- Al Gore didn''''t create the internet he fostered it.

He''s also been on Apple''s board of directors. Since 2003. http://www.computertakeback.com/ (look around for corporate responsibility, apple, etc...) has a slew of inaction on Apple''s part and it seems only after greenpeace started to froth did they do anything about their own problems. Did Al have no clout with the CEO?
Of course, snopes also proved President Bush''s ranch is far, far greener than Gore''s mcmansion... and Al''s own holding stock in messy energy companies and claiming ''carbon credit cards'' or some other hocus pocus... If he has really been involved for decades, he''d have walked the walk he loved to talk... there''s more than plenty out there showing Al''s own actions proving he''s just a pile of walking words. 0 clout. Don''t call us "haters" for pointing out inconvenient truths... - Reply to this comment

- How many millions or billions of dollars will Gore make off of these GLOBAL WARMING scare tactic of his?
Global warning if a natural happening and have be going on for as long as the earth has been around.
Man can clean up the mess to make earth a nicer place to live BUT he can not stop Global Warming or Cooling. - Reply to this comment
- This goal should have started in 1979 as initiated by Carter (http://www.mnforsustain.org/energy_speec
h_president_carter.html). Unfortunately it was abondoned by Reagon administration with full backing of the American public (who made fun of it at that time.)It is about 20 years too late - Reply to this comment
- Energy storage is as simple as building a reservoir 500-1000ft above another reservoir (or the ocean), then pumping water to the upper reservoir when the power is available, and capturing that energy by draining that water to the lower reservoir when needed. Conversion efficiencies top 80%.
Water electrolysis and recombination is another method of energy storage, though efficiencies are lower. - Reply to this comment
- FFarkel said: "Question is can you afford to pay for it?" I think we just spent a trillion dollars securing the worlds second largest proven oil reserve. Can we afford NOT to pay for it?

Ubrew12, take a look at your math again
You state 0.85watts/square inch
Take this and multiply by 144 square inches per square foot gives you 122.4 watts per square foot.
Take this and divide by 1000 to get to kilowatts gives you 0.1224 kilowatts/ square foot
Multiply this by your 900 square foot available gets you 110.16 kilowatts per rooftop.
Your 10% efficiency this yields 10 kw per rooftop.
1000kwh per month consumption comes out to approximately 33 kwh per day.
10 kw for 6 hours yields 60 kwh per day of power
Offset by usage gives us a net of 27 kwh back to the grid.
27 kwh netted would only require 31,296,296 residences to get the job done.
Of course, this doesn%u2019t account the inefficiencies of trying to store and reconvert that power so it%u2019d be available the other 18 hours per day when the panels are not producing%u2026.
I never said it couldn%u2019t be done%u2026 Question is can you afford to pay for it?- Reply to this comment

- All of California''s electricity can be produced from 200 square miles of sunshine; 128,000 acres of desert land. Lake Mead, behind Hoover Dam, covers more than 200 square miles. Given an area the size of Lake Mead, for the production of electricity from solar energy, California would be energy independent.

- In a March 1999 interview with Wolf Blitzer, Gore said, "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet."
The inventor of the Mosaic Browser, Marc Andreesen, credits Gore with making his work possible. He received a federal grant through Gore''s High Performance Computing Act. The University of Pennsylvania''s Dave Ferber says that without Gore the Internet "would not be where it is today."
Joseph E. Traub, a computer science professor at Columbia University, claims that Gore "was perhaps the first political leader to grasp the importance of networking the country. - Reply to this comment
- What, if anything, did Gore actually do to create the modern Internet?
According to Vincent Cerf, a senior vice president with MCI Worldcom who''s been called the Father of the Internet, "The Internet would not be where it is in the United States without the strong support given to it and related research areas by the Vice President in his current role and in his earlier role as Senator."
