If he come''''s out and says he has a plan to raise taxes to make the program solvent... to make up for those ENORMOUS debts they have run up, he''''s toast. - This true story was about a boy who was given by his neighbor a baby lamb to have as a pet. The boy would take the baby lamb where ever he would go throughout the day. The boy had a friend in which he could love and share special times as a little boy only knows. One day the little boys father came home drunk and with no regard killed the baby lamb that boy loved so much. The boy cried out my baby lamb is dead. The boy grieved and grieved. This set him apart from his father. He ran away from home until 1 day he was at a soup kitchen in which you had 2 hear a sermon before you ate. The speaker 4 that day said He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth.
What this speaker said brought tears 2 the man eyes remembering that his baby lamb was killed when he was a small boy. How could anyone kill Gods son Jesus he ask the speaker? The speaker replied, It was Gods plan out of his love for us that Jesus would die for your sins and mine, our debt paid in full, and that you can claim this promise from God by calling on Jesus, God manifested in the flesh, 2 be your savior so you will have eternal life with a relationship with him, born again. The man calls on Jesus in prayer believing Jesus died for his sins he thanks God for sending his Son to die for him. Then the man thinks to himself I wonder if God cried when Jesus his son died? The result is MORE poverty, more PREVENTABLE ILLNESSES, more of a wealth gap, MORE crime and violence as the DISPARITY increases and MORE dissatisfaction in the order of things until it reaches a "tipping point" where UPHEAVAL through ANY means necessary returns SOME semblance of balance.

- note the money lent to the govt is being held their in bonds at interest. I would ask anybody else where the money that is not needed be held. Maybe they should stow it under the matress or heaven forfend as bush suggested some should be invested privately. Comes now the Obama movement, filled with people who have some really bizarre notions about reality without any supporting facts other than their own fevered opinions.
Get a grip. The only people who have benefitted from the bilking of social security is the Congress persons who used it as a source of funds to overspend, improving the likelihood that they would be re-elected by casual voters.
The idea that privatizing social security is going to somehow jeopardize it makes as much sense as saying that allowing private industry to build railroads, automobiles or airplanes would jeopardize transportation. Where is anything that the government has built? Almost everything we know and enjoy has been built by business. Government does not create or build. It redistributes, or destroys.
The argument against "privatizing" social security is so stupid that it is insulting. If private investment is dangerous, the big government employee pension funds wouldn''t be putting their money there. - Reply to this comment

I think you need to reread my post.
SSA was never intended to be a source of loans and was changed after it was implemented .. thats all I was saying.
I agree deficits matter, my point is and was that if they would have allowed Clinton/Gore to lock down social security at least there would be that safety net still solvent.

- Actually if you look back at it originally it was NOT doomed to failure at the start.
It BECAME doomed the minute a later congress *tweaked* the bill to allow them to *borrow* from the fund, THATS when the Ponzi scheme kicked in.
Had the fund been locked down 10 years ago when it was last attempted SSA wouldn''''t be in the pickle its in now, we would still be trillions in debt due to the war but SSA would be OK.

That is part true, the Nazi''s over the last 3 decades HAVE used the Trust as more or less a slush fund to buy themselves out of the deficit''s created by their "Trickle Down" Economics. BUT, if you care to research the debates of 2000 you will find that under the Clinton Economy the DEBT, where the trust money goes to die, was down so much that it was going to be paid off in 5 years. THAT would have resulted in the Trust being solvent and as healthy as it was BEFORE the Fascist Republican''s came along. EVERYONE should look those debates up and refresh your memory. They have been trying for decades to destroy the Social Security program.
Their latest effort/scheme is to try to destroy it through privatizing it.
Now, by driving the country so deeply in debt that it is sure to cause the greatest depression in history, they just may have found a way to not only eliminate the Social Security program but to force every working class American into virtual slavery at the same time.

- Nothing I have seen to this point draws a clearer line between these two than this issue. Obama has a specific CLEAR idea as to what he wants to do with Social Security. McSame?
