- Tucker, I do not think we use any oil here in Texas for electricity generation.........gas, coal, nuclear and now wind.
The "get along" theory was what was used by the Bush''s with the Middle East for a long time and that is why they are such good friends with the Saudi royal family. However, after 9/11, it became obvious the Saudi''s were unable to control the Wahabi militant form of Islam and that stronger measures were required.
I am not sure how you get along with the crazy power maniac in Venezuela....... - Reply to this comment
- therefore, we will not significantly impact our gasoline consumption for over 10 years and maybe as long as 20 years because we are still growing.

I think even 5 years is sufficient to see a significant drop in U.S. gasoline consumption if the price of gasoline remains high, say above $3.50/gallon. The savings will come from higher utilization of mass transit, customer shift towards high fuel-economy vehicles or vehicles powered by alternative energy sources, depressed domestic tourism and new configurations to move people and goods. - Reply to this comment

- Tucker, control can mean a lot of things including good relations, strength, conservation, increased drilling and etc.
Those who think alternative energy sources are going to fix our problems are smoking rope.
Our new President must understand the need to control our supplies.
I watched an interview on CNBC with a green leader who talked about windmills and the high price of gasoline. The guy was pandering! The two are only marginally related. And will be only marginally related for 10-20 years. Most of our oil is used for transportation. - Reply to this comment
- Its a amazing piece of engineering, the internal combustion engine. May be old, but its tried and true. Ya git these new things that people try and sell ya, and what ya git are unforeseen circumstances.. safety related.

- Thats the nice thing about the internal combustion engine. Its self sufficient. Has its own electricity.

- Coal may be dirty, but its still better than nuclear. Nuclears just too risky.

- J, the math works like this:
We have about 220M cars in America
We buy about 15M per year
All 15M will not be hybrids or all-electricity
therefore, we will not significantly impact our gasoline consumption for over 10 years and maybe as long as 20 years because we are still growing.
From that, we must have control of our oil supplies for at least 20 years until we can change out our cars and find alternatives.
Right now, there is NO magic bullet. - Reply to this comment
