In Interview With CBSNews.com, Ex-McCain Rival Flashes VP-Type Style
- To theswedes1:
Please get your facts straight sir. You said "Let''s not forget that Huckabee dropped out after his first year of college."
Huckabee did NOT drop out after his first year of college. He dropped out after his first year of seminary IN ORDER TO TAKE UP A JOB in broadcasting.
PRIOR TO THIS, he graduated MAGNA *** LAUDE from Ouachita Baptist University. HE WAS SO SMART that it only took him 2= years to complete his bachelor''s degree in Religion.
He also has two honorary doctoral degrees: a Doctor of Humane Letters, received from John Brown University in 1991, and a Doctor of Laws from Ouachita Baptist University in 1992.
As you can see Governor Huckabee is a very brilliant man. So please, next time check your facts before attacking people.
Thank you Sir. - Reply to this comment
- McCain would be crazy to pick anyone other than Romney. GOPers were naive and mistaken to back either McCain or Huckabee in the primary.
As the economy slides ever deeper into the dark abyss it becomes crystal clear what role a president like Romney could accomplish. ::SIGH:: I shake my head at this missed opportunity to have Romney lead us out of this mess. Can anyone say national debt doubling overnight to bail out lenders?
At least we now have a shot to have Romney in there as VP.
That Mike Huckabee is even on the radar at this point shows how out of touch with reality these anti-Mormon evangelicals are. They would sell out our economic future to keep a Mormon out of office.
Let''s not forget that Huckabee dropped out after his first year of college. Romney earned simultaneous JD/MBA degree from Harvard and has made a lifetime work out of fixing broken economies. This is the biggest no-brainer decision in history. - Reply to this comment
- The presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama leads John McCain by 24 percentage points among California voters, coming in at 54 percent to 30 percent. A New York Times/CBS News poll released Tuesday put Obama in the lead nationwide, beating McCain 45 percent to 39 percent.
Obama''s lead over McCain has doubled since the first time Field pollsters compared the two candidates in March of 2007. Notably, the poll found that the Illinois senator had consolidated the support of those who voted for Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary in February.
"That''s certainly a big deal," said Mark DiCamillo, director of the Field Poll.
Obama''s lead means California - with its coveted 55 electoral votes - is virtually locked-in as a blue state come the November election.

- I love reading comments from a bunch of liberal CBS news fans, and people who are good conservatives and think that Huckabee is the same. Faith in God does not in and of itself make a conservative. Look at Huck''s record on dealing with illegal immigrants and criminals in general in Arkansas. Not to mention his liberal views increasing government run social programs. He is no conservative. It''s easy McCain, lose the ego and the liberal tendencies and pick Mitt or lose.

- I believe 7 essential V.P. qualities:
1. Trustworthy: to be moral & ethical... without trust no other qualilty matters. i.e. Clinton''s downfall, if wife cannot trust why should ''we the people?''
2. Intelligent: wisdom to assess domestic or international situations
3. Wisdom to determine effective foreign or domestic intervention as needed
4. Strength of character: to stand firm and withstand media manufactered "poll" results
5. Demonstrates effective leadership qualities: to fulfill foreign and domestic political agenda
6. Economic/financial expertise
7. International acumen: with TOTAL personal and political commitment to U.S.A.
These qualities are realized in only one candidate: Mitt Romney. - Reply to this comment

- To lib crusher: Your kind of rational argument is what we have come to expect from the Romney supporters.

- To jmcgilvray: Sorry to disagree, but the evidence is that the economic conservatives persuaded the social conservatives to vote for George Bush, and then saw a regime that was at great variance with social conservative values. Mitt Romney would continue that policy. Mike Huckabee would not. He is not a flunky of the multinational corporations and is the one man that could save John McCain from losing the election. No worries about him instating a theocracy: you can check his 10 years as governor of Arkansas.

