Comments on: Transcript: Barack Obama's Speech On Race
- BarbJC1,
This "divide and conquer" mentality has got to stop. Many of us know about Native American history. Many blacks were ENSLAVED by Native Americans and many have Native American ancestry.
You act as though after slavery ended everyone opened the doors and said BE ALL YOU CAN BE. What happened after slavery WAS EVEN WORSE than slavery. Did you forget about the Civil Rights Movement? This didn''t happen in 1863. Do you know anything? Do you know about the lynchings were people took body parts of other people for souvenirs and send post cards through the mail? Pictures of the killings with the actual killers standing there because they knew they wouldn''t be prosecuted for anything. Do you know about places like The Greenwood district of Tulsa, Oklahoma? Did you know that race riots in America for the greatest part of American history didn''t involve blacks but whites? Do you know the FULL history? Do you? - Reply to this comment
- The question should be who is most presidential - who has shown themselves to be the most honest, forthright, and willing to discuss issues with the american public - hands down that is Barack Obama. When Hillarys'' campaign created issues for her HE stepped forward and defused the issue twice in order to get back to talking about US issues - not her, she allows similar attacks on Obama to go without action as it might help her in her failing campaign. Hillary has so many skeletons in her closet it would be easy (and will be by Rebuplicans) to dispatch her in short order - but the Obama campaign has not gone there - they have kept this race about US issues, not personal issues. The Clinton campaign loves to bring up personal issues - just another example that the Clintons are old gaurd and the whole election is about driving down an opponent to a level below yours so you can win - Obama believes you do what''s right to rise above your opponent. Time for change, ABSOLUTELY - let''s hope the US public doesn''t crumble under the negativity of the Clintons, but embraces the positivness of Obama.

- Why is FOX News the most watched cable news network? Well, the spin on the "Obama Reverend" speech on CBS "Up to the Minute" this AM is one of the many reasons. Not once in the favoring spin for Obama was the simple question of WHY did Obama not condemn his minister or leave his church of roughly 20 years after he knew of his reverend''s hate years ago, and he knew it....Obama is not a blithering idiot, but is a liar if he denies this level of hatred coming from the Rev? So many things about this hate church is coming out. Visits and praise with Louis Farakahn by this Rev, etc? You have to wonder what is in the Real Obama mind? Is there a mask hiding his favoring belief in the Reverend Wright''s words? You have to wonder once again about the mainstream media''s motives for leaving out a very critical aspect of the Rev story.

Racism, is still a huge problem in this country, and for you to dismiss it as an imaginative perception by blacks as simply to reap some kind of benefit from the government is silly. Open your eyes, this nation has racism enwoven into its fabric.

The post to which you respond is an example of why many of us disagree with Mr. Obama''s statement that "White" racism is not endemic, We have been shown since the beginning of the history of the US, that it is.
BarbJC1 is a typical modern racist, who seeks to deny the existence of the very attitude that BarbJC1 demonstrates. It is intentional obfuscation. Rev. Wright may be blunt, but everything he railed against is either true, or has mountains of evidence pointing to it as truth, this cannot be denied, even by the most recalcitrant "white" racist.
During the 60s, I was a wide-eyed idealist, who worked for that day Dr. King spoke of, only to see progress turned back with the advent of the Reaganites, and Gingrich, and the "cultural war" that the racists insisted, and still insist of promoting.
Mr. Obama is obviously trying to play neutral, which, while perhaps politically expedient, fails to call racism out as the disease that it is, a mental disorder, the child of guilt, fear, intentional ignorance, and political manipulation.
By denying the endemic nature of it, Mr. Obama again postpones the day when we can finally drag it out into the light, and expunge it forever. - Reply to this comment

Yea, yea, yea, "We are a great nation of great people who do great things and I''ll be a great president and the other candidates will not."

- O.K., I have been hearing more than I can stomach for a life time about this racial bologna. BLACKS, read about what has been done to the Native Americans in this country. You all cry and moan and continue to want something for nothing. The Native Americans, were murdered for their land, cheating out of their money for the mineral rights, deliberately exposed to diseases etc. So some of your ancestors were slaves, how many years ago was that. 145 to be exact. The Emancipation proclamation I believe was signed into law on January 1, 1863.
A large portion of the Native American population still lives on reservations that are not fit for a dog. They have had to fight in court time and time again to get rights. Blacks, shut up and do something with the opportunities that have been given you.

You''re just a liar. Anyone who cares to compare the two transcripts which are easily found online will see that there''s no duplication. You are quoting Clinton''s speech, but none of it appears in Obama''s speech today, so give it up, liar. - Reply to this comment

- I gotta say - I was brought into this world by some of the most bigoted people in the world...
If you were Black
If you were Chinese
If you were Mexican
If you were Jewish
If you were worth a dime more (A thief)
If you were worth a dime less (A deadbeat)
In my "formative" years, I was treated to some the most dreadful conversations (I now know) ever to pass over the lips of human beings. And I ain''t just talking about my parents, I''m talking about Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins - the whole fam-damily. As well as their friends (high churchers included).
Do I agree with what I heard - absolutely not!
Am I gonna disown those people - absolutely not!
An I gonna condemn those people - absolutely not!
Do I love those people - yep, shore do!
Do I think this speech is gonna change the minds of the "BARACK HUSSIEN OBAMA" people. Nope, those minds are closed. - Reply to this comment
