- McCain urged NATO to reconsider its decision to withhold a "membership action plan" for Georgia, saying it "might have been viewed as a green light by Russia for its attacks on Georgia."
In the spring of 1950, Dean Acheson, secretary of state for Truman, gave a speech on Asia, in which he mentioned that South Korea was not all that important to US security. According to his speech, keeping Japan anti-Communist was the most important part of America''s Asian defense perimeter.
Acheson implied the American "defensive perimeter" did not extend to South Korea. Stalin read the speech carefully %u2014 as well as the top-secret National Security Council study upon which it was based.
Stalin told Molotov, to discuss it with Mao Zedong. Stalin then informed Kim Il-Sung that "according to information coming from the United States, . . . the prevailing mood is not to interfere. Stalin gave the green light to invade in June of 1950.
The failure of the Bush Administration to secure NATO membership for Georgia gave Putin the green light to invade. - Reply to this comment
- Funny thing - this article is getting LESS attention than the FLUFF pieces.
Maybe that''s indicative of the BURNOUT Americans are feeling concerning manipulation through corporate controlled war. - Reply to this comment
- Unfortunately this is NOT just a conflict between the countries of Georgia and Russia.
There ARE other players in the background egging this conflict on.
Just As the conflict in Iraq and potential conflict in Iran - this has a VERY lucrative possibility for CORPORATE interests in OIL and War profiteering.
The Russian oil fields need a pipeline and WHOEVER controls that pipeline stands to make a LOT of wealth and power. The Kurdish part of one pipeline might be at stake as well as the Georgian part of another pipeline.
The sale of the vast Russian DIAMOND vaults and sales of their OIL to CHINA by Russia could be used to subsidize their side.
"NATO" interests are a bit more constricted as far as assets to cover the costs of war materials since they are being used to protect OPIUM assets in Afghanistan and CORPORATE International Middle East OIL that is being Nailed down by the 5 top "Western Oil" Corporations.
This IS shaping up to being an end all "INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION" RUN WORLD WAR.
It''s promising to shape up to FEUDAL style Mercenary controlled war. - Reply to this comment
- A small country cannot withstand a barrage of missiles guided by satellites. Georgia should concede to the Russian Army. The Russian Government is protecting their oil fields in Central Asia. They will not allow Georgia to take exclusive control of the ports, border, and land routes. Thousands of people should not die because of a dispute over an industrial need.

- What a typical response from a typical hotheaded blowhard.
"..implications for NATO''s future relationship with Russia," McCain said."
The man clearly does not reside in the real world. Does he think threatening Russia is going to make any difference? Those days are long gone.
The US, thanks the shrub, is weak in both military might and foreign influence. Russia has been watching the steady drain of US resources in the middle east and has decided that now is a good time to makes its move. They are going to LAUGH in our face if such imperiousness comes out of the shrub administration.
They know, as does NATO, that the US is powerless here. Powerless to force them to do anything WITHOUT compensation. The only thing Russia is going to listen to here is a LOT of carrots.
There isn''t a stick big enough to force them to withdraw without economic compensation. - Reply to this comment

He didn''t study under Wright. His Church is a mega Church with several rotating Pastors. Wright spoke some Sundays and not others, and neither you nor I know how often he went off on diatribe.
What I do know is that Obama hasn''t had Wright speaking at his rallies like McCain has done with Hagee, but I don''t think what somone''s Preacher does is the most important issue to be worried about at the moment.
I don''t think Obama has acted immaturely; I do think Bush & McCain have. Just as age is no guarantee of maturity, seniority is no guarantee of judgement or accomplishment.
Obama has as much legislation to his credit in 2 years in the Senate as McCain has in 26 years. Obama has run an efffective campaign organiztion while McCain has had constant financial and staff disruptions. That''s part of how I measure readiness. - Reply to this comment
- Realpatriot- so given your statement- then it is illogical to vote in another immature unproven man- that is Obama. If you want to speak of harshness how about the 20 years Obama studied under Rev Wright and hated white Americans?? Aren''''t you the hypocrit.

Have you seen John McCain being told what to say in his ear by Joe Lieberman on that YouTube video? Joe Lieberman had to repeat himself more then twice about who the shiites and sunnis were like a ventriliquist wooden dummy.
That video alone should absolutely scare the pants off you dude. Why would you want a wooden dummy in the White House.
John McSame knows about as much on "world affairs" as the pile that I stepped in by accident yesterday walking around the yard.
It''s better to have someone who has "solid judgement" and the "gut instinct" to stay out of people''s backyards.
We have the military capabalities to protect ourselves, that''s all that matters. - Reply to this comment

- "Bagdad John McBush (SURRRRGE, DRRRILLLL!)" McCain, has called for an end to fighting in Georgia. As if anyone is going to listen to him!
At first, upon learning of fighting raging in Georgia, McCain bellowed out that "the South shall NOT rise again while he was in charge!". It was then that the ever-faithful Joe Lieberman whispered in his ear, that it wasn''t the STATE of Georgia where the fighting was going on, but the COUNTRY of Georgia!
Now totally confused, "DRRRRILLLLL!" McCain responded that when elected/appointed Great Emperor, he would make sure that Union Forces did not burn Atlanta this time and that General Sherman would behave himself!!!!
SIG HEIL, BUSH!!!!!!
sig heil, "SURRRRRGE!", McCain!!!! - Reply to this comment

- What amazes me more then anything is that no one in America demanded that we construct a "defense shield" over Europe; absolutely no one.
So what does that tell ya?
It says that we do not have a democracy in this country whatsoever. All of our leaders especially the the President are just British puppets and agents doing the will of the British East India Company Global Financial Empire.
Until we realize that, the situation is hopeless. These British oligarchs will stop at nothing until the population is reduced by at least 2/3rds.
Our very lives depends on understanding this basic fact. - Reply to this comment
- What "reward" are you going for from them? I''''ve heard some of those are pretty impressive.

The American people already entrusted the nation''s security to an immature and unpoven man. He''s currently touring the People''s Republic.
If you want to talk about maturity you might want to review the latest McCain ads and public statements. If he would call his wife by the C word and joke about entering her in a topless bikini contest he might just grope the Chancellor of Germany. I forgot President Dopey already did that! - Reply to this comment
- The British once again sets up the "Cowboy in Chief" with his side kick "Condileeza Con" to naively use unequivocal rhetoric to box the U.S. into WWIII.
Do we really want another Republican in the White House like John McCain. The man freighten me more then Bush.
And besides why can''t we let "white folks kill white folks" like we allow in Africa and encourage the European Union to handle it''s own affairs.
There''s no oil in Georgia, the British oligarchs and the so-called monarchies of Europe just want to lay oil pipelines through the territory to complete their "power circuit" and spread serfdom.
Obama has it right, "condemn the bloodshed" and butt out. Don''t act like a stupid cowboy like George W and Richard Cheney. We cannot afford WWIII because this time it will land on our soil. - Reply to this comment
- Our united purpose should be to persuade the Russian government to cease its attacks, withdraw its troops and enter into negotiations with Georgia," McCain said. "We must remind Russia''s leaders that the benefits they enjoy from being part of the civilized world require their respect for the values, stability and peace of that world."
NEGOTIATE??? Did McCain really say that??? Isn''t that what OBAMA has been saying all along??
If these neocons running this country ever had a good idea of their own, they''d stroke out! - Reply to this comment
- Where is Obama? Keeping his mouth shut which is what McCain should be doing.
The one who should be talking is still on vacation in Beijing. - Reply to this comment
