Debate Over "Spread The Wealth Around" Comment Reveals Complicated (And Contradictory) Feelings

SOMALIA has NO "TAXES" if you base your theoretical business on "taxes" only might I recommend moving it to that nation! (along with your UNPATRIOTIC, socially IRRESPONSIBLE self)
Of course you MIGHT have to deal with the LACK of "tax money" benefits - like paved roads, police to keep you safe, no fire departments to speak of, etc
Then again the LOW WAGES that the STARVING HORDES will accept just might be right up your alley! (until they overrun your stronghold)
Ireland might have ONE TYPE of "tax" lower than the US BUT they get their due in other ways. - Reply to this comment
- Definition of "trickle down:
Having someone far wealthier than you peeing down on you; being told it''s a "golden" shower and the especially twisted fools drink it. - Reply to this comment
- You Bozos, you don''t get it! In this modern global economy, any business that stays here does it out of loyalty only. If I owned a company that made $10 Billion last year and I paid myself $10 Million. You would have me paying 35% of both - I would move to Ireland or any of many other countries and pay 11% or 15% and look at all the defference: the US treasury gets less, I moved all my jobs away, so the treasury doesn''t get their money either. There has to be SOME incentive to keep jobs HERE and higher taxes is not a very good incentive!
Socialism has worked so well everywhere else on the globe that we have to prove it can be done well???? - Reply to this comment

- The top 1% of wealthiest Americans now have a collective wealth of $19 Trillion dollars. The other three hundred million plus Americans have a collective wealth of $17 Trillion dollars. The top 1% saw an increase of income of 20% between 1946 and 1976. Between 1976 and 2006 the top 1% saw an increase of income of 232%! Those figures are a result of laws to favor the wealthy, tax loop holes, tax benefits for companies that move to foreign countries in order to increase profits because of low wages and no environmental controls---the table has been tilted to favor the wealthy.

Wow...I had even heard that Warren Buffet pays a much lower percentage of taxes than his secretary.
I''m so tired of this. I can''t say that ANY of these CEOs and people making this much money actually work harder than the rest of us. And the boards of these corporations, which have members who are CEOs of OTHER corporations, are the ones who set policy on CEO compensation. So they keep voting themselves outrageous compensation plans...this just seems wrong. - Reply to this comment

Since the republicans have dominated the political scene, 95% of Americans have now seen a decrease in income while at the same time the top 1% saw that 232% increase in income. Our jobs, homes and health insurance are gone. This is what the republican party has wrought. They have mesmerized us into making themselves and their wealthy friends ever richer while the rest of the country founders. THEY CAN''''T DO IT TO US IF WE DON''''T VOTE FOR THEM. THEY HAVE LEFT A GIGANTIC MESS. BARACK OBAMA WILL WORK TO CORRECT THE PROBLEMS, BUT WE MUST GIVE HIM THE TOOLS HE NEEDS TO DO THE JOB. VOTE FOR DEMOCRATIC SENATORS AND CONGRESSMEN. The balance has been lost and the pendulum must swing back the other way if we are to restore our economy.

- ofbyfor3, A little education for you, Obama may be 9if elected) President-Elect in 9 days or so, but he won''t be President. I know you Democrats like to change the rules, but this one doesn''t change.

- Its time for congress to act?
Congress should look into all this money Obama has gotten through suspicious means.
Who in the hell can give Obama $200 dollars for his election? Money is tight? Where is the money coming from?
Just where is all this money coming from to elect Obama?
Remember now America is broke with no jobs and Obama seem to have cash thats out of this world?
Please ask yourself WHERE is Obama getting the money? WHERE?

From the millions of Americans (even many of our troops) who are willing to make some sacrifices to ensure that we end this downward spiral we are on.
Sorry not enough people have the same faith in your candidate to do that. - Reply to this comment
- The world''''s economy is based on Americans buying things. We can''''t do that if the middle class no longer exists. Some very greedy people have squeezed the goose that lays the golden eggs until they nearly killed her. That goose needs some serious care. Vote the Other party in. The one that didn''''t do this to America and to our children. Vote Obama and give him the tools he needs to restore a healthy economy. Vote democratic for the House and Senate. I am not a democrat, but I recognize that the republican party has gone off the track and have left a gigantic mess that needs to be fixed as quickly as possible. If they still have the ability to fillibuster, they will do as they have done for the past two years. They will grid lock every bill. We don''''t have time for that in these perilous times. FDR saved this country from the first great depression and Barack Obama will save us from the second, but only if we give him the tools he needs. Close your eyes, think of America and vote democratic this year.

You people take one thing and stretch it as far as your sorry little imaginations can take it.
Intelligent Americans see that for what it is and have had enough. That is why your guy is tanking in the polls.
You have 9 days left in which to practice saying ''President Obama''. Better start practicing now.
America is going to vote overwhelmingly for him. - Reply to this comment
- Because of the free market forces inflation will remove any benefit the 40K worker received and overall reduce economic growth because of the mechanics.
Posted by doctor--cool at 02:05 PM : Oct 26, 2008
You are only looking at one side of the coin.
Right now many business are faltering because the average consumer (your 40K person) is not spending money in the stores.
Therefore business profits go down.
More workers get laid off...and the spiral repeats.
The businesses DEPEND on the consumers having MONEY!
The difference between your scenario and mine is that the consumers have NO guarantee that the businesses will take any money thay save in taxes and use that to provide more jobs, at least not necessarily jobs here in America. There is nothing that says that the companies HAVE to. We also have no guarantee that they will necessaily keep prices low (as we saw with gas prices during a time when oil companies were making record profits).
The Average Joe cannot depend on anything trickling down from the companies, because the companies can send jobs overseas, keep prices as high as the market will (groaningly) bear etc.
Companies, however, HAVE TO DEPEND on consumers buying the products and services. When people get tight-fisted they spend less. Consider how companies complain during a bad Christmas retail season.
Trickle-down=no guarantee---middle class (maybe), business (maybe)
Trickle-up=everybody gets something--middle class (more income), business (more income) - Reply to this comment

Be prepared to work three jobs.
Who will care for you if Obama Hussein is elected?
Obama plans to take yes thats right take, more money out of your paycheck for the worlds poverty as he puts it. So now instead of working two jobs to feed your family you will have to work three jobs to help feed the people in Africa? Its your responsibility to do this.
