That''s the problem. What we call telling the truth about America''s history of abuse, you call Anti-American.
The church, for blacks, has historically been the only forum for uncensored freedom of expression.
Yes, we hear from time to time social injustices pointed out in church.
Do the preachers harp on social issues every Sunday? No. That''s why it is very easy for me to believe Senator Obama didn''t hear those TWO particular messages.
Once in a while, yes, I can expect to hear my preacher''s views on social issues.
You seem to forget, Martin Luther King was a Reverend. Church was his regular meeting place.
Maybe the issue really is whites really need to become educated on the black experience. You see, blacks have had to live in and understand your world. You didn''t and don''t have to understand our world. TV doesn''t accurately depict it. How would you know? Snipits of one preacher during a heated election? That is so unfair. - Reply to this comment
- Cyrrius: Do you think he made any attempt to convey this same message to his pastor and mentor of 20 years?if you can''t convince a close personal freind to give up his hate for a better way-how do you think he is going to convince america and especially black america-who holds onto this hate-MLK was able to do it by preaching that hate only holds you in the past to move into the future you have to let go of it

I just could not believe that I cried, and tears still well up in my eyes, because finally a politician has morality. Finally, someone stands up for the little people from ALL races, and I believe Obama is going to improve this country in every aspect. I thank God with every ounce of my being for this, as I feel it is long overdue. - Reply to this comment
- I have had my doubts about Obama, hearing what the liberal media posts around the world about Rev. Wright''s inflammatory statements, but after having the chance to read through his speech in its entirety, I will admit with pleasure that tears were brought to my eyes, and my heart has been touched. From his mouth, he stated everything that I have had hopes for, and so you know, I am white. All I have ever wanted in this country is equality, and end to racism and bigotry, a good life for ALL Americans, because we are all Americans, regardless of race. This country has far too long allowed these injustices to continue, and to hear those in the media (who in my opinion are campaigning against Obama because of race) point out the one obvious thing, that Obama is not white. When this election started, I said, "It''s about time for change". I was never for one side or the other, I have waited to hear from the candidates for myself to hear their views, and Obama, thank you so much for not being afraid to point out that it IS time America improves beyond this hatred. I have been watching the headlines, reading the latest news, and saw tonight that Obama''s speech was up for view, and I quickly proceeded to read it. I even quieted my house down, to give this man the chance he deserves, as ANY American deserves.

They were wrong when they voted for Bush...No hate here but Barack should of waited! The split between the Dems are sad...but which ever way it goes..we can not afford to have another Republican...Barack is a smart man but he also made a choice...that choice to be president and to become commander and cheif is kinda scarey when you take a hard deep look at it....I don''t agree with Rev Wright preaches....I don''t think churches should even preach politics ever! Would you go to a church that screams anti-america? - Reply to this comment
- Does it cross your mind that perhaps Mr.Obama might have tried this speech out on his pastor wright first, to see if he might accomplish with him what he says he will do for the country? If he could''nt get through to him what makes you think he can do that for america-after all mr, wright seems to hold him in high esteem-he did call him jesus-so i''m thinking he probably never gave this speech to him...because its only important that white people stick to the rules

- I cannot believe that in a nation in recession (and possibly on the brink of depression) and on the 5th anniversary of a war that has bankrupted the nation to no understandable purpose that people are still nattering on about the Rev. Moore.
Oh gosh big news that some African American ministers get stirred up and angry about life in the United States. yes indeed that is shocking and should be reported 24-7 while people rant and rave saying hateful things about Obama because they say his minister is hateful.
I hope that Mr. Obama did not overestimate the intelligence of the American people when he spoke to us like we might have brains and empathy and some sense of shared experience and fairness. - Reply to this comment

No, I could be wrong. In fact, I know I have some racial issues that people like you are helping me to heal. Thanks.
I''m just trying to give back a little of what I''m receiving. You want some? - Reply to this comment
- By the way, Senator Obama didn''t say he heard those particular controversial statements plastered on the tv. He said he heard some statements he didn''t agree with... Again, you hear what you want to hear.
I''m again convinced some people just like being as bitter as they are calling Rev. Wright. Nothing this man could do would convince you because you have your mind made up.
I''ll bet that''s the way you handle life in general. This should serve as your own personal reality check. - Reply to this comment
- Obama will win. The truth always does. If America is not ready for him, they are not worthy of him.
Those of us who heard the speech and took heed will win as well.
I personally couldn''t trust a person who would sell their soul just for a shot at presidency.
He has to do what he feels in his heart whether you agree or not. People who demand he go against what is in his heart to satisfy their own issues are immature.
You demand he throw his friend under the bus because you feel uncomfortable with him. That''s your issue. Just because you think it''s the right thing to do doesn''t mean you or people like you are right.
What if you''re wrong? I know you never even considered that. - Reply to this comment

You are a sad bitter person who is so scared of change and the future there is nothing you won''t say or do in the effort to stop it. The longer it goes, the longer you live, the more desperate you will become. Why? Because you have never stopped nor will you ever be able to stop the change that will happen. Those who attempt to stop it the worst are always those who are hurt the most by it. Change is LIFE and the time HAS come for this nation to cross this Historical Event. The time has come, as it has come in all other areas of our Nation, for this fine man. He''ll make a great President and YOU will be like all before you... forgotten. - Experts speak of "Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome" that affects soldiers returning from War, I think unaddressed racism also has its own version of "Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome" and older generation Americans who never reconciled the assassinations of Pres. John F. Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy and who also remember and lived through Jim Crow Laws and all the bad events from that era have flashbacks like Rev. Wright and blurt out anger and hurt few can understand, relate to or forgive. Sen. Obama basically said in my opinion I reject this, but I understand.

Oh I fully understand how the Reverand Wright and all those like him feel. I have to say I think I might be worse. As a young man I got on one of those bus''s to Alabama. What I found when I arrived was a mob. A mob of people, calling themselves American''s but intent on distroying the nation we live in. No, I think I would be even more bitter than the reverand. - Reply to this comment
- Well said, alton61. I am printing this transcript now so that I can have my students analyze the argument Obama makes. It IS time that we talk about race, and Barack Obama is in a unique position to address these issues eloquently, sensibly, but CANDIDLY. Only the most naive of individuals can think that this country will heal without addressing the pain and mistakes of its past. Until we talk about the uncomfortable issue of race, we will remain as "angry and confused" and unenlightened as we have been for the past 50 years.

Obama isn''t a racist. Never was and never will be. Your racisim has caused hundreds of years of pain. The anger expressed by Obama''s minister has hurt nobody. You people think your excrement of racism is purdy smelling. It aint. It never was, I don''t care how white and beautiful you think you are. - Reply to this comment
- When I listened to Sen. Obama''s speech on race it reminded me of the exchange between Tom Cruise and Jack Nickelson in the movie A Few Good Men.
Jack Nickelson: You want answers?
Tom Cruise: I think I''m entitled to them.
Jack Nickelson: You want answers?
Tom Cruise: I want the truth!
Jack Nickelson: You can''t handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls.
