It seems that there are a lot of paranoid NRA members.
The reality is, that no one is going to take your guns away from you or enact legislation that will limit gun ownership. However this writer who has owned guns, has hunted and spent 8 years in the US Army does have one suggestion that will drive NRA nuts, is require registration of all automatic weapons. They are not legitimate hunting weapons. I know that this is radical, but we some common sense in this country. Come on NRA wake up!

Card carrying Republican NRA member here... The NRA is almost as fanatical as Governor Palin. If the 2nd Amendment is all you care about, vote for Palin-McCain. If you are concerned about having a job that pays enough to buy a few 100 rounds of Winchester White Box after all the bills are paid and your family is fed, vote for Obama. Tell me you NRA members don''t get sick of all the spam they dump in your inbox - all asking for money. IT''S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY, STUPID.

Barack Hussein Obama and his stooge sidekick Joe "Foot in Mouth" Biden ought keep their silly hands to themselves and off our guns! Like typical liberals, they want the only weaponry to reside in the hands of Almighty Government, when in truth our Founding Fathers had in mind quite a different notion!

Bottom line: Just say "NO!" to Obama/Biden!

My ex from the Bronx was perfectly in line with the second amendment... with some restrictions. See, she was against a gun in the house, Wal-Mart selling them, kids knowing they exist. But she was pro-second amendment BUT only criminals had guns.

My point is that while Obama says "The bottom line is this. If you%u2019ve got a rifle, you%u2019ve got a shotgun, you%u2019ve got a gun in your house, I%u2019m not taking it away," He does NOT mention handguns. An omission? I don''t think so.

Hisvoting record on gun issues was not twenty years ago, it was two. So what made him change his mind?

He hasn''t. He will not try to take your guns. He will vote to force you to keep them at home. He will ban your ammunition and make lead illegal to use. He will reinstate the Clinton Gun Ban on semi automatic weapons. He will make all those neat stocks illegal. He will make it a crime to own a .50 caliber (including muzzleloaders). And to say it one more time... he did NOT include handguns in his statement.

You will see gun restrictions that will make you just like those poor people in DC that were lawfully disarmed for the criminals. Do you know that in one year there were more murders in Washington DC, a city just over 500K than the entire state of Kentucky where open carry is legal.

Obama, in my opinion, is the most dangerous threat to personal liberty that the US has ever seen.

I have in past years been an avid hunter, until I got my trophy buck, now I just look after the other hunters in my family. My husband and two of my sons are lifetime NRA members, that being said, I really detest what the NRA rants about. No one and I mean no one has the right to own assault or armory piercing weaponary. I have talked to people who claim that it is their "right" to own any gun that they want. It is beyond my understanding as to why someone would want to own an armour piercing weapon. What are you going to do with it? Or why would you want to own a sniper gun? If you are wanting to shoot animal, for sport, from that far of a distance, where is the sport? I thought that hunting was the fun of tracking, stealth, and just being out and enjoying nature. At least that is how I it hunting when I was hunting. I must be really stupid to not understand the need for a gun that is used by the military or terorists. However, my real gripe with NRA is the use of their clout to support the Republican party, being a good Democrat, this really angers me. My family bought lifetime membership because we like to hunt and want to read the articles about hunting. We do not want to be bullied and misled by Republican propaganda. Please, hunting is for sport- not politics.

when you have fire arms readily available anywhere and in any part of the world people are going to die simple.

"Guns for recreational purpose, should be registered and securely stored at the shooting range facilities. Not taken with us on board of cars or at home... end of it!"

Fine, trishab58. I''ll be ready to defend myself and my kids at home and in my car. No one will force you to exercise your rights guaranteed by the constitution. Just please don''t try to mess with mine.

btw, gun registration is an infringement of a right, and is thus unconstitutional. Good night!

You said Any one who likes to own gun, go to Iraq, guns are free for every one.

That was ignorant.. one might say it''s safer in Iraq then it is in the south side of Chicago where Obama did all that change.

Perhaps Reginald Denny wouldn''t have had that fire extingisher introduced to his head (had he have had a gun)

More crimes are PREVENTED by the display of a firearm but you never hear about those...

Men own and control guns... men without guns are subjects.. The police can''t be everywhere and it''s far better to be judged by 12 then carried by 6.

It''s simply amazing (you can have a mini riot) and watch it all end simply by jacking a round in a shotgun (it''s the one sound EVERYONE knows).

Also a .22 in your pocket is better then a cannon or even a tank (if it''s at home)... A gun is a tool and it puts a 86 year old frail man on the same even ground as Arnold or Chuck Norris... in fact it puts him on even better ground if he''s good with his gun.

sun247, I agree--I''ve had no problem sifting through and finding the truth. But I''ve had to really work at it, due to the fairly significant bias. Something as basic as the title chosen can show a clear bias--but most people don''t seem to see it.

And there is a lot of ignorance about the feasibility, costs, and unintended consequences of many of the gun control ideas being proposed.

The thugs in the United Nations definitely want us to disarm ourselves, but our founders suggest otherwise. I think our founders were onto something.

trisha58, why do you consider families for hundreds of years until the late 1960s "paranoid?" Did you know that schools had a gun, and one reason principals were added to schools was because kids attacked teachers, and so men were hired to be disciplinarians? But the teacher generally had a gun to ward off predators--both 2 and 4-legged.

There is nothing paranoid about readiness. And you may think this is odd, but shooting guns for recreation is very zen. It takes focus, discipline, and skill.

The gun-hysteria thing is a recent phenomenon, mostly fueled by the Bradys. When you suffer trauma, you definitely have permanent engrams that replay in your head. And some people have used their trauma reaction to incite fear about a useful tool.

Did you know the Supreme Court ruled the police have no duty to protect individuals? And that police are spread so thin, the chance of one actually saving you from a predator is very slim? See

http://www.firearmsandliberty.com/kasler-protection.html

I used to think some of what the Bradys were saying sounded plausible, and then I started doing my own research, and now that I''m more informed I think quite differently. I think real feminists take responsibility for their own self-protection.
