I gotta agree with checkthepast on this one. -- Posted by synchrochick at 01:26 PM : Oct 01, 2008

I have to agree with your thinking on the Troopergate of Palin too. So what if she wants to use her position as governor to conduct a private vendetta on her ex-brother-in-law? Posted by Nancy_Naive at 03:00 PM

That''s not what I said. But I''m glad you had fun trying to twist my statement around. I didn''t mention Troopergate or Palin at all.

[I must have missed something. I''''m not on anybody''''s side here, but what is illegal about all this? I have a construction company and I send a crew from time to time to do work at my parents home or sometimes at a friends farm. I pay my workers and sometimes I accept partial payment or let them pick up the material tab, and sometimes I don''''t. If the feds case is that the renovations had to be reported because it was a ''''bribe'''' or favors for contracts, that''''s bull too. These two have been friends for a long time and there was no need to grease the wheel. Nothing would change either way.]

it''s called ''conflict of interest''. if you were a judge ... and your mother and father came before you in a legal disupute ... would it be approriate for you to be ruling on the case?

stevens is a powerful senator ... who influences legislation that may benefit (or not) the funding for projects that his ''friend'' may gain from. how do you suppose their relationship formed ... for what reason ... fishing?

"Stevens, 84, said he had no idea exactly what was being done or who was doing it because his wife reviewed and paid all the bills."

Ummm...leaves me wondering: Is there anybody a Republican WON''T throw under the bus?

Palin quote:

%u201CI have great respect for the Senator (Stevens). He needs to be heard across America."

Well Stevens has been "heard" in court.

Why is it politicians blead ignorance like that is an excuse. If they can handle the business of America, they can handle home improvement payments.

I gotta agree with checkthepast on this one. I don''t understand what all the hubbub is about. So what if he had a friend do the work. Should he have hired an enemy? Since when is it illegal to show gratitude? It''s not mutually exclusive of payment. How many times to you thank the cashier when you buy groceries or thank your mechanic. It''s too bad that being polite is what ends up taking someone down.
