PS Like I guess you could always count on platforms and an icky alternative (McCain) to make the choice for people, but I don''t know . . . a lot of women can really hold a grudge. There tends to be a lot of vindictive satisfaction for women in passively-aggressively seeing the person who beat the person you supported succumb to the same fate . . .

I worry about just taking that for granted . . .

I''d be shocked if Hillary doesn''t try to take it to the convention, have we ever seen a side of her that would put the party ahead of her own ambition? My take is that she rationalizes the selfishness by thinking that it''s up to Barack to dot all the i''s and cross all the t''s she sets out and if he can''t that''s evidence he''s not able to ''beat'' her, and therefore she''s clearly the superior candidate, and therefore she''s doing the world a favor. Never mind that if the shoe were on the other foot, she''d never be able to connect with the ever-moving goal-posts, and never mind that that kind of self-serving thinking would totally be ignoring time constraints.

I can''t help but wonder what the plan might be to unite the party. All the party elders like my childhood role model Nancy Pelosi say putting them on the same ticket wouldn''t be a good idea, so I take her at her word. But I wonder about bringing women back into the fold - you think it might help to offer Hillary a face-saving ''out'' like a cabinet position where she''d be accountable to the public for following through? Because the party elders also seem to worry that having a woman VP like Gov. Sebelius might be too much ''change'' which might alienate white men (?)
