Comments on: NYC Mayor Bloomberg Wins Term Limit Fight
City Council Votes In Favor Of Term-Limit Change, Paving Way For Mayor's Third Campaign
- Most of us probably thought that a referendum has the force of law. If a city council can disregard a referendum and change the rules, the people really don''t have a say in matters. No matter how popular a politician is, how can a group such as the city council nullify the people''s vote? This is like Chavez of Venezuela trying to change the constitution so he can remain in office for life.

- It''s called the "Santa Claus Claus", it''s obvious who will getting something special this "Christmas", The City Council. Gulliani tried the same thing after 9/11, I guess he didn''t have enough money?

- Even if he''''s popular, Bloomberg should still fight for the right to go for re-re-election again in a run-off against other people in his party. If he''''s that popular, the people will still have a say. I personally find it frightening that someone who just thinks they should be able to run again could pass it through a city council, even if it''''s just for mayor.

When you say "just for Mayor", please remember that New York city has more people than many countries. The mayor of New York probably has more power and influence than the leaders of some countries. The population of New York City is @ 6 million people. - Reply to this comment

- So now I am convinced the individual''s vote does not count. We are ruled by dictatorship and don''t even realize it. What did it matter that 89% of New Yorkers wanted to vote for term limits? Obviously, it didn''t. Why continue to vote for anything? It used to be a privilege and a right...now between the electoral college and the City politicians..voting is wasted time and uncounted voices.

- One thing about Mayor Bloomberg that is good is that he takes ONE dollar per year for his salary. He also lives in his own home, not in Gracie Mansion. Therefore, the taxpayers of NYC are not supporting him. All that he does for the city is strictly goodwill on his part - minus that dollar per year, of course.
I do agree, however, that the change in the term limits should go to referendum. I believe he is probably the best for what is going on right now, but the referendum should be held. - Reply to this comment
- I agree with katnap4. This is all just a big farce, with these politicians altering the law to suit their own desires, and be damned what the constituents think. These people''s word means absolutely nothing. They say what they think people want to hear, but do what they want to do. I just hope he doesn''t win the next election, it would serve him right. Rally together people, let these politicians know what we think of them.

- guess dictatorships are alive and well even in the united states of america. wonder if the mayor is so good that he turns water into wine, beer, oil, gasoline, something. power does corrupt anyone and there is never enough of it, it''s addictive.

- I feel like I missing something Since when can politicians just decide to change the rules? Granted he got permission, but I am tired of the Bush mentality that if I want to break the rules and change the law illegally, by golly I will. Power corrupts.

- The vote should have been by referendum but of course that would have resulted in Bloomberg''s retirement. Its a shame Bloomberg can''t see the big picture from his actions. Future idiots in the Mayor''s seat may end up in the job far longer than they should.
