Reality check.
All the candidates make promises that they may sincerely want to keep but which, when the reality of taking office happens, may not be as easy to implement as first promised, but that does not diminish the hope for favorable changes. Like any other president in history, one of the very first things they do is surround themselves with capable, select advisers and cabinet members (except Bush of course) who most match their beliefs and hopes for the future and then determine how they should go about accomplishing those goals.
Certainly, it would be naive to think that a president walks into the White House, waves a magic wand, and thus makes all his wishes come true.
It will be the same for whomever becomes president, Democrat or Republican.
Change starts at the top and all we can hope for is that Obama selects a really good staff of people who are as hopeful as he is, and that does NOT Hillary or Edwards.
I will give Obama that opportunity.

Liberty, just remember, picketers have been outside the WH for all of GWB''s presidency as well as Bill Clinton''s and even GHWB''s.

Dissent is healthy AND respected in America and even by this President. Dissent is not being restricted in America.

Where citizens have lost focus is that we must make a good choice every 4 years and we must live with that choice afterwards. There are no do-overs.

UK Soldiers who torture and kill innocent people (The Guardian Newspaper, 2-22-08), wear the British Flag on their uniform. Yet the British public condones such activity.

American military personnel have done the same. Are you a proud American everyday, every second that a piece of America corrupts the better half?

Protect the constitution of America to allow dissent or everyone would still be giving George W. Bush an 80% approval rating.

On the lapel pin,,,,,

As apparently adept a politician that Obama is,,,, why did he allow this subject to even occur?

It is a distration but some Americans will consider it to be significant.

Interesting error on his part.

It is easier to work on issues that people agree on. It is when you have the tough divisive issues that your abilities are tested. I think that Hillary Clinton has not backed down from controversial issues, that is why she is a true leader.

NO REAL AMERICAN SHOULD EVER PUT OUR FLAG DOWN. aNY AMERICAN SHOULD WEAR ANY AMERICAN FLAG WITH PRIDE!!!!!!!!!!

Jeff Jacoby, the Boston Globe columnist, has a column today about the flap last week over Sen. Barack Obama''''''''s reasons for not wearing an American flag lapel pin.

As Jacoby writes, and he''''''''s not alone in this opinion, the Democratic presidential candidate could have easily neutralized the question:

Obama could have waved off the query - "Nope, no fashion statement; I''''''''m just not a lapel-pin kind of guy" - and nobody would have given the matter a second thought. Instead he went out of his way to politicize

"The truth is that right after 9/11, I had a pin," he said. But "that became a substitute for . . . true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security." And so, he declared, "I decided I won''''''''t wear that pin on my chest. Instead, I''''''''m going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great, and hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism."

Obama brought up the subject again a day later. "I probably haven''''''''t worn a flag pin in a very long time," he told a campaign crowd in Independence, Iowa. "My attitude is that I''''''''m less concerned about what you''''''''re wearing on your lapel than what''''''''s in your heart.

You show your patriotism by how you treat your fellow Americans, especially those who serve. You show your patriotism by being true to our values and ideals." As for Americans who do wear a flag pin, Obama was scornful: "I noticed people wearing a lapel pin and not acting very patriotic."

"Plus, nothing can be said about Obama or we are all just prejudice"

What Hillary supporters on this post have been doing is called nonsense. Barack Hussein Obama is a name that was given to him by his parents. Big deal. If you an ignorant woman then she is ignorant. If you know an ignorant man, he is ignorant. If you know an ignorant black woman or black man, then they are ignorant.

Race or gender does not signify ignorance in themeselves. Nor does a name.

Barack Obama for President of the United States 2008. Period.

This is going to be a key argument throughout the entire national election.

Obama is susceptible on this point as his rating is the most liberal senator now serving (6th last year).

McCain has the bruises and missing conservative support to show his bilateral efforts.

This is not going the be the only issue but we are going to get tired of it.....

Liberty4You: Is there any reason I need to know the color that Muslim wear? I only can hold so much information than I need more RAM, quit clogging my mind with what a muslim does, I am trying to figure out what America does, not another regions religion! Lord have mercy! Green is my favorite color, though. Plus, nothing can be said about Obama or we are all just prejudice, not trying to learn a presidential candidate. Sad but true.

Hassan Nemazee, who is this? What, working for Clinton a as a finance manager for her campaign. With a name like this, how can she be trusted?

Hassan Nemazee sounds like he''s a radical in sheeps clothing. Oh no, watch out for Hassan. He must be a radical fundamentalist with a name like this.

Barack Obama is wearing a red shirt under the garb in the photo. If he were a Muslim, he''d probably be wearing the color of Islam--which is Green.

There are millions of Muslims around the world that have turned their backs to the extremists. Now it our turn and turn our backs to the Bushes and Clintons.

Article says comfortable working across the aisles, how about in the shadows, along with Hillary and McCain? Sure he''ll vote yes to NAFTA, so will the other front runners, they want supernafta!! Looks like it is a good thing Mike Huckabee has been playing guitar, not back door dancing.

Obama plans on voting for the NAFTA expansion next week.
Looks like Obama does not care about U.S. jobs. Better
take a second look at this traitor when voting.

Exactly! He''s supported NAFTA and free trade all along! That''s why I can''t figure out why he would send out a brochure condemning Hillary for it...when it isn''t even true! She''s said early on that we needed to take a step back from it.

The man doesn''t have a lick of truth in him!

Good suggestion, omded.

It''s pitiful that after the extensive "election coverage" we''ve received over the past year (ugh) we''ve heard so little of substance from the media. Sure they''ve covered the horse race, but too much of the rest of the coverage has had the depth of a Brittany Spears interview. We get speeches about "change" and vague promises and flip flop positions and nobody asks the hard questions.

I realize Mike Wallace is older than dirt, but who''s left to ask the tough questions and force these candidates to answer instead of giving another vapid sound bite?

Don''t care about party. Don''t care about looks. Don''t really care how nice the candidates are. Anyone who favors amnesty for illegals or NAFTA or CAFTA is dead in my book, no matter how cute or hopeful they are. This is an election not a beauty contest, but any minute I expect Bert Parks to start singing ...

Good point Pilgrimsway,
The best knights will have lots of dings and scratches in their armor from all the battles they''ve fought in. A knight with shiney armor is like a baseball player with a clean jersey-he''s never slid into a base or dove to catch a ball.

In America today we have this knight in shinny armor coming towards us promising us deliverance! He never fought a battle, He was present when the other knights fought the battles, and keeps His armor very shinny. When He is with the other knights He speaks as one who fought battles, remember now He never did He was only present, that He can conquer lions and dragons and bring this land America to tranquility. The other knights ask Him of His experience and He just points to the fact that He has shinny armor. These other knights see His shinny armor and wonder why this so called knight calls Himself a knight. This knight in shinny armor states %u201CI can bring CHANGE%u201D. The people without experience in fighting the real battles on issues are transfix on His shinny armor that they do not bother with the issue that He has no experience. The people see this knight as their hope. They point to the other knight who is in charge for now and say this is the reason why we need a knight with shinny armor (with no experience) the knight who is there now had no experience either and we want another one like Him!!!!!!!!!!!
