Why are Democrats always 5 years behind the science?

Coskata, an ethanol partnership with GM is building a pilot plant which will open next year. It uses switchgrass, biowaste and other "cellulosic" material...no corn. They are saying they can make ethanol for $1.00 a gallon -- yes, one buck.

I doubt it. Sounds like a sales pitch to lure investors....

What I can''t figure out is the tunnel vision focus on corn (or wheat).
There are many things that can be fermented into alcohol .. sugar beets come to mind ... they grow in places that would stunt a corn crop, require far less fertilizer and tending.
I''m sure there are quite a few farmers on less than ideal land that would welcome an opportunity to grow a real cash crop.

Obama should be listened to here. He has an extensive background in organic chemistry, agriculture, and chemical engineering.
If you don''t believe me check his college transcripts.

Hillary, reminiscent of Leonardo da Vinci in this case, states, "What we need to do is accelerate the research into farm waste and into other cellulosic plant materials. Because, I think, instead of using the corn, let''s figure out if we can use the corn cob," Yes, I can think of one use for the corn cob...

Question, how many cows and horses does the usa have? Enough to create methane from their waste? Why just Corn, why not methane from high strain bacteria for fermenting methane to burn in some auto''s America has not even tapped the bright collegiate types and no real interest from them because there is no monetary reward high enough yet.....Bet someone is going to make a zillion dollars approaching this energy crisis differently enough to spawn new thought on ways to conquer this and send the Mideast suppliers a message of A less dependent and smarter USA.

ubrew12, your characterization of Max Cleland is deceptive. He did not lose 3 limbs on the battlefield. He certainly lost them to a grenade but it was his own fault in picking up a grenade in a field for want of a souvenir.

It is sad it happened and I don''t denigrate his service but it was an accident as opposed to a "battlefield" wounding as you imply.

I am outraged that Senator Obama has said the Gas Tax Holiday is Silly. Silly? It must be nice for Senator Obama to live in such a way that a savings on gas of $25 or $30 in a season is nothing to him.

And for households with two or more cars needing to be driven to different jobs, the savings per household goes up even more. Every dollar counts. It has comes down to a choice between gas and food. Some vague tax credit next year to those who don''t earn enough to pay income tax is no help at all. Senator Obama must live in a whole different world for rich people.

With respect to Senator Obama''''s comments about Reverend Wright on April 29, 2008: What? Has Senator Obama been in a coma for 20 years? Did he sleep through the sermons? Was he even there? His hangdog story that he ALL OF A SUDDEN figured out what Reverend Wright is about insults my intelligence. If he is that dense, why on Earth would anybody want to vote for him?

Senator Obama is not rebounding all that much. I hope I don''''t have to look at Reverend Wright on TV for the rest of my life. He won less than 40% of the vote in Iowa. Vote for Hillary Clinton!

When do we get the stories on Hillary''s ex-pastor who was convicted of molestation and on the Paul v. Clinton suit against her husband in which she will be required to testify?
I can''t wait until this hits!!! she will be done!

How does ''CIA intel'' figure into the SCHEDULING OF A WAR VOTE? THAT''S politics, all the way.

Dude, you had the chance to give me a reasonable answer to my ''war vote scheduling'' charge, and your response was ''CIA intel (i.e. its all Bill Clintons fault). Now I KNOW you''re just a Republican shill.

On the subject of CIA intel: what good is it if the administration doesn''t want to hear it? This administration went to the extreme of HIRING THEIR OWN intelligence group under Cheney, to give them the ''intel'' they wanted.

Under Bush, the CIA has been as relevant on covert intelligence as the EPA has been on the environment.

At least he''s willing to admit that farmland should be used for FOOD production. We also should consider nationalizing some agriculture like we did forests so we can always have enough food production to feed our nation.

ubrew, I just do not think Cheney is all that powerful.

He is smart and knows how to work the system but "all powerful"? I don''t think so.

The issue is really that we had pathetic intel because of the decline in the CIA during the 90''s.

donbl1 said: "ubrew, 21 out of 50 Democratic Senators said no. I guess they were the strong ones"

Strong in character, or just in demographics??? WHOEVER scheduled that vote had NOTHING riding on it of personal political importance. Certainly not their JOB. But many Democrats who voted against the war LOST THEIR JOB, over their vote!!!

Its one thing to play politics... but over a WAR VOTE??? Knowing that thousands of Americans may LOSE THEIR LIVES over your political games???

THAT is seriously fvcked UP!!!

and THAT, is how SERIOUSLY fvcked up Cheney/Rove ARE...
