journalist totally praising their

Russert was a hack.
He was only slightly better than your average member of the lapdog media but not enough to make a difference.
All of American "journalism" serves only one purpose: to support the powers that be. Most recently it''''s been the Republican Party and Bush. They are rabidly partisan and beholden to the people who pay their salaries - which is to say the corporations.
Russert was rich and successful and powerful because of the role he played in supporting the system, not reporting it. If he was an honest journalist he would have been fired long ago.

Most Americans are not fooled.

- cdfox, the public cannot mention Nixon and Watergate unless you want to get into the Bay of Pigs thing. If you want to go down that path, then even Nixon himself said that the Kennedy assasination would require being revealed. Nobody wants to get into these things now......

- I am saddened by anyone''s death and Russert''s is no exception. Yet, there are people who die every day that never receive the praise and notice they deserve. Let''s not forget that. There are times that I wouldn''t mind killing some of you. The fact is that life is precious and I don''t for that reason. Let''s express our sorrow to Tim''s family and friends because they were a part of his life. As for the rest of you, I would like to take a chainsaw to y

- It''s too bad these "legendary journalists", Russert included, didn''t apply their investigative talents to challenge the rush to war and the motives behind it, back in ''03. Russert would have had a more substantive legacy, had he had the courage and conviction to stand up to the establishment at the time, in the way journalists did during Nixon''s time.

- Oh, geez; Exxon Mobil is sponsoring this too? "Autopsy confirms Mr. Russert was killed by high gas prices." I can almost see it now. How shameful, CBS.
Seriously, this man was extremely intelligent, and I think fair, honest and balanced. It is truly a shame that his passing occurred just before the biggest election of our history, because he seemed to thrive on elections and have a lot to offer everyone in terms of his insight.
I saw an interview with him where he was the interviewee and earned a whole new respect for his knowledge, dignity and true father''s love for his son.
America has lost a great, great man and my sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. Some things will never be the same. God Speed, our friend. - Reply to this comment
- This is such a loss...and such a shock. Tim was a giant amoung giants and I hope those left behind in the field took lots of notes and paid close attention to the passion Tim put into what he did...because they have HUGE shoes to fill. Rest in peace and prayers go with the family.

- I am still shocked and saddened. Sunday morning WAS Meet the Press with Tim Russert. My wife and I will miss him greatly and send our most profound condolences to his family, friends and co-workers. He was a true, honest, straightforward and great person and journalist.
I am glad to see that CBS closed comments on the other threads because of some of the hurtful and hateful things some people posted there. Let''s hope they keep their issues to themselves and not post them here. This is above politics and religion. - Reply to this comment
