When I was a junior in high school my parents bought a new car for $1500.00. The first new car I bought cost me $15,000. Hint clue!

Seems like nobody woke up and smelled the coffee!!!

To me, it meant that I was going to have to prepare three times more for living in the future than living in the NOW! Too many can''t see past living in the NOW!

I am better off 8 years ago because of my hard work and effort, not because of anything the govt does. In fact, govt policies generally make people worse off, not better.

:) Me too! Strange isn''t it how long a wait these people have had waiting for the government to support their bad habits...and personal economies.

You know, all the rhetoric aside, it all boils down to the same simple question. Are you better off now than you were 8 years ago?
If yes, vote McCain, if no, vote Obama or just stay home and whine.

reply to: letxa above.Yes you''re correct = trusting govt w/ your money. This morn on cspan a speechwriter for Reagan (Judge Clark)said: "we can''t ballance the ss fund on the back of General Revenue fund. Why??I ask. That''s exactly what happened in reverse when in the middle of night yrs ago they passed the law that allowed the politicians, (both sides) to ballance General fund so as to slip in earmarks by the ton to take pork back home to get themselves re-elected. In other words using our retirement money to sponser their greedy ***** to re-elect themselves.Yes, We should now Fund the losses w/ general revenue fund from whence it (the losses) came. In other words --Pay the *** money back. Period

Hey, here''s a crazy idea - why don''t the politicians let the PEOPLE decide whether or not they want to participate in the Social Security program, instead of being FORCED to participate in the program?

If you choose to opt out, you give up ALL future benefits. Still, I think many people would choose to opt out in order to keep more of their own hard earned money.

ubrew - all true. But guess what? The Dems are no better. Federal debt has climbed every year that a Dem pres has been in control (since 1960).

There ain''t a dime''s worth of difference between the two parties. They are both leading the country down the road to fiscal ruin.

reply to johngood56 above: Hey johnny, I notice you display your description of Obama w/ a touch of racial fear tactics? = amerifrican? Why? I served in Korea & pulled Police action on the DMZ many yrs ago. Headquarters Co.,2/5th Cav, 1st Cav Div. I came from southern ohio & had little exposure to blacks then. I now have lived in Cleve, Oh for many yrs. I''v had quite good experience w/ blacks all my life. If you treat them as you''d like to be treated you''ll more often get the same treatment back. Some of ALL races contain feelings, & display them of hatred, etc. Whites included! Oh by the way ---- I''m white. Go Obama. I''ve been supporting Obama from the get-go & have had to convince other blacks to support him when even a lot of them whom I work with didn''t think he had a chance. Again, Go Bam Bam

For 30 years, Republican Presidents, working with Republican Congresses, have cut taxes but refused to cut spending, (which is politically unpopular) . The resultant $10 trillion debt now threatens to enslave an entire generation of Americans. The taxes that were ''cut'' weren''t actually cut, they were ROLLED onto the backs of the unborn. Today, just the $300 billion cost of paying the INTEREST on this debt, absorbs all taxes paid by everyone West of the Mississippi River. It pays for no roads, no law n order, no sewers, no armed forces. It pays rich people and foreigners for holding off our foreclosure for one more year, giving us a year to come up with NEXT years $300 billion. But, thanks to Bush doubling an already gigantic debt, the global ''smart money'' already knows America is an irresponsible borrower and have devalued the dollar in response, meaning ordinary Americans must now pay more for EVERYTHING they buy: gasoline, clothing, groceries, etc. Adding insult to injury, Republicans have worked to loosen government oversight of our lending industries, so that NOW the ordinary taxpayer must bail out multiple banks, and take OVER Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac, because of their ''irrational exhuberance'' following deregulation, a multi-billion dollar bailout.

Now, do voters REALLY want to reward Republicans for DOING this to America? What kind of signal does that SEND??? To me, it sends a signal that ''THE BEATINGS SHOULD CONTINUE UNTIL MORALE IMPROVES!!!''

The future debt obligations to federal entitlement programs like SS, Medicare, and Medicaid are estimated to be $50-75 TRILLION!

Yet, NEITHER candidate addresses this enormous problem. They are too busy trying to distract the sheeple over petty issues.

Of course, the voters don''t care either. Most just want to get ''their piece of the pie'' before the money runs out, at the expense of future generations.

Mencken once said that the people get the government they deserve - and they deserve to get it good and hard. I think he was right.

I am glad that you brought that up.

It should be noted that for a good portion of Ws presidency that was a congress with a GOP majority (as evidenced by having only one veto before the democrats won a majority).

All the more reason to vote straight democratic ticket.

Funny how that fact always escapes their little pea brains isn''t it? They also can never remember That Bush and his Republicans engage in the biggest expansion of an entitlement program since the 1960s.

And, the 50%-Amerifrican''''s daughter will never do something like this because Michelle has so much experience with butchering so many babies as they slept in her womb that I am comfortable his (if they really are) girls will know how to murder their babies, rather than carry them to term.

thanks for proving my point if her daughter was pregnant and did carry them to term you would have said its typical of blacks to have babies out of wedlock and label them "welfare recipients" who are taking advantage of the systems. at some point and time you have to take a look at yourself and acknowledge the truth instead of always deflecting the attention off yourself by making excuses and using flawed logic. fact is they are also my white mother who have abortion contrary to what popular belief is

In reply to above post (by: cattlekake) Yes indeedy Sarah (skin her moose) Palin is an agent of change. Just like when she FIRST approved of the $330,000,000
for Senator Stevens Bridge to nowhere. (before) a touch of swiftboat actics here, she then changed her mind & went against it. Probably had the inside scoop on upcomming corruption scandals for Stevens.Stevens was getting this bridge built to his summer getaway on the Island it was going to so he wouldn''t have to take a boat!! Terrible inconvience I suppose.

Did debt rise at the same time?? Sure, given all the spending G.W. had to grant Congress, before they would allow him to defend America.

If revenues were generated then why did the national debt increase from 5 trillion to 10 trillion under Bush. Why are the the economists predicting that the continuation o the Mccain/bush tax plan will increase 5 trillion(LA Times)?

if it was barack obama who had a 17 year old teenager who was pregnant and her boyfriend was some hip hop "thug" fox news and the media would have ripped him a new ***. i never really thought that racism was that much a factor in this country but the last few weeks has drastically changed my opinion. i never once saw obama disrespect john mccains character personally, as a matter a fact he makes it a point to commend him on his service. they ripped in Michelle obama and not once i heard anyone cried sexism. obama went as far as to say that he condems the media for attack palins kids. you can tell a lot from a man by his actions and he react to adversity and for that reason am voting obama

Maybe if it suddenly became more profitable to hire U.S. workers we could solve part of the social security problem.

Posted by helanwate,

Exactly! The primary reason social security is in trouble is related to the export of high paying jobs offshore and the refusal to make people who earn more than $ 102,000 annual to pay the fair percentage.

Trickle down economics that the GOP has lead is flawed since it does not account for the human factor of greed. Why economic sense does it make to export millions of high paying jobs offshore when those Americans are responsible for consuming the goods that drive our economy?

Consider this question as well. Does a single family making a $ 1,000,000 per year going to provide the economic stimulus that 20 families making $ 50,000 per year? The answer is no since 20 familes will consume far more goods and recycle far more money back into the economy.

That is why we need to vote for regime change and terminate the GOPs grip on power to send our message.
