gas crisis!
Yup, these American companies have great CEOs who really plan ahead don''t they! build $1,200 washers to compete against $199.95 washers, continue to build gas guzzling SUV''s and V-8 Ram charged pickups designed to haul stuff like a 60 foot construction trailer to the job site that no one wants because gas was $4 a gallon and it costs mom to much to gas up just to go grocery shopping for 2 bags of groceries. - Reply to this comment
- His expulsion from the Senate is highly possible. Although he could be replaced by a Republican Appointee by the Governor until a special election is held, it is likely that both Democrats and Republicans will throw huge amounts of finanacing if it makes the difference between achieving the Magic 60.

- "Stevens should get less than Martha Stewart" ?????? Pardon ? She was and is a private citizen. Stevens was a long-time elected official who should have at least tried to appear squeaky clean. Age notwithstanding, the fact that he served many years and may have other skeletons should direct the judge to really whack him with a long sentence. Someone should post his oath of office, so we can all see what he promised about "service" to the community. That''s how we hope to deter others who might think of doing similar stuff. Nail him to the wall.

Yeah yeah- it was passed because people wanted CHEAP goods, people don''t want to PAY $85 for an ordinary ILGWU produced UNION MADE shirt and $65 for shoes when they can be produced overseas and sold here at Walmart for $14.99.
Working stiffs also don''t want to pay $35,000 for a basic stripped down CAR to get to work, so Honda, Toyota, Volkswagon etc came in with CHEAP cars back then and they went like hot cakes because Detroit is screwed up and still is.
You can blame Clinton or whoever you want for a FREE TRADE AGREEMENT, but in the end you can only blame YOURSELF every time you buy CHEAP imported goods like a $14.99 shirt instead of supporting USA by paying $85 for the same thing made here!
YOU the consumer are the one who is the problem, not an agreement- you dont HAVE to buy foreign goods- demand USA made and PAY the price! If you didnt buy imports then they wouldnt be SOLD here because there would be no money in selling to people who don''t BUY eh?
But see, YOU BUY dont ya, cause you dont want to spend $85 for a work shirt when you can get one for $14.99! - Reply to this comment
- Stevens says he''s not dropping out of his Senate race despite being convicted.
Stevens, 84, was convicted of all the felony charges he faced of lying about free home renovations and other gifts from a wealthy oil contractor"

- If Obama wanted to emulate McCain''s attack ads, we would hear robocalls in the Heartland informing America''s patriots that McCain: a) was in the pocket of former Lincoln Savings & Loan president and convicted criminal Charles Keating; b) was buddies with fellow convicted criminal Republicans Ted Stevens, Tom Delay, Scooter Libby, Bob Allen, Trent Lott, Jack Abramoff, Don Young, Larry Craig, Randy %u201CDuke%u201D Cunningham, Tom Feeney, Alberto Gonzoles, Bob Ney, Rick Renzi, Richard Curtis, Steven Griles, Mark Foley...etc; c) accepted political donations from the Watergate convicted criminal G. Gordon Liddy; d) picked a runningmate mired in scandal (Troopergate) and has acted "unethical" according to her own people - - and doctored expense reports to bilk her taxpayers; e) gave up information to his communist captors in North Vietnam, whereas other American prisoners did NOT; McCain has a lot to answer for. You can%u2019t call yourself a patriot while voting for criminals.