- Mike Huckabee is the only conservative who has fresh, innovative ideas, communicates effectively with those on the right and left, and believes that we must value every life equally if we are to be the greatest nation on earth. He has the executive experience, national recognition, and appeal to social conservatives that McCain does not have.
Huckabee for VP!!!!!!!!!!!! - Reply to this comment
- Mike Huckabee was Governor of Arkansas for over 10 years. He is undoubtedly John McCain''s best VP pick!
Survey USA took a series of polls to determine the VP candidate (out of Huckabee, Lieberman, Pawlenty, and Romney) who would help John McCain the most.
They took polls in PA, NM, VA, CA, OH, IA, KS, WI, NE, OR, NY, MA, MN, AL, KY, and MO.
In almost every case, Governor Mike Huckabee did best. He even had a slight lead in Massachusetts where Romney was once Governor!
There have been five bellwether states - Ohio, Missouri, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Arkansas - that have correctly predicted the winner of the General Election for each of the past eight elections (dating back to 1976). Of those, in the GOP Primaries, Huckabee won the popular vote in two of them (Arkansas and Louisiana), coming in second to McCain in the other three. McCain won the popular vote in three of them (Ohio, Missouri and Kentucky), coming in second to Huckabee in the other two. The margin between the two in the state of Missouri was extremely narrow. And in the state of Kentucky, Huckabee even managed to come in second to John McCain three and a half months after he suspended his campaign and endorsed McCain.
Governor Huckabee would be a great Vice President. Even Mitt Romney thinks so! At a town hall meeting back in December (before Iowa) he was asked what he thought of Huckabee as VP. Romney replied: "Sure, he%u2019s a wonderful person... He%u2019d make a great vice president." - Reply to this comment
- LOL, I love the neocons obsession with "true Americanism." They don''''t care if you''''re a bad leader who makes bad choices like George Bush as long as you are a "true American," as evidenced by wearing flag pins and running up the largest deficit in history.

The only bad decision Bush ever made was pretending that Dems are people too! - Reply to this comment
- Forget Romney. His experience consists of being a 1 term governor of Taxachusetts, a failed bid for U.S. Senate, and an miserably unsuccessful attempt to buy the Republican Presidential nomination. If McCain wants someone with REAL economic expertise and experience the only choice is CARLY FIORINA. She will win over the independents and Hillary Democrats and actually make a significant contribution as the Vice President. McCain-Fiorina 2008. Now that''s change you can believe in.

- McCain couldn''t do better than Romney who has a lot of pluses and just a few negatives. McCain would also get Michigan who which has had just about a snoot full of Democrats. Their Governor is pretty but truly brain dead.

- "Will Romney''''s Combative Style Net VP Nod?
Well I don''''t know what the author of this "story" ever got the adjective "Combative" from.
I, like a lot of Americans, have never seen a "combative" Mitt Romney.
We have seen someone that is probably the most-rounded and complete person that could run for president.
Mitts father marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mitts mother ran for the US Senate from Michigan in the 1960''''s.
She was one of the first woman in America to ever to so.
An M & M ticket would be hard to beat on November 4th.
One thing is for sure our mostly liberal MSM wolfpack press "hates" Mitt because they know he''''s the one to add the most to John McCains chances of winning the White House on November 4th....... - Reply to this comment
- IF MCCAIN CHOOSES ROMNEY THEY COULD HAVE A VERY GOOD TOAST TO EACH OTHER AT THE CONVENTION WITH THEIR FAVORITE BEERS: "MCCAIN---THIS euroBUD''S FOR YOU....ROMNEY---CHEERS TO POLYGAMY PORTER, WHEN ONE IS JUST NOT ENOUGH!" rrrrrrIBBIT!!

- IT WOULD BE NICE IF MCCAIN CHOSE THE MONTANA LEGISLATOR WALTER MCNUTT AS HIS VP: "MCCAIN...MCNUTT" ....NOW THAT''''S A BUMPER STICKER EVEN DEMOCRATS WOULD PUT ON THEIR CAR!....ON THE SERIOUS SIDE....LET''''S PUT OBAMA TO WORK FOR AMERICA!!!!

John McCain is one of those old guys you like, but is slow and shouldn''t be in charge of your finances, and Romney is the quick car salesman who you KNOW hides porn in different places from his wife.- Reply to this comment
