FROM THE INTERNATIONAL EDITION OF THE INDEPENDENT...

Republican leaders break ranks with McCain
By Stephen Foley in New York
Monday, 13 October 2008

Senior members of the Republican party are in open mutiny against John McCain''s presidential campaign, after a disastrous period which has seen Barack Obama solidify his lead in the opinion polls.

From inside and outside his inner circle, Mr McCain is being told to settle on a coherent economic message and to tone down attacks on his rival which have sometimes whipped up a mob-like atmosphere at Republican rallies.

Two former rivals for the party nomination, Mitt Romney and Tommy Thompson, went on the record over the weekend about the disarray in the Republican camp. And a string of other senior party figures said Mr McCain''s erratic performance risks taking the party down to heavy losses not just in the presidential race but also in contests for Congressional seats.
Some Republicans seeking election to Congress have begun distancing themselves from Mr McCain.
Possible options include temporary tax cuts on capital gains and dividends. Mr Romney said he should "stand above the tactical alternatives that are being considered and establish an economic vision that is able to convince the American people that he really knows how to strengthen the economy".

NY TIMES INTERNATIONAL EDITION

Palin opened the series of blistering assaults by accusing Obama of "palling around with terrorists."

On Sunday, one man shouted out "Obama loves terrorists" as Palin talked about "the bad guys."

But as the polls showed Obama widening his lead, the Republicans apparently decided the tactic had proven fruitless and shifted course back to vows to revamp Washington, blaming politicians and greedy Wall Street executives for the worst financial crisis to face the country in 80 years.

The Obama Campaign and Obama''s supporters have played the "race card" too many times to be even mildly credible anymore. If being labeled a racist is the price I pay for voting for McCain, so bet it, he is an American Hero and he deserves my vote!!

whiner245a you don''t get it !!!

World sees obama as a better leader because he will restore the Past American Image, he better understands World diplomacy..... (Obama is the end of Bush arrogance, Bush Economy disaster, the Bush Irak personnal war..., Bush incompetence to kill Ben Laden)

Obama undestand we need to go to afghanistan and pakistan to kill Ben Laden... Irak is a real distraction...

And above all, we need a educated, intelligent president...

He''s absolutely right with respect to Palin. There is no other way to describe her conduct other than racist hate-mongering, and McCain must accept responsibility for the irresponsible and repugnant behaviour of Palin.

Not a seed of hatred, but of fear. Remember what happen in Oklahoma city, when conservative minded people don''t get their way. We as african americans, we may disagree with President Bush, but we don''t wish any ill will on him, he do have a family.
