Progress Reported As Key Democrat Sees Deal By Sunday; Republicans Not As Optimistic
- The house Republican neocons who are holding this up want huge tax breaks for the very corporations and CEO''s who have already robbed us. At least if we buy the assets we can sell them later and get some of the money back. Remember, Roy Blunt and the gang are the "no regulation at any cost" crowd who caused this in the first place. They want to get their hands in your pockets again by giving their rich buddies tax breaks, and leaving the little people out. Same ol'', same ol''.

- funny how people didnt get upset when congress handed the Carlyle group 161 billion dollars last spring to pay for private security, tell me Bush is not making a profit off of killing our own soldiers by sending to a war that was a lie. wanna bet on the stock market i bet no defense contractor loses they have already paid their way via lobbyists and the never ending supply of bombs we need to replace as we are using up what we have and might need to fight another imaginary foe . seems like everything they told us the terrorists wanted to take from us" our freedom" has been taken by our own govt while they let the country get in this mess

- the reason we are in this mess is because the grand old faces in both parties have been sucking on the scheme too long time to take away all their paycheck for life retirements and 86 all of em

- our government loves to give away money how much has been dumped into Iraq? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ! Congress has neglected America and Americans too long now.they didn''t care about 911 even though they will pitch the old patriot stuff at you.they lied to go to war in Iraq, they lied about everything they have done.and congress has let them.they have crawled in bed with the lobbyists so deep that no one in Washington is immune. No one has admitted the war is a factor and that irks me that they can forget 5000 young men and women who died so they could make some side money on a "privatized " war it sickens me we the people will let it stand when we have no place being over there anyway

- What is Obama''s plan? That''s right, he didn''t have one, all he had was a list of demands. Someone tell him to share his brillant plan if he has one, otherwise he should quit calling his goal a plan. What a joke and SleezeBS of course fails to mention that he didn''t have a plan other than to call a goal a plan.

- Get the BAILOUT BILL done, so I can see how everyone voted, and then I can go vote early and VOTE ALL INCUMBENTS OUT!
And, I hope tens of millions of my fellow Americans will join me in practicing this simple procedure!
People! WE CAN have a clean government IF we REALLY want one! THAT''S one of the dirty little secrets---and fears of incumbents---politicians don''t want you to know! - Reply to this comment
- Don''''t the Democrats control both the House & Senate?
I''''m curious, does anyone at CNN have an answer?

There''s a BIG difference between having a simple numeric majority (as the Dems have) and having CONTROL (which would allow them to enact what they wanted with no regard for what the opposition wants!), this they do NOT have!
Ironic, huh!? Rep president who pushes this MONSTER, and Rep congressmen who don''t want it passed! But, the difference is, the congressmen will get voted out if they vote for this, and Bush has no more elections so he doesn''t CARE! - Reply to this comment
- leaving any incumbent in office after the election would be the worst thing we can do we need to send a clear message to BOTH parties represent the people, and honestly do your job, or we will remove you PERIOD.

- The so called experts have a vested interest in the bailout. If the bailout fails to pass their employers will not forgive. If the banks had spent fewer billions changing their business in the short term they would not need help now. If they need help now they will need help for a long time because this is just the tip. They went from greed greed greed to need need need. They are not even asking with humility they are demanding and arrogant. They are demanding we do this. I say no, but I am one person. NO. No now and NO forever. If the system fails do not blame the victim. Even 700 billion will not resolve this. When this is over and every taxpayer is doubled over with the burden of this event the same fat cats will be building larger estates enjoying all the luxuries that we afford them. If we go down we go together.

- The bottom line on this story is that both Democrats and Republican lawmakers allowed themselves and their cronies to inflate the housing market and then allowed Wall Street to illegally manipulate the housing loan markets and the rates. They allowed people to buy houses that any reasonable person should know that the borrowers couldn''t afford. The so called investors took a risk (like everyone else) to get into the real estate market and now they are stuck. The CEOs were allowed huge salaries and bonuses and everyone got greedy. Now the common everyday American and those seniors who are losing their pensions are the ones who have to suffer. This is not a just a Republican or just a Democrat problem, these are problems associated with elected officials falling asleep at their jobs and only looking after themselves rather than the people who elected them.

- This scare tactic is burning off. Last week we were told Asian markets and ours would plummet if we didn''t have a deal. The market actually did pretty well this week considering the fear. I think everyone is finally starting to realize this bailout is a bad idea.

- its the only way to rid ourselves of the problem is to eliminate those who could not do the job by no means should they be allowed to stay

- If the Democrats want to pass an emergency bail out plan, and the President said he wouldn''t veto he measure, then how can the Republicans be holding it up? Don''t the Democrats control both the House & Senate?
I''m curious, does anyone at CNN have an answer?

I have an answer, this is being held up by a very few senators that can see the writing on the wall.
Vote for a bailout = lose your job come election day. - Reply to this comment
- start an all incumbent vote out

- This pisses me off. I own a small business and this year has been really hard but I will make it by useing my head. There is no bail out for me. I don''t live above my means. So why shoul I have too pay for others who have lived high on the hog looking down on me. Now I''m expected to bail them out?
Does this make any sence? We need to cut the goverment off. Our contry is so far in debt and they want too borrow more! Stand up to China, they bought all those loans without doing there homework not me. - Reply to this comment
