Tax Policy Experts Give Democrat's Proposal To Nix Income Tax For Some Seniors Low Marks
- Since the amount of money involved in Obama''s proposal for seniors amounts to less than the amount of money involved in the donut hole for Part D, may I suggest a compromise between those who begrudge seniors a few perks in their twilight years and those who threaten to give away the farm while trying to save the hogs. Let the government pay the donut hole charges on all of Part D. This means that the truly sickly elderly get needed help at a critical time in their lives, thereby soothing the consciences of the "farm givers." For the "begrudgers" seniors, in turn, shall will and bequeath all of their wealth to the government rather than their descendants. This will help their descendants learn the character lessons that come from earning a living and buiding an estate, which, in turn, they can will to the government in order to aid their descendants'' moral development. It seems to me there is something here for Republicans and Democrats alike. Have a nice day.

- Is Obama No Tax for Seniors Plan similar to the Inflate Your Tires Energy Plan?
Posted by obama8years
Inflating your tires properly is one of the oldest tricks for upping mileage in the books. Look at it this way MORON. It costs you nothing but can increase your mileage by 3%. The trick is to do as many of these simple things as possible (like clean your air filter) since frequently they cost you nothing! You MORON''s want to make fun of a simple idea but it''s effective. If you were to raise American mileage by 3% the effect would be fantastic to our useage, but that''s right , go like IDIOT Reagan, conservation is un-American!!! - Reply to this comment
- I think it''s great that seniors wouldn''t have to pay income taxes. I know this bothers our leaders who retire and have all their benefits paids for by our tax dollars. Seniors have put in their time and as a rule on fixed incomes, or minimal at best. Why shouldn''t they finally get a break. Even if we continue to work it''s because of the deplorable condition of our economy that has taken money out of our pockets let alone be first on the firing list and without benefits, unlike our elected leaders.

- It is a sad state of affairs, in America, when people have a problem with giving seniors that make less the 50K a year a tax break but say NOTHING about corporations that pay NO TAX AT ALL because they move offshore.
posted by lvdragonlady at 05:06 PM : Aug 12, 2008
Now,now ...let''s not criticize the big corporations or the tax breaks given to them and big oil. Why didn''t know we owe our very existence to them? Tut,tut. Just ask bobmarisol, he''ll set you straight! Hahahaha! By the way, bobmarisol, thanks for the website info. I''m still trying to figure out how to read the tables. Hahahaha! - Reply to this comment

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two-thirds of U.S. corporations paid no federal income taxes between 1998 and 2005, according to a new report from Congress.
The study by the Government Accountability Office, expected to be released Tuesday, said about 68 percent of foreign companies doing business in the U.S. avoided corporate taxes over the same period.
Collectively, the companies reported trillions of dollars in sales, according to GAO''s estimate.
"It''s shameful that so many corporations make big profits and pay nothing to support our country," said Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., who asked for the GAO study with Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich.

...Also, your comment about Bush was more motivated by your emotions than the facts. The reality is that Bush has done an excellent job of protecting us from terrorism since 9/11. We have had ZERO attacks on USA soil, and over 2/3 of Al Queda''''s leadership has been killed or captured.
Posted by bobmarisol at 04:21 PM : Aug 12, 2008
I''m still waiting for you to give me the percentage of corporations who pay very little or NO TAXES. And to defend their position is ridiculous to me!
My comment about bush is a fact and not based on emotion. Did he or did he not increase our budget deficit as a result of pouring billions upon billions of our tax dollars into his Iraq war? AND I might add that many billions of those dollars disappeared without being accounted for ''into that rathole called Iraq. That''s also a fact, not emotion. I think you are a young misguided bushite who has been taken in by this farce called ''the war on terrorism''. Your comment about bush protecting us from terrorist attack doesn''t apply to his first year in office, obviously. As for the percentage of Al Queda killed, bush hasn''t taken out their leadership 7 years after they carried out their attacks. I''d call that a pretty pi$$ poor performance record wouldn''t you? Of course it could be just my emotions kicking in....- Reply to this comment

"But he tends to play down or ignore Mr. Obama%u2019s proposals to eliminate taxes for retirees earning less than $50,000 a year and to give tax breaks to workers earning less than $75,000 annually.
%u201CMcCain is picking the areas where rates go up and ignoring the areas where Obama is trying to rebalance the tax code so that taxpayers would save,%u201D said John Irons, research and policy director at the Economic Policy Institute, which is generally viewed as sympathetic to working families. Mr. Irons said that %u201Cthe important thing is to look at overall impact on people%u201D and that on this score, %u201Cthe vast majority of the population, almost the entirety of the middle class, would see more from Obama than McCain.%u201D
Economists have also criticized the methodology behind Mr. McCain%u2019s assertion that Americans from all kinds of backgrounds could end up paying thousands of dollars more in taxes if Mr. Obama got his way. - A ploy to get the senior vote. Thankfully, most of them aren''t that stupid or feeble to fall for this Obama gimmick and come-on.

- Ah, yes, more socialism if Obama gets elected. All Obama wants to do is take from those that work hard and keep doling out the handouts and gimmes to those that don''t deserve it. For sure, he will totally bankrupt the nation if he were to become the ruler of the new world order. Does this mean then that he will tax non-seniors an even greater rate beyond his wanting to tax, tax, tax and then tax some more?

- Over at the other story the slime ball dimwitocrats dug up two psychologists that pined Edwards cheating all on Mrs. Edwards cancer/sickness. This has got to be a new low for trying to deflect the bad news away from John Edwards. Just pin it on the wife. Unbelievable.

- By the way, it is the top 1% of wage earners who pay 40% of the total federal tax bill - not the top 5% as you stated.

- This is true. And the top 10% pay 70% of the taxes.

.....................
OK let me make it a little simpler for you.
MIDDLE CLASS
Marginal rate 25% + 12% Payroll tax = 37%
RICH (1,000k )
Marginal rate 35% 1% payroll tax = 36%
VERY RICH
Capitol Gains Tax 15% 1% payroll tax = 16%
When you consider the rich can shelter much more of thier income the figures really get lopsided. - Reply to this comment
